I now know how a Jig bite CAN feel like

Featured Replies

I went out yesterday and threw a 3/16 oz Jig with a plastic craw trailer. I was using the dropshot/jig setup and on only the 2nd cast of the day I got a nice bite. Set the hook and the whole time I was bringing it in was wondering if I caught the fish on the dropshot or the jig. Well I was pleasantly surprised when I finally landed the fish. It had hit the JIG. As usual the fish was a dink but my first on a jig.

and you will never again forget what it feels like. Now that you have some confidence in jigs, you will begin to get proficient at throwing them.

Way to go.  Great job.

Awesome! I love it when you guys post your pics.

Hey fishinaz.............You can thank me later for the little "hint"............Great job!  ;D ;D ;D

Congrats!  Keep on fishining it and you will gain more confidence.  Jigs catch big fish!

how do you fish a jig? do you let it sink and just pull it up and let it fall or what?

Keep on fishing a jig it is, to me, the best big fish catcher there is.  That fish you have is actually pretty rare for a jig bite.  Congrats.  Keep the pics coming.   ;)

Nice article Dave

fishinaz, way to stick with it on the jig.  i find myself using one everytime i go fishing.

keep it up,

Alfred

now you see why I fish a jig most of the time I am out:)

thanks i'll try it. what do think i need for my pond?

size?

color?

and traler?

Fishinaz,

I know how you feel. I too never knew what a bite of a jog felt like. And yesturday I tried the jig/dropshot combo and what happens... I get a double header. So technically I still don't know how it feels to get a bite off a jig. Here is a lousy pic, but it is from a camera phone so what else can you expect. The two little dinky thinks on the line are little ~ 1-2 lb bass.

Start small as I have done in the pics in the article

1/8 to 1/4 ounce is all I toss if the water is under 10 feet deep

This gives them a nice slow fall

also match the trailer color to the jig (again as in the pics)

remember the best color bass can see under 90% of conditions is black

so I would start with a black jig  or black blue  and a black trailer

those zoom swimmin chunk trailers work well on small jigs

post pics of your first jig bass and good luck ..

my finesse jigs are only brown or black   no other colors for me in them and they work well

dwhite and I read the same book!

Grns, blks and browns baby!

I use all finesse jigs, 1/8oz to 1/4 oz and even the 1/4's are only in brands that come through a little light like the mango jig.

I always use a craw trailer, the skinnier the better as the crays in my lake have very skinny pincers.  I like the ones from Bear paws but they are hand poured and very very soft.  They come off way too easily, like a yamamoto senko.

I picked out those molds for John @ bearpaws :)

We tested them a few years back

I took a little ride to NY and we had a great day.

We fished the hudson river, orange lake, then stopped off ar ogange county choppers

John is a Great person and we had a great day on the water..

Tell him "more hardner" and I'll be back on the site buyin 'em up but man,..3, 4 casts, gone. I ain't rich,......hence the name ;)

Sorry for the hi-jack back on topic,....

L-rod has a good point, seeing as how you are on the finessing borderline anyway, don't trim the skirt and try it without the trailer.

Worked on "Dorothy",..the fish in my avatar
