bigger bass or more bass?

Featured Replies

whats better, quality or quantity to you? id have to say more bass. bigger ones are fun but i dont care what size, ill go for any. usually i catch only 1-3 3lb fish or multiple (3+) 1-2 lb'ers, never a combination of both.

Go big or go home. I'm for the big ones all the way.

Catching one 4lber instead of three 2lbers is a better day in MHO. When i catch a avrage bass, its just like hey thats cool, then toss it back in. When i catch a real nice one, it gets your heart pump'n and you all exited, and when you see it slowly swim away after release it is such a good feeling.

Thats why i want a swimbait outfit for my next birthday. NJ state record in Assupink baby! :)

Depends, when fishing with just my main partner, size.  When bringing other people who aren't as hard core about it, I just want them to catch first and then catch a big one once that's accomplished.  Set your goals in stages.

Catch

catch bigger

cath biggest

8-)

Bigger and bigger yet!   For me a day I catch maybe only one bass, say 4lbs and up, is more memorable than a day filled with dinks.

Frankly, I go fishing to catch fish.  While I don't really care about the size, I admit that a big one can make my day a little brighter ;)  However, I'm just happy to be able to be out there, trying to make a fish think that whatever I'm tossing is edible.  Some days that happens, some days it doesn't.

Quality not Quantity! Just being on the water enjoying the opportunity is enough for me. There have been many times that I have been without a bite but have considered them to be some of my favorite outings. ie; good weather, good friends.

I'm after 1 bite & 1 bite only Hawgzilla   8-)

I am to the point where I can catch fish, but I can't seem to ever get the bigger ones. I am kinda tired of catching a buncha 1-3 lbers. I definately would like to catch bigger fish than more fish.

that is how i view fishing. better a bunch of medium size fish than no fish at all.

The bigger the better  :)

If you re-read my reply, it covers the entire spectrum, lol.

I thought we were talking fishing not spectrums?

Depends who im with. With my dad, its a numbers game. I always do something to outfish him, usually by downsizing and whatnot, If its my fishing buddy, i have got to catch the biggest and the most. If im by myself, usually im after size not numbers as much. Its strange that i always catch the most and the biggest fish when im by myself. I tell my fishing buddy and he comes with me the next time and i cant get much of a bite. Btw, my last 3 pbs have been caught when i was by myself.

Gee, wonder what FishChris will say.  ;)

oh yeah      size matters

I agree with Low_Budget , if I have clients I go for numbers or if I take some friends that want to experiance fishing. I can rememeber days on the Susquehanna where I couldn't buy a smallie over 15" but, we might have caught 80 or so and my clients were thrilled. I can remember a few times where I would apologize for  not getting any fours or fives and they would look at me like I was nuts. When I am by myself I go after the big ones. I have more fun watching other people that do not go fishing like I do  catch a ton of fish than if I were catching them myself. Having fun, isn't that the bottom line of what our habit is all about? Yes, I did say habit, lol.

I don't care if I ever catch another bass under 5 lbs, largemouth or smallmouth.

Go big or go home.

I like two kinds of bass: Big Ole Goodun's and Good Ole Biggun's.

Gee, wonder what FishChris will say.  ;)

Thats funny ;D

I'm after the hawgz!....but like LBH said, if I'm with someone new to the sport we just need to get on fish  ;)

Darrin

A friend of mine once said to me that I was like a bird dog.

As soon as you let them out of the truck they have to run around and whiz on a few trees before they can settle down to hunt.

It's funny but true.

As applies to bass fishig, I like to catch a few keepers then get serious.

I would rather get fewer #'s of bigger fish that vice versa.

i would rather catch  ;) 5 big fish than 20 little ones. to me, quality is better than quantity

On tournament day: 5 bass over 14"

Non tournament day: Doesnt really matter.....a bass is a bass.Just looking to get bit.

There is a happy medium for me.  i wouldnt say i intentionally target one or another i try to fish a pattern that will allow me to not be looking for that one big bite but at the same time not catch a million dinks with no chance of size either.

Im generally unlikely to be throwing a 4 inch senko and im also unlikely to be throwing a 12 inch swimbait.  Things like jig n pigs that apeal to the larger of the small fish and still catch big uns are perfect for me.   i dont have it in me to be like the cali guys who get skunked more often than not but when they do hook up its a monster.  i have total respect for them but that is not for me, at least with the regularity it takes to be successful doing that.
