Wet weather gear?

Featured Replies

What wet weather pants/bibs do you recommend under $100? I don't want them insulated as I'd like to be able to use them in all temperatures.

Gander Mountain has a nice set.

I think you can get their H2O set for about $79 a piece ( $160 total)

And their Gortex rain suit is about $200-$250

I got the Gander Mt suit that HPBB talked about.  It was on clearance before and after Christmas and I got mine for only $90.00!  Check it out, I have worn mine several times in the rain already and that thing keeps me dry as a bone.

Give Frogg Toggs a look.  I have several sets that I keep in the vehicle, boat and home.  They are relatively cheap at $60 or under.  BPS and Cabela's both carry them.

I will second a vote for Frog Toggs. They are lightweight, easily packed into a tacklebag without taking up a ton of space, will keep you dry as a bone, they breath well, and aren't very expensive. Smaller sizes retail for $59.99, while larger sizes retail for $69.99, I believe. Be sure you shop around. A lot of major sporting goods stores carry them. Sometimes you can catch them on sale for $49.99 at some places. In fact, I just checked the most recent BPS circular I got in the mail and it had Frog Toggs on sale for $49.95. It doesn't show that on their website though...could be worth looking into.

Third for the Toggs, but go with the Elite. I think I got the name right this time. They have a better material, IMO.

GO WITH GOTEX....FROG TOGGS ARE OK, BUT IF YA SIT OR KNEEL DOWN ONTO THE CARPET OR YOUR SEAT....THE WATER SOAKS THROUGH..  NOT MY IDEA OF COMFORT.

GOTEX...YOU CAN FIND FOR UNDER $100 AT BPS, GM, CABELA'S.  JUST HAVE TO LOOK FOR THEM AND THE SALES.

I got the gander mountain stuff on sale for 115 for the parka and bibs. I have fished in the nastiest coldest windiest stuff you can come up with for oklahoma, and am very very satisfied for the $. I would compare it to the cabelas non-insul. gore tex suit that sells for around $250. i especially like the built in glove part because its not so much neoprene as is some of the other higher dollar stuff. I have had frog toggs cabelas and BPS stuff and this gander mountain suit is far superior to frog toggs in durability and very comparable to the BPS and Cabelas suits that are much more expensive. I saw a post on this forum a little while back kind of doggin' on this gander mountain suit, but all I have to say is good about it. Its no 100MPH BPS suit, but for someone who doesnt make a living fishing in the rain, its darn good enough especially for the price right now.

if you don't need the warmth i'd try frogg toggs..i use them in the summer and they keep me dry....and they are very light weight..

It just so happaens that I began a BPS search for a rain suit this morning.  BPS, to their great credit, publishes consumer reviews of the products they sell.  Having heard a few good things about the Frogg Toggs I started there.  To my surprise, some of the FT products received only an average appraisal, while their Pro Signature Series received terrible reviews.  The BPS labled products also received only so-so reviews.  On the other hand,  the Red Heds and the Colombia products in the same price range received much better reviews.  I have not yet researched Gandar Mountain.

I lucked into my rainsuit while fishing a tourney at lake of the ozarks. The local Wal-Mart there carries a FLW suit with a great jacket and bibs identical to what the FLW pros wear. I only paid $90 for the whole suit and I love it the coat espically. It is very warm in cold conditions and very comfortable in the heat. It has alot of pockets for storage and I have washed it several times without having to reactivate its rain proof abilities. This suit was hands down better than any BPS suit for half the money.

Every once in a while you can find them on Ebay if your Wal-Mart doesn't carry them. I absolutely love it. Even though I'm more of a B.A.S.S. fan

Froggtogs by far! I have tryed Gortex, Bass Pro, Trash bags ETC. I run the rivers alot I'am talking sometimes 180 mile round trip and they will keep you as dry as the $500.00 outfit I have. 8-)

Never worn any Frogg Toggs, but have seen a lot of people wearing them. So I guess that they must be pretty good for the price. I had to replace my older rainsuit two years ago and went with the BPS Goretex jacket and bibs. They were real pricey, but anything with Goretex material is. These will keep your butt and knees dry all day long.

I have mixed feelings about Frogg Toggs.  I bought them because they were cheap and lightweight.

It's true, you can wear them on warm days without being uncomfortable.

I have the pro model.  I like the material very much.  It will keep you completely dry.

On the down side, the accesories are to cheap to be of much use.  The adjustment clips on the bibs keep slipping, so I ended up just tying knots to make them fit right (redneck tailoring) ;D

When this came up a few weeks ago I suggested Cabela's Guidewear and it is still on sale. This is

the best wet weather gear on the market and the best investment in fishing related equipment I have ever made. 100% waterproof, light and durable.

I use all North Face gear.  I have a "continued excellence" sponsorship with them from the skiing days but would absolutely buy their stuff even if I didn't.  Aside from the very best materials, the cuts and way the clothing is fitted is second to none.  Construction and functionality, combined with the very best materials. Not cheap but VERY worth it.

Complete opposite of frog toggs.  Those things are like wearing a big billowy bag made of car cover material.  Nothing "fitted" about them.  I think they are great as a backup that you can keep on the boat 24/7 scruched up in a compartment, but other than that, not for me.

My second choice would be the cabela's guidewear, hands down.

If you're interested in Frogg Toggs, Seirra Trading Post has them on sale right now for 30 bucks. I've had some for three years and had no problems with them. Got caught last year in early august on Lake of the Woods, about 4 miles out in a hard rain. Made it back in dry, except for the feet. Good stuff for the price. Not very well fitted, but then again, this ain't no fashion show.

Since my dad works for Gore and I still can't afford it even with an employ discount I went to Walmart and bought the FLW jacket and bibs. I don't remember the exact price but for both of them it was under a $100
