Who had one of these ?

http://www.popularmechanics.com/outdoors/adventures/1277791.html?page=1

I remember when they came out they were supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread.

I probably would have bought one if I wasn't so broke back then :;)

Yum Plastics especially the Yum buzzfrog.  Bought a bunch to take to a private lake I was invited to and they don't work worth a d**n.  The legs fold up and you slide the bait over the water instead of buzzing it.

I'm surprised the SK King Shad was mentioned, I've caught some nice 4 & 5lbers on this bait along with a 39" Northern Pike.

I agree, the King Shad is one of the best big fish producers I have used in a long time.  Have caught dozens of 5 and 6 lb Smallmouths and Largemouths, plus some huge Northerns in the teen class with these baits.

I got $150 in BPS gift cards for xmas/ my birthday and picked up one of these king shads among other things.  I have to say when I got it home and opened it I was surprised with how cheap it felt.  I still haven't had the opportunity to throw it, but I must say I am almost scared too.

Fat Ika's

Ditto on the Ikas!

I bought 3 bags of those things, and after a half-dozen attempts, I haven't caught squat.  Not even one bite.

The fish were there too.  After 1+ hours (per trip) of unproductive fishing, switching back to a senko put fish in the boat.

I know that other people on bassresource like the Ika, but I'm really starting to think that they suck.

Oh yeah, I tried them backwards & forwards.  No difference in the bite.

Maybe I'll cut one in half (length wise) and see if a "leech Ika" works any better.   :-?

lots of dumb purchases

1) flippin' stick that I don't use (anyone need one)

2) chatterbaits - haven't sniffed a fish

3) rapala twitchin' rap

Rapala DT's when they first came out ( lip problem that we all know about), however the newer ones are awesome!

Banjo Minnow- caught fish, just not any size

Berkley Vanish- it was good until other companies came out with fluoros and i found p-line 100% fluoro.

Chatterbaits- u either love em or hate em. i hate em.

I am surprised some of you don't like storm swimbaits.  THey are the best CHEAP Swimbait out there!! PB 5 fish limit: 22lbs 5oz all on the storm swimshads!

Banjo Minnows - caught a small smallie and northern pike with the entire set.

Chatter bait - fish refuse to even look at it

I got the Banjo minnows for my birthday about 10 years ago.  I never caught a fish on them and didn't like how they require such a special rig.

I am just beginning to build my tackle collection and with the awesome information on this site I have been able to stay away from most dumb purchases.

The only other thing I feel like I can add is a chatterbait but I really haven't given it its fair due.

... I look in my fishing closet at 3 big full tackle boxes  and wonder how in the world I'll ever pick the worst/dumbest purchase  ...

and the worst part is CRANKBAITS !  ..

I must have 100 that I've never caught a fish on, and probably never threw em  once or twice  ..

But, I do have a big selection and ever once in awhile, I get one out of my " retirement box" and give a reprieve or a 2'nd. try. ;D

RIDICULOUS!

Fish the Fat Ika EXACTLY where you would fish a Senko and

EXACTLY the same way. This bait is simply a different profile

with different action. Sometimes the fish prefer the Fat Ika to the

Senko, sometimes it's the other way around.

Though I'm fond of the Lucky Craft brand I was disapointed in the Live Pointer, fortuneately I only bought one.

Yep, I took "dumb" to a new level. I never have had any luck with

the Live Pointer so I bought two more when I found them on sale!

Man, I have never fished them and they'll probably never get wet.

:D

I actually did pretty well with the Dancin Eel, big fish too. I caught some on that old craw also but the biggest problem with that one is the treble hook snagged when you kept on the bottom where it needed to be. I am not doing as well on the Ika as I think I should but I am going to keep working on it. I guess my biggest failure has been the Rat l Trap, they just don't work for me, I do ok on other lipless baits so I can't figure it out. Sometimes I think we just don't get it right and it is not always the lures problem. But when buying fishing tackle I guess we have to remember the old point of law, buyer beware, because there is a lot of junk on the market.

I have a couple packs that I tried last year with no luck.  Senkos worked great in the same spots.  Maybe it's not the bait, but I did quickly lose confidence in it.  I'll give another go of it this year.

::) ::)  Sorry Kent. Not doubting your credibility at all.I just think the Ika is one of those baits that won't work in all kinds of water or areas of the country.

I've pitched it in cover, used on a c-rig,rigged front, back, sideways, over humps, drops,up,down, across, parallel, fast, slow, twitch, deadstick, lift, drop with very limited success.Gave it a fair chance.I could join the crowd that says they can't catch a cold on that thing.

That being said I don't think I made a "dumb" purchase (4 times). It looks fantastic in the water. It just doesn't jive with me. :D
