I caught a nice bass the other day out of this half acre pond I fish with a chatterbait. Well I guess I almost caught him. I got him to the last 5 inches of water and he gave it one more fight, pullin my knot out. I could clearly see I hooked is lip. What would you guys think the success rate of him surviving. I caught a 4lb the week before and I know this one was way bigger and would hate to see him go.

if its hooked on the lip im sure he'll shake it off sometime soon. even if he doesnt, i dont think a chatterbait on the lip will interfre with daily activities too much. i think he will be fine.

I once caught a smaller bass (15in-16in) on a plastic worm that had a rattle trap stuck in his jaw..... I got the to catch the bass, and he got the lure removed! I think your bass will be ok, considering it was one hook in the jaw.

That's funny you say that because just last weekend, I had the same thing happen except it was a spinnerbait.  I'm sure the fish will shake it at some point...  I wonder what the hell they think about it though?  

Last time I was at my local Bass Pro Shop, there was a largemouth in the aquarium that had jerkbait hanging from its lip. (Somebody demo-ing a lure?) I watched it for a few minutes, and it acted no differently than the rest of the fish in there.

The fish should be fine, & able to work that chatterbait out.

Knot pulled out or the line broke? Knots should never pull out, unless tied incorrectly, what knot do use use?

If the bass was hooked in the mouth, not the throat or gills, the fish should be able to shake out the lure and be OK.

Don't worry he will shake tha bait. I have hooked bass that had lure in their mouth's before and they were fine. I wouldn't even loose any sleep over it.

On two occasions I have caught a fish with a lure and one with a hooks in it and they looked healthy.  In both cases I was able to remove the hook and the lure without hurting the fish.
