how do you fish standing timber?

Featured Replies

just curious on how everyone fishes standing timber and your techniques? Ive had success in 4 to 10ft range but struggle when fishing DEEP standing timber.

The most important factor is to always key on the shaded side.

Look for points formed by the trees, isolated trees, tree lines, creek channels, clusters of 3 or more trees close together.

I've never encountered trees deeper than 12'.

for shallow timber my new technique is a shaky head with a hula grub so it falls really slow, do a couple hops and reel it in and recast.

Vertical with a jig, jigging spoon, and plastics of your choice. Jigging spoons are deadly in the winter. Just drop them down the sides of the larger trees.

IMO plastics.and if they dont work, IF possible, bounce things off the stumps. to try to get reaction strikes. i will pick timber to pieces with about 3 or 4 different things.

id stick with this answer, catt has always done me right.
