Is it common?

I have,and was for about 30 seconds. But (most)lures are easily replaced.

Not here. I have no favorite lures. The one that covers the depth and type of cover the best is the one I will use. I have lures that I have more confidence in than others, but no favorites.

always have more than one, problem solved!  I'll often buy one to try it, and if I like it I immediately buy a few more, this way you never have to worry about running out.

Yup, but the part that gets me bummed isn't the cost, it's the fact that there's a fish with a lure stuck in her face now.

To a fish, never, but don 't ask me how many I 've lost to trees, stumps, bushes, rocks and bullrushes.

The only time I got really bummed about losing a fishing lure was when I was 15 with my dad & granddad.  Long story short, all three of us were fishing out of a 14' Alumacraft boat @ Itasca State Park in northern Minnesota.  I caught a 41" musky & when I got him in the boat he started flopping around & knocked my granddads tackle box into the water.  All the lures that were floaters, well, floated.  All the lures that were not sank to the bottom.  A lot of non replaceable lures sunk the the bottom of Elk Lake in Itasca that day.  Many which belonged to my granddads dad.  Even though my granddad could care less about losing the lure, because he got to see me catch my biggest musky that day, I still felt horrible.  That was our last fishing trip as father, son, grandson.  So yes I have felt horrible about losing a lure to a fish.  Stupid musky.  

In the lakes i fish if you are afraid to lose a lure than you might as well pack it up. Every inch of them is covered in some kind of slop. I found a school of bass busting shad out of the water about a month ago on one of my lakes. I tossed a slow sinking BBZ-1 Shad at them and proceeded to catch one one almost every cast. My excitement over the situation along with not wanting to miss a second led me to not retie my lure. Well, after about 16 fish a good sized one hit and broke me off. A $22 lure gone just like that. I have reward signs at the dock for anyone who can catch that sucker and get my lure back, LOL!!!!             ;D

x2 I do have lures that would hurt to lose but its more due to money. I tend to chuck lures in some ify places so I lose alot of them, especially jigs  ;D

There is another bass forum that I visit from time to time.  The members commonly use extremely high end equipment.  Custom rods and reels, hand made baits and so on.

It can be really amusing to me sometimes reading about how guys won't fish their expensive lures because they are afraid of losing them.

kind of like buying an umbrella that your afraid to get wet.

ive been know to go swimming for crank baits. if the waters right i have no problem getting wet for a $10 bait.

I've climbed my fair amount of trees up to the branches to get my lure back. ;D

i don't think i've ever lost a lure to a fish... usually i lose them to snags. it sucks but it happens.

I use to lose numerous baits. However, I have trained myself to get those lures back. I have taught myself how to tear and rip lures from where they are. I have not lost a lure in a year. When you get hung up, think logically. Don't just give up. It may take some time but you wont lose your lure.

Physics have finally paid off. I recommend pulling the line in the direction it got stuck. Also, tighten and slack your line. You will eventually pull your bait free. Just cant give up. I have been known to rip large portions of trees out.
