PIFs (pay it forward) / Bombs

Featured Replies

couldnt find the other thread , but i think it should seriously be considered. its very common on cigar forums and works great there. so i dont see why it wouldnt on a fishing forum.

basically , a moderator keeps a rolodex with the members who want to participate addresses. one member sees another who hasnt tried a certain lure/plastic that they can spare , and send it their way. this can go unannounced (bomb), or just let the receiving member know. either way. then , depending on how it was received , that member can send something else to another member and it just goes on from there.

now obviously , we would need to keep this between reputable members (maybe members above a certain post count?) so that someone else can enjoy what they have to offer. also , maybe keep the cost around $10-15 so people dont try to 'up' the next guy unless it was a bomb. then thats up to the recipient to decide what they want to do.

it may sound confusing at first , but it is a very simple way for people to try new things without picking up a whole package and not like them. or they can simply pass along that lure to the next guy.

would there be any interest in this , or am i way ahead of myself? :)?

Nope.  :)

You're assuming that post count determines if a member is reputable... ::)

im not assuming anything.    ::)

just a thought of a way to determine is a member is reputable or not.

Well personally, I wouldn't trust that method. We have guys who have very high post counts who haven't been here more than 6 months. We also have guys who have been here a long time and don't have many posts. We also have guys who have both been here a long time, have a lot of posts, and are flakes.

It's a good idea but I think a great deal of paying it forward already goes on.

i know it does. but it would be nice to randomly send something to someone without them knowing. i know i like when the usps/fedex/ups guy drops something off at my house.

it was just a thought.

I didn't "qualify" on the last one because of post count. I think there are better ways of doing it. I could get on here and reply every time a post comes up, just to get my count up, but that's not me.

My word is my oath to do what I say I'm gonna do. If I tell you I'm gonna do something, then it will be done. I know all people aren't like this and it makes it tough on the honest ones.

Another way would be to have a cap of $10 and only send 1 item. If someone didn't uphold their part, make note of it. Then, you'd only be out $10. If that was successful, then you could do another one with more items and send it to the reputable people that was on first list.

Scott.

ps, Got me another post!!!

These things never work out in the long run.  if you really want to "pay it forward," take a kid fishing, and give him a bag of Senkos and some hooks.

Well guys, just to be clear, BassResource.com will NOT

sponsor this program, you are on your own. That means

those deciding to participate are responsible for resolving

disputes and we are NOT going to allow them to be aired

on the boards.

I see too many issues to even count, wouldn't even think about trying this.

it is too bad some people wont live up to their word.  :(

when i was on clubstogie (or whatever it is now) they have had their PIF thing going on for what seemed like forever without any major problems. shoot , i remember receiving over $30 in cigars in one package without notice. THAT was nice. :sigh: oh well , it was worth a shot.

thanks for being clear with your post , kent.  :)

I think it would work with a small group of people. No more than 15 or so. I'm no long time poster, but I can say with the most confidence that the members Muddy, sharkbite, ghoti and steezy would "pay it forward" and know that from personal experiences with them. Another way to tell if possible is check the flea market section, if a guy is going to ship stuff out within a reasonable time frame, they'd more than likely go along the rules to this. I'm down.

I'm the one who posted on this originally. We'll be starting Lure Pass #1 in the next few weeks, and I hope that it gets better reviews than this thread has. I was a member of cigarpass for years and I agree with you that in general it worked very well. Since you're talking about bombs then if somebody doesn't elect to bomb somebody else then oh well - it was intended as a gift anyway. A bomb by definition is to be dropped on somebody without them knowing it - with no expectation of retaliation or paying it forward.

Now as for passes (pif) whatever then yeah I can see where folks get a little nervous, and for good reason. There again sometimes people will get screwed and that's unfortunate. I have confidence (I hope not in naivety) that this will be a successful pass. To those who didn't get in on it, if this goes well and there is interest in doing it again then I will with preference to those who didn't get in on it the first go-round (bigmoney, etc). Then again nothing states that I'm the pre-ordained pass guru! If you want to start one then go for it. If you have technical questions let me know. I feel confident that this is the best place around for bass aficionados to enjoy fellowship. Heck if we couldn't trust each other then what's the point in all of us driving to meet once a year for the roadtrip? Again RW is right that this is not the mods problem if this pass doesn't go well. I'll be the one who eats the loss.

yes , thats the thread i was referring to.

but instead of just hard baits , it could be from jigs , to plastics , to whatever the sender wants to send someone but only up to the allowed cost limit unless its a bomb.

ah , well im not stressing it. i have received something from a member on this forum and was told just to pay it forward. i just thought it would be nice for people just getting into the sport to give some new things a try.

Then sling it on out there. Unless they specifically state they don't want to be mentioned I'd make a little fuss over their generosity. Remember that's how it was on the cigar forums. It really acted to spark interest in the "sport"

well the thing is on those forums , all the members were of age and a bit more mature. so when someone mentioned they got bombed by another member , no one messaged them asking for handouts. im not saying that would be the case here , but it is a possibility and id rather avoid that by not putting anyones name out there unless i was told i can.

Yeah I guess that was the way we did it now that I think about it. You mentioned you got bombed by a generous soul and didn't mention their name unless they ok'd it

Ahh... I remember not that long ago when you guys didn't have to protect BR with disclosures constantly... :-/ So sad...

Some idiot even got pizzed at the soldier rod "program". What a loser, thanks for not telling me who that was because I do know for a fact that I would have gotten banned from the site for the message I would have sent him.

It's nice to see that the spirit of giving is alive and well, even if a few tools try to spoil the joy.

Rant over.

Pay it forward lives here big time. Things like this should never be organized and done from the heart, expecting nothing in return. Yea we get burned a few times, but those guys just are slugs no matter what. The act is in the giving  ; there are certain members here who when we see a guy in need, contact each other in the back round and we get it done, I have seen it happen here and its always the same fellas; We do not have to be like other forums. in fact that is what keeps me here we ARE NOT LIKE OTHER FORUMS

Then why don't the 2 of you just light up and go to the cigar forum??? ;D

You have got to be kidding....

I suppose when you hit 20,000 members you're going to have some real pieces of work in the bunch.

It's been at least a couple years ago but there was a certain member, pleading a handicap and wanting to start tournament fishing, that got paid forward big time from quite a few members here.

That deal left a bad taste in some mouths for awhile.
