With all the different baits on the market, I'm surprised the manufactures don't have "how to use" info available, or is it I don't know where to look.

I have been away from fishing for some years and the new baits and terminology is bewildering.

Welcome back to fishing. Check out the articles on the site. They cover topics from the most basic all the way up. Experimentation by anglers often results in a bait being fished or rigged in ways the manufacturer never thought of. Post specific questions when you're ready and you'll get lots of thoughtful replies. Enjoy the forum and good luck!

I completely agree with you. That would help a lot. I guess the fun part of plastics is the fact that you have to be creative when fishing. Represents some individuality. It would be a boring world if everyone fished baits the same. You probably wouldn't have that much of a variety of baits and not that  many "out there" baits like brush hogs.

My man, no "how to" is going to bring you success, fishing is an art, it depends greatly on the ways and forms an individual makes use of hi/hers tools and most of the fishing rigs and techniques were and are created by the people with the "what if ?" mentality, it 's a matter of creativity not a matter of following instructions like if it was a manual.

Also, the same lure and presentation may not work on a different lake. The key is to figure out what the bass want. That's what keeps it interesting.  

The wacky rig is a perfect example. That was allegedly 'invented' by an inexperienced fisherman on a guided fishing trip.

Always think beyond the boundaries.

I'm not talking about a 'how to' manual. I look at a whole wall of plugs that are different shapes and colors and think what are these intended for.

Something that would tell me or group them into; Deep running, middle level, sinking, floating, imitation of what?, intended for what, etc.

They all must have a sweet spot or design target of operation. From that point of depth, speed or motion a fisherman could add variations and changes in tecnique to suit local conditions and styles.

This site is an excellant place to find answers. Some manufactures will have instructions on their websites, I would start there first. Wlecome back to the fishing world.
