cathing your limit

Featured Replies

Honestly, how often do you catch your limit when you go on a fishing trip?

I just started bass fishing 2 years ago, so im far from a pro. for me, id estimate around 20% of the time....

What limit ? I C/R, so therefore, I have no limit  :)

same here, I'd only be concerned with catching a limit in a tournament, other than that, it goes back.

I started 40 years ago and am very far from a pro. As to how often, my answer is not often enough. There are some waters I fish that at certain times 5+ is expected and other times and places I feel lucky to avoid my little friend:

A heck of a lot more often since I joined this site, that's for sure!

Definitely depends on where you are at and the time of year.  I'm in Illinois and on certain waters a limit is expected.  On the Kaskaskia and Ohio rivers you have a 12 inch limit and you can usually get it.   You may have a 5lb limit, but it is a limit.  I run a circuit on the Kaskaskia River and I think 75% or better weighed in limits during the 5 tournaments.  I had one tournament that my partner and I caught 29 keepers, and another where we had only 2.

Not a problem at all on most lakes or most seasons to catch at least 5 bass that go 12", most often quite a few more than that.

The only real problem is that the size limit here in Michigan is 14".  ;D  Then, I fit right in with most of the others here where the lake/season can make a difference.

Cool friend you got there Marty, he must have a lot of relatives hanging around a small lake I fish regularilly cuz I meet them oftenly when I go there, but I take it with Karate Kid philosophy: man that can catch fly with chop sticks can accomplish anything  ;).

Actually when I 'm about to go on a trip I ask myself: " you wanna catch feesh or you want to catch a lesson of humilty ? " more often than not I prefer to go and catch me some humilty, that way when I go somewhere else I feel like Superman.

It depends on where I am fishing and how I am catching them. Some places better than others.

I almost always get a limit of bass when I go out and I preach and practice catch and release of all fish, especially bass. I fish at least twice a week from mid April to the end of November. Got into some giant smallies yesterday. My five biggest went a touch over 23lbs and my dad's best five went almost 22lbs.

I don't think I have ever caught five keeper bass in one outing.  Maybe four one time.  After this years start I am happy catching dinks right now.  Hopefully it will pick up soon.  Even though I am not catching alot right now I feel I am getting the hang of this local lake.  I did well last summer and fall, just having a hard time getting started this spring.

i usully catch atleast 5 fish in a day outing, today i put 16 in the boat nothing huge 2 to 4 pounds, good scrappers. now if im fishing a tourney it seems 10 times harder to catch a limit lol
