I guess he didn't catch anything in 15 years, or the Zombies got him...

What is the proper way to set the hook when using Jigs with the wire weedguards??

I only got 2 bites but I pulled the jig out of the Bass twice in a row... I saw the Bass bite and watched as he took it and turned around. I felt some weight on the rod so I snapped the rod up. The Jig came flying right at me.

I can't seem to get the hook out from the wire. Should I cut the wire a bit?? I'm using a 6'6 MH/F rod so I don't think it's a power problem...

Setting the hook on a fish that you see and on a fish that you feel are two completely different things.  I also fish very clear water with a jig and see more than 50% of the strikes.  Most of the time I never feel the fish bite.  I don't wait.  I strike when the fish is head down.  To feel the strike you have to wait until the fish turns and goes back under cover.  That's what happens in dirty water when you don't see the fish.

Like it was said, if you are using wire weedguards, these are difficult to use and tune.  Cutting the wire will only make it stiffer.  I would switch over to a fiber weedguard (or no weedguard in open water).  I would also choose a jig with a longer thinner hook.  A heavier short hook is nice for heavy weeds or brush but is harder to set.  I also like a jig with a head the raises the hook from the bottom.

Grey beard thread 2006!

Didn’t take the time to read this thread, from the OP’s ? It’s obvious he was bed fishing.

Glenn made a great video a couple of years ago about hooking fish with jigs.  Give it a search on YouTube or if @Glenn can provide a quick link. Once you get the technique down, you won’t miss much.
