Your fishing flaws

Featured Replies

Since I bought a boat and fish 12 rods I have lost my patience for senko fishing. I used to bank fish and have infinite patience for this bait. Now with everything I bring I will cast 10-15 times then try something else. That seems to be my most obvious flaw. Loosing patience with slow plastics in general. what are you guys weak points or flaws in your fishing?

Interesting point. I prefer fishing jigs and soft

plastics slooooooow, but that's not possible

with most of the guys I fish with. I simply adjust

and use other presentations. The upside is using

a lot of hardbaits that don't see any action from the bank!

For sure patience is my biggest flaw.

Being afraid to lose gear by casting into an iffy situation is probably my other one.

Some of the biggest ones I landed last year by ripping through vegetation or throwing dangerously close to structure.

Does your structure bite or something?  ;D

That is a great point

LOL - Only when I cast too hard and my lure becomes part of the structure. :)

I probably stay in one place too long. I'm trying to break the habit of spot sitting, even if I'm not getting bit. I think Rick Clunn refers to it as "Ego vs. Intuition."

What do you mean by hard baits you cant fish from the bank? the only one i have tried i have not had success with so far is a jerk bait but i think that is just cause i am not sure how to fish it properly. Which hard baits are useless from the shore. Since i am shore bound for the time being i want to know what baits to avoid when the monkey gets on my back.

i dont think he was saying that hard baits are impossible to fish from shore, but that some shores are impossible to fish hardbaits from.  A cause would be excess timber, weeds, junk, brush hanging out 10 feet from the bait, basically all the things that will snag a trable hook instantly and refuse to let go.

My biggest flaw is not having enough time on the water.

STINKING JOBS !!!!

Even when I am on the water there is still not enough time on the water !!!

actually, i rarely if ever get a bite fishing a senko slowly by twitching it letting it sit, twitching it a couple more times, etc. I usually just crank them in and lift up on my rod and let them fall back down some while doing so, the bass love it that way and its real easy for me to feel the fish hit it.

but with that said one of my biggest flaws may be fishing too fast a lot of times

I would have to say that my biggest flaw is having zero faith in lures that don't look like they would catch fish.  If they look cheap, or look different than what I am used to, I don't bother looking twice, I move on.  I wont pick anything out of the dollar bin unless it is something I have tried before and had sucess with.   I'm not sure why I am so lure arrogant, but that's the way I am, its a shame I know.   Funny part is, 2-3 of my favorite lures are bargain bin lures that I first started out with that most told me would never work  :D

Have you tried using it with a drop shot and just lowering and raising your rod tip ? ( not picking the weight up off of the bottom ) ;)

My largest flaws are having patience in the technique I'm using at a specific time.  If I don't get hit, I start questioning myself.  When that happens, I'll become a serious lure changer.  Using three rods on the boat, four at most means I spend a lot of time re-rigging.  Jigs and me also just do not go together.

Fishing jigs. Hands down. The person who said you can't fish a jig wrong has never been in the back of my boat.  ;D

I too have this problem. I drew 63 out of 80 in a tourney so just about every plan A,B,C spot was taken. I went to a place where I knew I could a least pull a limit. Between me and my father we caught over 40 keepers from this spot and was culling withing 45 minutes. I didn't get to fish this lake prior to the tourney and learned after it was all said and done there were some early spawners. I stayed on that spot problably 3 hours too long. I then went to my other areas only to find boats in every pocket I wanted to fish. I really shoulda left much earlier and taken my chances following boats around my primary spots cleaning up what they missed. But I just had some sort of brain malfunction hoping that spot would eventually produce bigger fish as I have pulled a 14lb. bag from there. Oh well chalk it up to stubbornness and move on. It was a fun day fishing but not for a tournament!

if im not catching fish on the bait im using i constantly want to change, unless im throwing my finesse worm i loose confidence quickly in baits

i can't cast a bait caster left handed.  it drives me nuts because i can't hit some spots as well as i want.  i really want to be able to pitch with out switching hands every time, but my left hand and wrist just aren't that coordinated.  eh, irks me thinking about it.

...having confindence in my ability to put myself around fish.  If I know I'm around fish I can be very patient but most of the time I'm not catching anything and I start working baits too fast trying to cover water. Sometimes I just dont have any idea where fish are or even where they "supposed" to be and that's not good for my confidence.

Winter fishing. When there's a slight cold wind in the winter and we are drop shotting on new melones and it's really slow i will sometimes lay down my rod and take a nap

For me it would have to be crankbaits! :'(

my biggest flaw is now owning a boat.

my second biggest flaw is having trouble "feeling" the bottom. i have a touch time telling rocks from stumps and sand and mud. all feels the same to me. i have finally distiguished a bite though!
