Semi-new fisherman here also new to the board.   I'm from NC and have fished on and off my whole life.   I'm just now really getting into it though.   trying to learn all i can from magazines and the internet AND just by fishing every chance I get.   I'm a bank fisherman **boats are freakin EXPENSIVE**  Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Welcome man! You don't need a 21' bass boat with a 300hp motor to catch fish. If I were you, I'd invest in a jon boat. Tracker has a 10 footer for $500.  Then I'd throw a 30lb thrust trolling motor on there.  It'll push ya along just fine. Bank fishing is aight, but once you fish from a boat you'll never turn back!

You do not need a Triton or a Ranger.  A jon boat or even a little Tracker will do the trick.  It all depends on how much you want to spend and what types of water you fish (lake, river pond, etc.).

Half the fun is in the buying of the boat.

As Dean already mentioned, once you fish from a boat, you most likely will want your own even if it's a small one/two man jon boat powered by a trolling motor. You CAN catch as many and as large of a fish from the shore. In fact, there are many who have caught their PB from the shoreline. Boats just make accessing great, hard to get to from the shore, spots easier to get to. Again, WELCOME to BR!!!

Welcome! I'm in Raleigh...if you're ever in the neighborhood look me up and we'll go...there are plenty of parks around here where you can rent a jon-boat. As for advice...my best tip this time of year is to buy a couple bags of Zoom Mag Lizards (Junebug) and some strong line!

 to the forum.  I said the same thing about boats being to expensive,  One month later I found a deal on a Lowe 16 foot V-Hull and bought it, this was the best purchase I ever made.

My advice for you is to fish a lot of ponds and small rivers. Public or private (if you get permission). You do not need a boat for ponds because most of them you can cast anywhere in the lake from places on the bank, and get a pair of waders for the rivers. Works for me

i haven't found a pond to fish           wish i could though
