Ok if this works this is the picture of the smallmouths that me and a couple of buddies caught. I've been trying to post this all day and BD finally hooked me up!

The black was the only odd ball that day and weighed 5lbs. The 4 biggest smallies were between 3 and 5 1/2 pounds. The 2 little ones were about a 1 1/2 pounds a piece. Not bad for an hour of evening fishing!

Skeeter6598, If you want to catch a 10 lb smallmouth on Texoma one day, you need to release the big girls. We don't kept bronzebacks.

Yeah I forgot to mention that ALL the fish in these pictures were caught and released! We kept them in the livewell because we didn't have a camera with us but as soon as the pics were taken they were released! I meant to mention that in the first post! I've never kept a smallie excpet for when I was a little bitty kid!

That one on tef left is a funny looking smallie!  Nice catches...

Yeah it was an awesome evening. I've caught bigger fish, both Largemouth, and smallmouths but not like this at the same time. Pretty fun for a last minute decision to wet a hook!

Are bronzebacks a certain type strain of bass?

I've never seen one around here.

Bronzeback is another name for Smallmouth Bass.

The smallmouths don't look like that here, so those must be a strain, right?

I don't know if they are a different strain but the are often called "Bronzebacks" because they are sometimes a Bronze color.

"Bronzeback" is slang for "Smallmouth" - not a breed or strain of fish.

How come then those small mouths look different than some small mouths here?

I got the impression somewhere that bronzebacks are like a KY or TN strain...not sure why, but I know our small mouths here, don't look bronze at all.

Sounds like you're talking about the Kentucky Spotted Bass - essentially a hybrid between largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Water color, lake structure, food and a hundred other things can make the same fish come out looking different in different waters.  Bronzeback is just another word for smallies.  Speaking of which, those are some nice looking smallies.  Were those caught on Texoma???  Thats cool.  I get to fish Texoma a few times a year....awesome lake.  I've got a 5 out of there (smallie) but nothing bigger than that.  Where did you get em?  I have my best luck for smallies around the dam and over near Sunset.  Nice work though.

I know you know this, but I didn't want there to be any confusion.  The spotted bass is NOT a hybrid of a largemouth and a smallmouth.  However, many of their characteristics are intermediate between largemouths and smallmouths.  They are a distinct species, though.

The smiley face is a result of 3 question marks together.  Eliminate one and it will go away.

These fish were caught up by the railrod bridge near Willow Springs. Out on that main lake rock bank there on the east end of the bridge. The first was caught directly under the bridge and from there back to the north. That rock bank is ALWAYS good for smallies. All the way back into Sandpoint with all the docks.

Sunset is a really good smallmouth spot on Texoma. From the dam all the way to Grandpappy is good along those rock bluffs. The bank running from Solider Creek over to Caney Creek is a really good smallmouth hole!

BTW a 5 pound smallie on Texoma is an awesome catch anyday!

Next time you're here at Texoma let me know before hand and I'll give you a fishing report or we'll schedule it and we'll go out and I'll show you some good smallmouth spots!

Shoot skeeter, thats sounds like a great deal.  I'm planning on going up a couple times in April so I'll let you know before I come up.  I love the spring fishing up there.  Its such a big lake though, I normally stick to the areas I'm more familiar with.  So it would be nice to learn a little more of the lake.  Thanks.

My dad know's all of the six old geezers! My dad is a guide here on the lake. He guides for stripers and catfish but when he first started he guided for bass also.

Yeah Texoma is a big lake and to me one of the hardest lakes to pattern fish. May just be because it's my home lake and I sometimes get stuck on my go to spots even when they aren't producing.
