crankbaits

Featured Replies

What crankbaits do you all use for smallies?color?size?I'm looking to add to my collection for this up coming season!

I throw bandit 100 series usually white around general structure, and a storm thundercraw in phantom chartreuse around shallow rock piles.  That is when I am not throwing soft plastics.

well generally the same cranks i'll use for largies. except the smallmouth are usually in clearer water so ill go with natural colors like the ghost minnow. or a bandit 200 in louisianna shad or crawfish color.

Check out thr Rapala Jointed Shad Raps!! I use the JSR-4's (shallow) and JSR-7's (deep) I have used every color and have had alot of luck with them.

Same here! Rapala Jointed Shad Raps have caught me countless numbers of trophy smallmouths. I use the 2 inch, red crawdad colored version (dives about 8 feet). Just cast it parallel to structure, crank it down, and because it suspends, reel in with a twitch pause retrieve.

My opinion: Rapala makes some of the truest running and effective crankbaits on the market. ;D :D ;D

I like norman deep little n's - they seem to be good cranks for smallies in the fall and spring.

That's easy to answer:  All of them!!!!   I've caught smallies on all kinds of cranks---Bandits, Bomber A's, Lucky Craft, Rapalas, Normans.  My preference is the Bandits though!! ;)

Welcome aboard!

8-)

1/4 ounce Speed Traps, Bomber 1/2 ounce Fat Free Shad and Norman DLN are my favorites along with some hard to find Japanese cranks that are no longer in production  :'(

Speed traps I got 4 of them i dont throw that often what color do you prefer?

I fish river smallies and they prefer a crayfish pattern most of the time.  I'll usually throw small to medium diving cranks and lipsless cranks Rapalas.

My personal favorite Smallmouth crankbaits are a Bomber 4A in any of the crawfish patterns and a chrome black back Rattletrap when they are on the flats feeding.

Cant go wrong with a crayfish color bomber, hitting rocks on the bottom really triggers the strikes.

I love bouncing a crawfish colored wiggle wart off the rocks and a silver shad rap in and around cabbage.

Bomber Model A or Fat As in Silver Shad, Firetiger or Dark Brown Craw

little john crankbait pb&J color

Rattle trap red craw

nothing like it ;D

The Rapala x-rap shad was a great smallie crank for me last year.

I second this with a BIG 2!!!

I also will throw crawdad pattern year round, but more so in the fall and the spring. I find that Rebel Wee R's and Deep Wee R's also work well. The Bandit 100's are in among my top cranks also.

Good luck!
