G. Loomis Imx Or Shimano Ci4F

Featured Replies

I have a budget of around $300.00-$350.00 so getting both a Loomis and a top notch reel arent really feasible atm.

So should i spend more on the rod or reel for now? I plan on replacing the lesser piece when I have more money.

I am mostly between G Loomis GL2 GL3 IMX and Shimano Sustain CI4F. Rod will most likely be 6' 6'6 Light spinning.

Any recommendations and if you suggest 1 or the other what would match well with your choice?

I tend to go with a quality rod first. The IMX is far superior to GL2 or GL3IMO. Personally I would not even consider anything lower than IMX in a G.Loomis rod.

So, let me figure this out...

You want to compare the Sustain and the Stradic CI4.

Then you want to compare the GL2/3 and IMX.

Then validate which would be the better to spend money on first and replace later?

The first of your questions has been answered a few times in your other threads.

The IMX is the better of the three without a doubt.

As for the third, only you can decide what's more important to you. A sensitive rod, or a smooth reel.

I gave you a G Loomis IMX, light spinning rod and Shimano reel combo for under 300. This combo is a solid, upper level combo that will last your for years.

How much more of an upgrade do you want to do from there? NRX model and Sustain? You're looking just shy of a thousand bucks.

x2. I'm very happy with my president xt(which is right below the supreme in the pflueger lineup) so I have good reason to believe the supreme should be better. IMHO pflueger spinning reels are very nice at there price points.

Yeah I am between the President XT or Shimano Sahara

You'll be happy with either of those reels. That 30 size pflueger would be perfect for the type of setup your looking for.

G Loomis SJR 721 IMX

I would only go for the Ci4 if you can find a good deal on it, or you're going to balance it off well with at least a $100 rod.

I use a 3000 Ci4 for saltwater use and it's an AMAZING reel, but I have it paired with a great rod, and I got the reel for $160 on ebay. (The guy thought it was a 'CL4' so no one found the listing :D )

If you get the IMX you can easily put a sub $100 reel, of there or even get a standard stradic for around $120 on ebay and have a great setup.

For the guy wanting a rod and reel he can bank on...the Saltist 2500 or the Penn Clash 2500 either of these will last for years and you have some money left for other stuff later....dont buy until you hold and spin....shimano reels good.....but these others.....big fish fear them. Tight lines.

GLoomis IMX 781 is a great rod. Discontinued but you can find them

Would assume that the OP got it figured out after 8 1/2 yrs.

I am a G Loomis fan 100%. In your budget I would recommend a 6'6" or 6'8" medium action Tatula spinning rod and a Tatula LT 3000 shallow spool spinning reel. You will want for nothing, and if you shop around you can get both for  $300.

I am really into the older IMX SJR and the Tatula spinning rods are pretty close in feel and lightness. Just my 2 cents.

8 years too late! haha

It has been quite a while.

For $400 you can get a Bantam MGL and an IMX Pro. That's a $350 reel and a $325 rod.
