any one ever use a chatter bait before any tips? i bought one works pretty good when i throw a few times but nothing really hitting it. was it worth buying? Just seeing if any one really fishes with them.

Great baits but for me they seem to either really want them or I can't buy a strike. I like them around weeds and docks fished pretty quickly. White with a chartruese trailer or black and blue with a black trailer are my favorite colors.

I use the small 1/8 ounce white one with a white triler from Z-man, i like to burn it as well as jig it around lily pads, it doesnt seem to be as effective in open and deep water

They are awsome in the weeds and in off color water - try alternating your retrieve from slow to bunnin it. Also, for "deeper" water (especially in the Spring) try a pump/jig retrieve - pull it and then let it settle down pull it again.

PS - don't throw them anywhere close to wood - they are a wood magnet

I always toss mine and reel it just fast enough so I can feel the vibration in my rod. I might burn it sometimes or even let sink and try to work the bottom with it. What color chatter did you get and what brand? some say knocks isn't always good. Chatterbaits are always my favorite bank attack when coming to small ponds. You might just have to experiment with your retrieve and different trailers as well, from flukes, Magic Shad, curl tails, craws, to split tail.

I always had luck on white or white/chartreuse with a matching Live Magic Shad. Lately been tossing out black/blue with no luck but might not be in the right conditions for that one. I never tried around the lilies just the outside of them with no luck.

Also don't be alarm if have a catfish on the end of your line!!!

Started bass fishing late this spring. Caught some nice fish on a Z-Man Chatter Bait in Tempe Town Lake, an urban (very urban) body of water. It does NOT lack food. Tons of it. Add shallow water and 110 degree desert heat and you get little interest. Still, these chatter baits generate a good reaction bite before the sun comes up.

Good lure in this environment.

Fish it around hydrilla and when it feels like it has stopped vibrating rip it out of the grass and be ready for a strike if one is around!

I only have 1 chatter bait and it says the original im not sure if thats Z-Mans but I have had my best luck fishing it like a jig. It stand perfectly straight up when sitting on the bottom.

i have a z-man its neon green with yellow cause most of the bass i catch love the color green and yellow but im up for some changes so ill take some of the ideas you guys threw at me and see how it goes. and the videos i will watch to. thanks

I was in the same boat, I bought a couple and a while back but never really did anything with them. Here lately though, they have been the ticket. Been using the chart/white with a Zoom Swim Tail Fluke as a trailer, and man oh man has it been whacking them. I have found, after actually giving the bait an honest chance, that it's really versatile.

Just nailed a 6lb Largie on one this morning. Slow rolling it through a laydown on a point. I can agree with the above statement about the strikes.... Love it or hate it.... I've found them to be a prety decent big fish bait, and I personally like the original Chatterbait... Whit, Chartreuse/White, and Brown Orange (Custom Job on an Original Chatterbait) I have seen a pig caught on the chatter frog too....

If u have smallmouth in your area try throwing a mini chart. Or white one there better then a grub most of the time.
