I'm giving you $150.00...

Featured Replies

.....Well, kinda.

I have $150.00 to spend at the tackle store on BAITS ONLY.  I DON'T need topwater as I have plenty.  I DON'T need plastic worms like Senkos as I have plenty.  I DO need other plastics however.

Keep in mind I fish lots of vegatation and lots of brush piles.  Lots of rock piles for smallies as well.

Also keep in mind I want to try the shakey head technique for the first time so include your favorite shakey head setup if you have one.

What EXACTLY are you guys buying with $150.00 if you're me?

Please don't just answer "Crankbaits"  or "Swimbaits" or "creature baits"  Please be specific.

Thanks All !

DO YOU want me to CAST them for YOU too? ;D

TUBES/netbait craws and the GOBYS work GREAT up HERE.

Well with 150, I would probably spend a good half of it on Berkley Chigger Craws (black and blue my favorite color), and the other half Senkos and Trick worms. It's very simple, because those are my top producing soft plastic baits.

As far as shakey heads go: I really like the Strike King shakey heads with the Strike King 3X worms or a trick worm.

NOTE: just realized you dont want Senkos...go buy some more Chigger Craws

lizards, paca craws, sweet beavers, and baby brush hogs for creature baits.  Tubes, senkos, and trick worms cover most of the rest.  Toad baits too(ribbits work well)

bass pro humpin toads work great for smallies.

Tubes-anything in watermelon/blk flakes or green pumpkin/red flakes(mizmo tubes are my favorite)

Paca craw-alabama craw color

ugly otter(small and large size)- in green pumpkin

That's about $100 for me...I stock up on those above.

I don't do shaky worms much,so i really can't recommend in that department.

No problem. I also took the liberty of adding to your 'knowledge'. However, due to my addiction to fishing I have no plans for a book. I'll keep you posted. :D

P.S. Lighten up some. Several us of here joke around whether we know you or not. No offense is ever intended. Please review this thread: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1247852814/0

You sure got me confused man. Let me get this straight. You can post a sarcastic, funny comment in my thread to me, but when I do it back to you, I'm being uncool and need to lighten up? Errrrrrrrrrrrrr, Uhhhhhhhhhhhh........... Not exactly seeing the logic here.

In any case, you can trust my feelings are still in tact and I've stopped crying. Although, because of your comments, I'm going to start seeing a psycologist on Monday. ;D

It's all good. There are fellas here who take the ribbing very lightly and those who want to throw down. We'll just chalk it up to experience and move on.  :D

Megastrike ShakE2 jig head, with a four inch Strike King finesse worm (3X), watermelon/red flake if you need the color.

Wacky Jig Head rigged again with the Strike King finesse worm. The hook looks fragile, but it does the job. Eventually, the weedless wire will fall out.

I recently began using the SK finesse worms, and they are fantastic. They do not tear. No need for O rings. Caught as many as 12 on the same worm, and other than being scuffed it was in otherwise perfect shape, good for another 12 fish, but I lost the rig when it hung in the rocks.

You'll notice the difference when you wacky rig one, and pierce it through the body. It stretches considerably before the hook penetrates it. It also grips the hook shaft, and does not move as easily as all the other worms I've used.

The one bugaboo. You cannot push it onto the weedless rigging barb on the Megastrike jig.

I clamp a needle or fine finish nail in vice grips, then clamp that to a table. I heat the needle with a lighter or propane torch. Then, I center the worm head on the point and insert the needle about three quarters of an inch along the center of the worm. Twist the worm as it's removed. Prevents the plastic from sealing back together.

Takes only a couple of minutes or less to prep a package of these worms.

The third jig head I've been fiddling with is the Owner twistlock jig hook.

I prefer the Wacky Jig Head for wacky rigging, and the Megastrike for weedless rigging, giving it the edge over the Owner, though I could live with the Owner without disappointment.

Those are the three I tried. Other jig heads may work as well, or even better. If they do, I sure want to know about it.

I have an assortment of round head and football head jig hooks. I'll work them into the rotation and find out.

Good luck. I hope they work for you as well as they have for me.

I'll second the Rage Tail motion.  I have done very well with them this year.  Lately the fishing had slowed down on them, so I tried the above, and I'm into the fish again.

The more weapons in your arsenal, the better.  Provided you have gone through basic training with them, and learned how to use them.

I would get some of the following:

Yum Garrett Mega Tubes in blue/black, june bug, watermelon and watermelon neon

Owner Phantom Tube Hooks in 1/8oz and 1/4oz

Yum Lizards in 6" in june bug, black/blue and watermelon red flake

Yum Zellamanders in 7" in watermelon red flake and black/blue

Yum Big Show Paddle in 6" and 7.5", june bug and watermelon red flake

Strike King Shakey Head Jigs or the new Gamakatsu shakey head jig

Eakins Finesse jigs in 5/16 and 3/8oz, black and blue and PBJ

Net Bait Paca Paca Chunks and Tiny Paca Chunks in black and blue and PBJ or Watermelon and jelly

Thats what I would consider a good start for me.

Later, :D

Worms

Trick worms- Motor oil, green pumpkin with any color flake, kudzu

Culprit worms- Pick any color, but if you need one, red shad, or green pumpkin

Finesse worms- (see trick worms)

Mag Finesse worms- Watermelon with red flake

Mag Trick worms- Watermelon with red flake

Cranks

Diawa peanut- black with silver sides both 3' and 5' divers

Strike king shallow diver (0-3)- Sexy shad

Strike King red eye shad- Sexy shad

x2.  I never would have guessed it.

     ::D

since you got the worms and all that good stuff,  would reccomend berkley chigger craws, they work well for both jig trailers and just by themselves.

rattle traps, i can never seem to go wrong with tieing on strike king red eyes shad in the sexy shad color usually always is a producer for me.

i have never shakey head fished so i dont know what to tell you there.

i do good with the enticer football head jigs in either black or pb&j color, with a watermelon candy or pumkin/green chigger craw as a trailer

get a couple spinner baits i recommend strike king or booyah

get a bunch of colors in everything so you can see what is going to work that day, and good luck

I'll second Catts ragetails but I'd add some Chompers skirted twin tail grubs in colors of your choice for the smallies.  They catch LM too BTW and work great on shakey heads.
