I was getting frustrated with bullet weights so i tried a shaky head jig on my craws, tubes, etc. I love how they look in the water. Is there a rule against doing this? Or do you guys use this technique?

thats the thing i havent really used it too much yet.....maybe 10 min total and had one bite, but i was just wondering if people have had as much or more luck using this technique

I have caught fish on a gene larew salt craw on a shakey head. Trust me it works.

I fish a public county lake a lot during spring and fall, and my personal best from that particular lake (about 5lbs) came off of a zoom lil' critter craw rigged on a shakey head. It's still one of my favorite rigs in that lake.

Bassmaster magazine ran an artical that had the Greg Hackney using a shaky head with a Zoom brush hog and other craw like baits. He said it was like a jig with the advantages of a Texas rig.

The Front cover of another bassmaster magazine had a picture if Gerry Swindle doing the same thing.

If the pros use it must work.

There really aren't any rules about this stuff, only best practices. Some baits are so bulky that they inhibit a good hookset with some jigheads, so watch for that.  Other than that, the sky is the limit bro.

That can also be remedied by finding some different jigheads with bigger,longer,or wider gap hooks. That said I have had success with paca and rage craws,gambler bb cricket,brush hogs in both sizes,zoom speed craws and critter craws,yammy creatures and flappin hogs,yum wooly hog tail,senkos,sizmic toads.

Actually, that's why I said "some" plastics and "some" jigs, LOL.  But, do you have any recommendations for large gap shaky heads?

I totally missed the "some" jigheads part and yes I know you already know what I was saying.

I have some falcon k-shakey head and k-shakey standup head with a wide gap.They are nice for thick baits including senkos(link not posted since I got them from the"forbidden" site)
