Bc Cranking Setup

Featured Replies

I've got a Curado 200E5 on the way, but I'm looking to match it with a decent cranking rod. Right now, thinking about either the St. Croix Avid, AVC70MM or the Falcon Lowrider XG, LFC-4-17. Does anyone have any opinions on either rod? I'm open to other suggestions in that price range. Also, any opinions on the reel?

I've had the St. Croix LTB in that action and was labeled as a "small Cranker". I'm not sure what you want to throw with it but when it means small Cranker its right on the money because it's meant for small shallow cranks IMO. Anyways that's the only experience I have close to what you want!

I have two of the AVC70MM avids. They make great crank baits rods for up to 5/8 or even 3/4 oz baits. They are probably best suited for shallow or medium depth crankbaits. They definitely help keep smallies buttoned up on treble hooked baits.

i love that Falcon rod. IMO the rod is a heavier rod by todays standards, but not tip heavy. i had a 200E5 strapped on the rod and i loved the feel, just not the speed. now i have a Sol on the rod. i throw 5/16 and 3/8 oz baits on the rod, a lot of DT-6's, Risto Raps, Fat Raps, Gerold Swindle Lucky Craft and the Bandit series.

I've got a 200e5 on a St.Croix Pro Glass and love it. I mainly fish shallow and medium runners on it and it casts them a mile and keeps fish stuck. I know the Avid lineup are great rods though and I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with them.

I have the AVC70MM paired up the 200E5 and I'd say it feels pretty good. For the price, I don't think you will find a better reel than the Curado E series. And for the rod; Like the guys above said, it's definitely a 'niche' rod, made for shallow-medium cranking. It also works well for 3/8 lipless cranks but can't really handle the 1/2 ounce and above. I wish the rod had a little more backbone for setting the hook but other than that it's a fun rod to have, especially for tearing up some dinks on ponds.

If you're looking for something that's probably gonna be more versatile, I'd look into the AVC70MHM. I haven't been able to get my hands on one, but from what I've heard, it can handle a wider range of applications.

Also look at the Dobyns 705CB Glass. Its a great rod for most any crank.
