I have Stradic 1000FI

Any here have their Stradics upgraded or supertuned? Did you like the outcome? Recommendations?

Im looking at the schematic here and see there are a number of gears(pinion,drive,wormshaft,idle) that could be polished but wondering if it would do any good. I know I wont get more distance but Im looking for quieter and much smoother feel.

I see there is a rotor ring could that be replaced with a bearing or polished for smoother rotation? The rotor on my reel has always had a whirrrr to it. Returned 2 others cause of whir but just live with the sound this one makes.

Im not going to do this myself but some sites I went to just mention baitcasters, not spinning, for supertuning.

Mine works fine, I even use it for light saltwater (FI2500) I see no reason to modify it, at least from a performance point of view.

Give the Pflooger a bit more time and it will feel much older than it is. Initial quality is very high, but they have very, very low longevity. Is it worth tuning? No, there's not that much to make enough difference. You can simply add a bearing or two and smooth it out, as well as quiet it down a little. Some of the "whir" is actually air movement from the rotor, too. IMO they're one of the best reels made for general use, the new FJ series is incredible, too.

I agree with Hammer, I have 2 fi's both 4000 and used exclusively in saltwater, they do the job more than adequately and really do not need any improvement. The demands placed on a freshwater spinning reel do not compare to the demands needed for saltwater. I use 3 supremes for freshwater, have yet to oil them and they are going on 3 years, work like new and perform exceptionally well for freshwater, don't see the need to improve them either.

I was using my supreme 35, which is not a saltwater reel, for snook for well over a year with no problem, I did switch this reel to freshwater and replaced it with my soron 20 for salt, I prefer this set up..

2000fi/4000fi are built nothing like the 1000fi, in our shop the 1000fi is treated as a very light freshwater reel. It isn't built to work salt or heavy freshwater angling. I would recommend a 2500 series reel for any Bass fishing.

If you knew the true history of super tuning bait-casting reels you would find it was a process by which the free spooling friction points of the reel were cleaned polished to help with a casting distance problem ALL older (90's) series bait casting reels were having.

Super tuning was/has never been intended for spinning gear. Because of the tourqing issues in the reels gearing was used for ease of cranking, and, bearings were the way to free up and smooth out the reels.

2. The "rotor ring" (#7800) is part of the anti reverse bearing, and cannot be replaced by a bearing, as such. Your reel probably needs a good cleaning, and the main gear shims might need adjustment for smoother feel.

I have to agree as well. I have experimented with some success as far as smoothing out a reel but honestly, not to the extent that I would be comfortable charging extra for the service. Too many people do not give their spinning reels the attention that the baitcasters get though as far as maintenance, which is a shame.

True about maintenance for spinning gear, at least for me. My freshwater spinning reels get a drop oil every now and then, like once a year, saltwater reels a bit more often...............that's it. A good spinning reel is like a timex watch, takes a "lickin and keeps tickin".

Blind hate? You haven't a clue how many reels I've abused, and of what brand or type. It isn't blind hate at all, it's first hand experience. And it's spelled that way intentionally. If I have to explain it, you're already beyond it.

Yeah I use it at a little lake where a GOOD bass is 16" & small cats 2#-3# rarely in 10+yrs have I caught bigger.

Tom, that takes a ticking campaign went on way in to the late 70s, and seem to recall major athletes at the time doing commercials for them. Maybe not as big as being on Wheaties boxes, but pretty close.

In a spinning reel no moving part contributes to the casting distance, however, periodic cleaning and lubing will extend the life of the reel and reduce frustrations.

If the line roller has a bearing, clean and lube it with a light oil.

If the reel has a drag stack, better (smoother) drag discs may be available or you may want to grease (drag grease) the existing discs.

Clean the old grease out of the housing and from the gears and re-grease the gears packing lightly but thoroughly between the gear teeth.

Clean the bearings and re-oil them with a medium heavy oil to maintain smoothness (any bearings in the handle as well).

I've read differing views about lubing the anti-reverse bearing so I leave mine alone and hope for the best.

I used to squirt oil in any opening I could find on my baitcasters and wondered why my drag and anti-reverse stopped working right LOL!
