So I have been bass fishing and using a right hand baitcaster since I was 15. Now I am 31 and just decided to sell all my right hand reels and buy left hand.... It just started to bug me that I would switch hands. I used a friends left hand and while it was a bit awkward at first, most trying to set the hook, but after a day of fishing it just felt right. I guess it makes sense because I fish spinning reels with left hand retrieve. Oh well, guess I need to put some stuff on eBay.

Not weird at all. I think that all the time. I keep telling myself to buy left handed baitcasters but the right hended ones are always on sale. I don't mind it except for flipping and pitching. I read something that said righties use spinning reels with the handle on the left because you usually work the lure alot with spinning tackle and most anglers like to work the rod with their strong hand.

I wish I could make the switch but even after fishing with a left handed baitcaster for a couple months it was still really awkward. I switch hands midcast so easily anyways I don't even realize I'm doing it. If it works for you though who cares if it was weird?

Go with what you feel comfortable and feels right. I'm left handed and on my spinning reels I reel with my left, right handed never felt right to me but on baitcasters I cast left, reel right handed absolutely fine and probably couldn't even reel with the left on a baitcaster.

Sucks you had to sell your gear just to make the switch but if it benefits you that all that matters unless you end up switching back. lol.

last summer all of my rods were stolen out of my garage. I got to thinking about it and did the same thing your doing when i replaced them. Its so much more efficient in my opinion. it will take a bit to get used to but once you do you will be glad you made the switch.

I just bought a revo sx left hand. All my right hand gear is team daiwa but I really liked the revo sx I tried. I was planning on waiting and trying out the left hand a few times to make sure it feels good before I sell my gear.

Yes, left hand retrieve is correct for a right-handed person. This is true for both baitcast and spinning reels. Any claims to the contrary should be rejected.

This may be law in Tennessee. I think it is legal to marry your first cousin there though. Just kidding!

I am more comfortable controlling the rod with my dominant hand. There ain't no right or wrong here...use what works best for you.

I view it like this.

I use spinning gear for finesse fishing. Therefore, the rod goes in my right hand because the action is most important, not reeling.

However, I use bait casting gear for moving lures. Therefore the rod goes in the left, and I can reel fast with my right hand.

Finesse bait-casters are left handed as well, because I use my right hand for the rod in finesse tactics.
