What Gives!?!

Recommended Posts

I know its been happening all season, but its finally sunk in. Why in the world are they taking the hits out of American football? I'm not paying a hundred plus dollars a ticket to watch a bunch of millionaires play two hand touch. Where is the entertainment in that? For the ammount of money I have to pay to go to a game I wanna see someone get there head knocked off! It's bad enough the games are interrupted every five minutes for commercial breaks. This is getting absurd. I wanna get back to the days, of Skip Thomas, Howie Long, Dick Butkus, and my all time favorite Jack Tatum. By God those men could take your head off. I'm tired of these prissy millionaires and these no hit rules. I might have to start watching rugby. Least they can still hit. Ok I'm done with my rant now.

Oh and go Raiders and Go Blues!

They're trying to keep those millionaires you pay to watch on the field and healthy, even past their playing. It has become practice for guys to hit with the top of their head to the head of the other guy, especially when we're talking about receivers. That's just not OK, and it's not the way the greatest hitter of all time, Ronnie Lott, did it. You still get the great hits when you lead with the shoulder and "see what you hit". The tackling lately has been going to crap, both in the NFL and in college, with people going for the highlight hit versus a sure tackle. You're the type of fan that watches Nascar for the crashes. :D

I agree with leading with the crown of helmet and hitting up high but there is some calls that has been clean and maybe should be under review when the flag is thrown to make sure clean or not since it's a costly penalty 15 yards. I understand it will take to much time out for a review to see if hit is clean but if they want to review every TD then why not to be fair to those who plays and make a clean tackle and get hit for unnecessary roughness when it's clearly not.

I can't wait to see what's going to happen to Ndamukong Suh since everyone even Rodney Harrison who been taking up for him says he no longer can and says to suspend him.

When Rodney Harrison says it's time for a suspension, it's time for a suspension. I hated that guy with SD, then absolutely loved him with the Pats.

I agree with ya on leading with the top of your head.

But come on now, hitting a defenseless reciever resulting in a penalty and fine. Is pushing it. To quote Jack Tatum, "I like to believe my best hits border on felonious assault."

And Mr Suh needs to be booted from the league. Stomping someone has no place in football.

Lastly, I watch NASCAR because I like watching people make left hand turns all day. ;)

I meant to get it in up there but they have been flagging what should be legal hits, seemingly because they were so violent. I don't remember who the Stiller was that got another flag and then fine, but the second one was totally fine. But there are a LOT of guys (James Harrison and Ray Lewis included) that lead with that crown.

Suh's only mistake was getting caught. Much worse than that happens on the bottom of piles but can't be seen.

You so are not kidding about the bottom of a pile. I had an ex raider line backer inform me of the best way to get the football from the bottom of a pile. It is one of the crudest things I've ever heard in my life, but it worked like a charm. Still though there's a big difference between what's seen and what isn't. Intentionally stomping on someone in plain sight of everyone is different then breaking fingers and what not under a pile.

It is different story stomping someone in plain sight, but I don't see much of a difference between that and trying to poke out someone's eyes at the bottom of a pile. Either way it's not pleasant, it's just a matter of when you let your frustrations out.

It's not the players who should be fined. Suspend the players. donkeykong should be suspended for the rest of the season for his antics all year. Fine the coaches. Starting with the Lions. What a bunch of DB's The blatant disrespect they have for the sport is what gets to me. I guess that's what you resort to when you're the best worst team in the league.

I agree football is putting too many restrictions on where and how you can hit a guy. Can't even level a QB anymore :D . There's always UFC.

Bill Romanowski? i remember him telling a story about how he intentionally snapped a couple of dave meggetts fingers in a pile up.

former Redskins LBer Lavar Arrington has a radio show here and refuses to talk about on air what goes on in a pile up

I may be way off here but the way I understand the "defenseless reciever" thing is they are looking for whether or not the D-back is trying to wrap up or not. If they hit the reciever high and don't try to wrap up then they flag it, if they try to wrap up then they don't. I think it is because it is harder to headhunt and kind of forces you to lift your head so you're less likely to lead with the crown of the helmet if you are actually trying to wrap the reciever up. Not saying I agree it, I love watching guys get laid out, when they're on the other team anyways, but that's how I heard the thinking behind the rule explained.

That is exactly who it was. I'll pm you the little jewel of information he gave to me. I just see me getting in trouble for posting it. And Romanowski was a straight beast when he played. He was dirty. Yet he was a dang beast.

Please tell me the player in this video got fined or suspended in addition to the ejection...That is dumbest thing I have ever seen...

Stafford, the Lions QB was fined $7500 for the facemask, DJ Moore the Bear was fined $15,000 and ejected from the game.

The fine for facemask is kind of ridiculous. I bet the fine wouldn't have taken place if the player hadn't got up and ran back at him and hit Stafford... I don't follow the NFL, but it seems lately there a lot of fines going on.(I've been seeing headlines.) I heard one of the Bears' player got a fine for wearing orange shoes? And Rex Ryan got a fine for cursing at a fan? Really, NFL? Really?

Gotta make that money. And yes a lot of the penalties and fines are ridiculous. I'll say most are deserved, but more and more are starting to blur the line.

But hey maybe I'm impartial because the Raiders are the most penalized team in the NFL right now.

Roger Goodell is just trying to promote the NFL brand in a good light, which is his a big part of his job. Apparently, safety of the players is high on his list as well.
