Whats the best knot with 10-15# flourocarbon line, I use p-line flouro and have problems with trilene, and palomar knot. I can't have my knots breaking, because i fish tournaments. I'm stumped, any suggested knots?

oh yea, the san diego is awesome! try out the "shaw grigsby" knot. i use that as well and have never ever had an issue. i call the the shaw grigsby cus even he didnt know what it was called lol

The palomar and trilene knots are good knots but their knot strength sucks on flouro it seems..

I have zero issues with a Palomar and fluoro. Take your time cinching it down, and make sure you moisten it. If there is a kink before the hook, start over because you failed, and it will break.

I had issues with the polamar breaking with my lighter Fluor but the "shaw Grigsby" has been good so far. Have heard a lot of people like the sam Diego.

I've never had a break off using the Uni knot, and it only takes about 5 seconds to tie.

I've never had any issues with the palomar knot. If you tie it right, its got amazing strength. I use it on 6 pound fluoro for drop shotting all the way to the up to the heavy braid I throw my frogs on. Just like J Franco said, you need to be sure moisten the knot. I think thats where most people go wrong when tying the palomar.

That and the final cinching. Once you gather the mainline around the hook, there will be a loop of slack from the tag. You can pull the mainline to take up that slack, but you're running the risk of mangling it. better to finally cinch it from the tag end.

I don't understand why everyone abandoned the Trilene knot. Not only is one of, if not the strongest, but IME is the best for Flouro too.

I'm basing that off personal experience though. No idea what knot wars found in their tests.

I even go the lazy route and sometimes do the same Trilene knot when drop shotting, and use the stand out hooks. Works for me.

(though I am going to get away from those hooks, and back to regular hooks)

I can't speak for everyone, but I never used a Trilene knot, so I didn't really abandon it. Maybe that's case with the rest of us?

I found a new knot online and it were you go through the eye 3 times then wrap the main line 6 times, then proceed to put the tag end through the 3 loops that you put through the eye, its very easy to tie and very strong, more so than the palomar IMO also stronger in knot wars.

Try that with 15lb on a 3/0 EWG, see how far it gets you.

Oh I understand what your sayiung lol, yeah its kinda hard to get all 3 through on some smaller eyes but i make it work!, strong knot too, forgot what its called.
