I can not provide an answer for you on this, sorry.

But I do have a question; would a plastic covering over the tungsten negate some of the "sensitivity" advantage tungsten has over lead ?

What exactly are you trying to do? I've put tungsten powder into senko style baits before.

I'm in the process of making a jig alternative for MA. I made a pseudo jig using a tungsten sinker and paint on tungsten just doesn't seem to hold up, so I was wondering if you could dip the sinker.

My jig is in the Northeast Forum under "Jigs for Mass?"...lead is now out

BTW, I hope all is well with you GMAN!

I don't think the plastic would stick to the weight. After it hits some cover the plastic is going to come right off. I use a long spoon to stir my plastic as I'm pouring, once it cools, you can pull it clean off.

I haven't played around with tungsten. I would think powder paint would still be the right answer. Does it chip too easy or something?

or maybe try an epoxy jig paint with multiple coats, then a few clear coats???

Good to hear from ya Jig!

If your pouring yourself your best alternative is tin/bismuth alloys.

I've never powder coated tungsten. I'd probably spray paint it then use some devcon for a clear coat on it. You could also try some Plasti dip from Home Depot. It might work. Its the same stuff they dip tool handles in.

Plastic wont hold up.

You're probably right about the powder paint, FuzzyGrub. Tungsten is so darn hard that I don't think any paint would last very long.

Thanks for the reply Bass Dude, that's good to know.

jkarol24, not a bad idea! BTW, welcome to BR!

GMAN, my buddy uses the Plasti Dip method, I forgot all about that. I like the Devcon clear coat idea as well.

Thanks for all your help guys! Very much appreciated!

Have you tried coloring it with a Sharpie ?

Sharpie will rub off. I had some I did last spring and the color rubbed off on my fingers this past October. I like the Devcon Idea!

Hard as nails nail polish works about as good and last about as long and is way cheaper.

If it is a plain tungsten sinker I saw somewhere that people were heating them with a torch to make them black.
