I'm beginning to look at some megabass lures after hearing some great things about them. I have been using lucky craft lures with some great success and I am wanting to take it a step further. So, to get me started...what megabass lure would you pick to start with and why?

I throw all of them. The only baits I use are shallow baits, nothing that dives beyond 8ft. Sorry for being so vague. I fish in a canal where the only baitfish are tilapia, sunfish, and bluegill. The average depth is about 12ft (the exception being that there is a lot of moss on the bottom - which is why I use shallow/topwater baits).

Griffon Zero, Clyclone SRX, Pop X, Pop Max, Vision 110 and Flap Slap would be a good start. These are what work for me in that condition.

Wow, I checked out the Flap Slap on megabass's website....the GG Gill color is amazing looking! I'm definitely getting that one. I'll probably end up with a vision 110 too...uh oh.. I can see where this is going! Thanks for your suggestions.

I actually forgot that I ordered a Deps Buzzjet Jr. last week from japan. So for now, I'm going to pass on topwater lures until I try that one out.

Pop Max is a LOT different than a Buzzjet. I would use the Pop Max 9 times out of 10 over a buzzjet. It is an amazing lure.

Nice! Hows the Jr.'s action compared to the bigger one? I don't really have a rod that handles 1oz+ baits that well.

Griffons are very pretty but they are too small, they are dink magnets.

I'd say popmax since your in Florida you should get use out of it most of the year.

Flap Slap is a great bait. PopMax is my favorite, bar none.

If you can't find a lot of baits, try Chad's Megabass, he's got a pretty good assortment always available, without the international shipping.

The old xj-100 brokenback minnow plug. Just a funbait to fish that would catch all species big and small.
