Other than live bait what is a good lure to catch bream?

I think a variety of small artificials will catch them. I don't target them as often as I used to, but these are what I used and all were successful:

Small Kastmaster spoon

Rapala Mini Fat Rap

Smallest size Rapala Countdown

I'm not sure exactly what the word "bream" covers, but what I caught were Bluegill and Pumpkinseed. They're great fighters on an ounce-for-ounce basis and are loads of fun on an ultralight with 4# line.

"black beetles"

but nothing much beats a cricket.....black beetle comes close when fish are active.

Brad balls or some flour/water mixture.

Small beetlespins

Small inline spinners (roostertails, mepps, panther martin, etc.)

Fly and bubble with something rubber legged

Small dark marabou jig under a bobber

1 inch curly tail grubs on a 1/32 or so jighead

the smallest classic rapala in persh or gold/black

Get a micro rod and have at it

used to use a small popper on a fly rod and wear them out in ponds.

I used to catch a bunch of bluegills on floating rapalas (F-5 and F-7s) when fishing for bass... I moved onto other baits and don't catch too many sunfish any more. I once caught a huge (like 1.5 pounds) 'gill on a 5" senko once that gave me a memorable fight.

Sorry, my reply probably isn't very helpful. :)

Last year i bought a small lure called a Rebel Tad Fry.

its a floater/diver and has one small treble hook on it. i must say i had a blast throwing this lure and catching bream. they will hit it on top and will hit it while reeling it in. also caught a few bass on it when i tried it in a pond. its designed to imitate a tadpole...

You can catch them with small in-line spinners, micro beetle spins, and small Road Runner jigs. Rebel makes some realistic tiny plugs like the crickhopper that will get them too. I even used a rattling crappie bobber I found on the lake to cast a popping fly once. It worked.

Berkley Gulp Alive micro baits always work for me, the white waxies are my favorite. I always keep a jar in my tackle box for when the bass bite slows down.

The bluegill around me like the powerbait crappie dough bites. They tear up the small fly poppers too.

Wardens Rooster Tail, I kill them with my UL.

Rapala just came out with a new smaller version of the floater for 5.99 supposed to be for ultra light applications for perch and bluegills. Tinking about picking up some for my son. But u can also use Manns makes a little crank like hard bait. Rebel makes the wee series, they also have a good line of small craws and grasshopper baits that work too. Is there any red ears down here in Fl? I used to get the big ones on night crawlers and a split shot.

the Rebel Tad Fry beats the small craws and crickhoppers easily when it comes to bream. its an amazing little bait

Try a small spoon; i.e.: 1/12 oz. Kastmaster. Or a similarly sized Swedish Pimple. Cast out....count down..... If your line twitches during your count. That is probably the suspended depth they are in. Start your retrieve. Then stop & let the spoon flutter down a bit. Start your retrieve, etc.. You will get bit and it will probably be a very large 'gill to boot! Yellows and crappie love this presentation as well. Good Luck! :)

That's what I use when chasing bream. I have a bunch of Bett's Trim Gim poppers in different colors that I toss with my little 3wt rig.
