Whos Up And Ready To Do Some Fishing

Summer Fishing
For me Summer is more about where than what I fish with. You can't catch them if they aren't there. I start off with a map in my hand and look for long tapering points that go all the way to the the creek of river channel. I also look for humps out in deeper water. (10 to 30ft deep) The I get on the water and head to those spots. I turn on my depth finder and motor over the spot several times. I set the depth on my finder to double what the bottom is. What I'm looking for is the strong double echo that only rocks and very hard bottom gives off. If I'm shallower I'm also looking for grass. These are the kind of spots that I mark and come back to after I've checked a few other places. Then and only then will I pull out my four rods. (Carolina Rig, Dropshot, Deep Crankbait, and Jig) I fish them very slowly and try to stay in contact with the bottom while working each. I will make hundreds of casts to the spots from all different angles and so far this summer I haven't been skunked.

Long Mike...49 Again!
Why? He'd probably forget what he wished for by the time he finished blowing all of them out. Happy Belated B-Day Mike.

Line Break Around The Spool
If you make a cast with a loop or a partial backlash, your line will slap the inside of the reel dozens of time during that cast. (buzzing sound) This will weaken your line in that one spot and it will eventually cause it to break. This is especially true with fluorocarbon and co-polymer line.

So Who"s Going To Icast Now That Its In Orlando This Year
This simple answer is no. You have to have a pass and it is only sold to companies, buyers, and press.

Ok
If it works then there's nothing bad about it. When I use a splitshot or mojo rig I use a ML Rod and 6 or 8lb flouro line. The only hook I will use is a #1 offset worm hook. Even with trickworms. Some people think I'm crazy but I've landed some pretty big fish with it including a 9.98lb bruiser out of the grass.

Ok
I'm interested. How do you rig it?

Fishing Sun Gear
I got them at a local fly shop. The sleeves were 20 and so were the gloves. I think the buff was a little more than that.

Do You Spank Your Kid(S)?
Exactly what I do and I'll add one thing. Never spank in anger. Take a deep breath, calm down a little and decide then if their action warrants a spank or something different. Note: In public, two good ones look better than four light ones. lol

Fishing Sun Gear
I bought SIMMS sun sleeves and gloves last week and used them on a very hot day of guiding. I have to say that I was very impressed. I put the sleeves on and my arms instantly felt a little cooler. I don't know how they do it but that's what happened. The gloves were nice to. Even in 95 degree heat I forgot that both the sleeves and the gloves were on. It was great. I did hear that the gator had a problem staying on if the top of it wasn't perfectly straight. I am keeping my buff for now.

And that my friends is why I refuse to buy a Shimano. Biased opinions are about as useful as an inflatable anchor.

What Time Do You Start Fishing?
For fun fishing it whenever she lets me go. For guiding it's usually around 8am.

Fishing Clothing
Being that I'm on my boat over 100 days a year and I hate sunscreen. I take sun protective clothing very seriously. I love Columbia shirts and pants. They have served me well over the years. I pair them with a UV Buff face protector and the good ol Georgia Bulldog hat and I'm pretty much good, but before I realized that I needed to have long sleeve shirts I bought a bunch of short sleeved ones and so I thought I was stuck with having to put sunscreen on again. But I just recently discovered Simms Sunsleeves. They are pull over sleeves that cover the part of your arm that short sleeved shirts don't. Now that I've found them I have started to look at the rest of the Simms line and they look much better than Columbia but they are pricey. So I may just put them on a wish list or something.

Do You Bring A Gun
I've actually had to pull mine out once. I was fishing out of my 14ft jon boat and two young guys came around a point and into the cove where I was fishing. They pulled right on to the spot where I was fishing and they started some small talk. The kept getting closer to my boat and I didn't think anything of it until one of them whispered to the other. "Does he have anything." I reached inside my tacklebox and showed them what I had and they promptly left the area. The strange thing is that this was the first time I had carried my firearm with me in my boat.

Issues With My Minn Kota 101
It sounds like what mine did last year. I had to replace the entire circuit board inside the pedal and it was as good as new. But give MK a call first to get their help.
