Fishing deep open water
Your good lol. That is where I have been catching the majority of my fish. The deepest spots are right on the dam. Around 18 feet I think as of right now. However the other end where the water enters is very very very weedy. You know the "bassy" look. Been more active there as of late hitting the edges of the cover. The water does exit by the d**n out of a cement landing that goes under the earth d**n out the other side to a small creek with only small blue gill/shiners in there. Good to find bait though. A lot of the time I stand on this cement outlet during the evening times and cast parallel down the bank with a buzzbait. But during the day I'm going to try what you suggested because the sun beats down big time there. So topwater doesn't do anything during the day.

JIG AND PIG...1rst time user tonight. HELP!
Most of the time I have heard that using a pork trailer should be done on 1/2 ounce and up jigs. Don't know how much truth there is to that. I use mostly smaller trailers on the bitsy bugs like zoom small chunks. Although you did say that it was a mini frog. Whats the size on it and are they wide?

Wiggle Rig
I picked up the finesse pack for 7 bucks shipped. Why not? There are a lot of spots that I think this would do wonders. Especially for the smallies in the spring. They love that eratic behavior. If it doesn't work than 7 bucks is 7 bucks.

Help with fishing Frogs/Toads
uMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, Nope. like ring fry, the horney toad is one of mainstays. It's a terrific bass catcher. It is as nearly a perfectly weedless lure as you can find. I put a 1/32 oz split shot right at the nose and rig it with a 5/0 owner riggin hook. My favorite technique is to cast it right into the emergent vegetation and buzz it. If it makes it to the weedline without getting blasted, I kill the motion and let it slowly "helicopter" down. Once on the bottom, I'll hop it a few times like a plastic worm, then i'll finish the retrieve by buzzing it all the way back to the boat. I have used the horney toad as a jig trailer, a flippin bait, a c-rig bait, and anyway else I can think of. I have had none left, and so picked up pieces off the floor of the boat. One time I did this as a spinnerbait trailer using one leg. It was a killer. go git em Man Avid thanks for your response as well. Can't wait to get back out there with them. 8-)

Help with fishing Frogs/Toads
I was buzzing it a bit too last night but wasn't sure if I could have been doing something different. The 5/0 Zoom hooks with the screw really kept the bait intact. Was impressed at the sharpness of the Zoom hook as well. Thanks for your response.

Fishing deep open water
Thanks for the tips. I misspoke. I meant to say that the d**n is not natural. It's a man made earth dam. I have been killing them with the soft plastics this year and then I hit the funk. Thats when I broke out the spinnerbaits. But they didn't work last night. Been trying to try my hand at different styles since I was strictly a plastics man before this late summer. I am ordering a Bandit 100 craw/bluegill pattern before I even saw this thread. So I will check that out. Don't think I have the gear to fish a swimbait but maybe I can find a lighter one. Thanks for your recommendations. Definately will be throwing the silver rattletrap, bandit 100, and my Mepps in the spring. Guess its back to my plastics worms and trick sticks for now.

jigs and bank fishing ?
Only have caught a couple of fish this year on a jig from shore. Its one of those lures where I have a ton of them and some trailers but yet I don't put in enough time with them. But I'll get there. Patience is the key.

Help with fishing Frogs/Toads
Just picked up some zoom horny toads and had a chance to fish them yesterday. The leg action is great but as soon as you stop swimming them they just lay motionless on a zoom 5/0 hook and do a semi-helicopter to the bottom. So I take it these are just used for swimming them? Going to be getting in some Gambler Cane Toads. These have the kicker feet to them. How does these get worked? I guess I'm just looking for ways to work these two different frogs and how to properly use them so I get the most out of there actions. Thanks!

Fishing deep open water
Its more of a small lake that has a natural dam at one end. It does have a mucky soft bottom and it is filled with weeds. So far like I said.........spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and flukes have been hot since I started this thread. As far as acres go its around 45 acres according to our DEC.

Fishing deep open water
Well I started this thread not long ago while I was in a slump. Finally found what they wanted. Flukes....flukes.....flukes.....weightless.

Float tubing in texas
I wouldn't do it but I'm also from NY lol. Pick up a coleman 4 man colossus raft for 75 bucks. They inflate and deflat in about 5 minutes and that way your feet are out of the water. You can also sit on the back on the raft without it tipping or what not. I'm close to 205 and have no problems.

Memorable Outing with My Wife and Son
Well to be fair lol my wife didn't want anything to do with fishing until this past Friday. She still doesn't know how I go out so much and why I need so much tackle. But at least she knows the feeling of getting a nice size bass on the line.

Devil's Horse

local pond, can't find smallies
Yeah I haven't ever heard of smallies flourishing in a pond before. Especially with LM and pike in there. But ya never know.

Zoom Trick Worm Colors
I agree with the Bubblegum color. For some reason the fish like the Trick Worms in the crazier colors.

Zoom horny toads
No just a plastic or glass bead. Not a weight. You can find them at walmart in a pack of 25 for .80 cents or so. For the plastic ones anyway.

Memorable Outing with My Wife and Son
For this small pond they are some beauts. My dad was thinking about throwing in some chemicals to kill the weeds and cattails. I told him he was crazy and that he has a nice little bass habitat going on. My wife hates holding the fish though ha ha. As you can tell in the second picture she was having a hard time with that one. He was still kicking his back end a bit and his teeth were scrapping up my wifes thumb pretty good.

Memorable Outing with My Wife and Son
Thank you. I was just blessed to have a night where the fish were very aggressive. We just found out that where my wife and son were casting.......that there were a ton of cynder blocks dumped down in the pond about 12 feet deep. They were casting right on them. Now my wife can finally see why I enjoy fishing so much. I was a proud husband and father.

Sold on wacky rigs.
Try a fluke. Never used one until this weekend and really picked up some nice fish including a fat 20 incher. Also try T-riggin a trick stick weightless and jerk it. Maybe try a shakey head or 10 inch power worm from Berkley. One more thought is a Fat Ika. Congrats on the fish. Wacky riggin trick sticks/senko baits are my favorite way to fish em.

Memorable Outing with My Wife and Son
This past Friday night was great. My wife finally agreed to do some bass fishing with me for the first time. My son has always gone with me and is a smallie killer. Jennifer my wife has always hated fishing because she is not patient enough. So I took her and my son to my dads pond. You can always catch some dinks and possibly a 15incher. Well my wife was killing them. Landing a nice 18inch LM and a 16 inch LM. All on my ultralight setup which held up thankfully for Segaur Invizx 4lb line lol. She hoarsed them all in and I thought she was going to snap my rod or the line because of the thick cover. My son also had a nice run with some smaller fish. Me? Talk about a crap night lol. While they were pulling in fish all night I ended up with two dinks of probably 8 inches of size or less ha ha. Needless to say I was getting harrassed by my wife and son all night lol. I was fishing a 5" Trick stick in black blue flake wacky rigged. The crazy thing is the fish didn't want a big helping tonight. My wife and my son were fishing a 3" Watermeleon Gold Flake trick stick wacky rigged. I was shocked at my wifes fish on that small bait. The cool thing was she was using the ultalight setup like I said so the fight was amazing and the smile on her face was worth the night. My son also had a bass at least 20" up on shore that got off the hook and flopped back into the water. He was MAD. Dylan has me take a picture of every fish that he catchs and that was his biggest of the year by far. Anyway....thanks to Brent at Alluringbait.com for giving my wife a nice fishing outing. She had a blast and hopefully will go again. A big reason why I love doing business with Brent. Good man..great prices...nice baits....and all of our big fish this year have come on his products. Thanks Brent! Now maybe my wife will stop hating on the bait monkey when tackle comes in the mail. ;D

Whats with me, I never get the big bite!!
Yep. Also just take a couple different lures with you on you outings. That way your not "thinking" too much. You will also gain confidence little by little with those couple different lures. I noticed when I was in a funk I was taking my whole collection lol. So try simplifing things and I think you will be okay. Try fishing at dawn and dusk as well. If your going in the day....find some cover and shade. That should get you going again.
