White worms. Any body have any luck with them.
I use a Gene Larew trout worm in white for trout. But I have never had any luck with my white mister twister grubs for bass.

wondering if local pond is empty
I think I read somewhere in the thread that he has seen fish chasing his lure but they won't hit it.

wondering if local pond is empty
I was the same way with one of the local ponds. My wife kept asking me why I kept going back there. Same mindset as you.....its almost like a challenge. I ended up pulling out some nice LM here towards the end of the summer. So stick with it..........BUT and I mean BUT, don't have this as your main spot. You will go insane. I'm lucky enough to have a bunch of fishing ponds/small lakes/ creek at my disposal. Make short hour long trips when your bored or only about an hour of daylight left. That was my ticket.

HYPOTHETICAL "One lure for the rest of your life"
7" Berkley Power Worm Motor Oil color I may have had a lot with senko style baits this year but for my lifetime this worm has given me a ton of memories and some big fish. Not to mention smallies and LM will take this bait along with some aggressive bluegill lol.

Setting the Hook on Soft Plastics
Remember to keep tight lines as well smallie. Thats a big factor right there. You get limp in the line and that smallie jumps.....there is a good chance right there it will be shaken free.

THE CAVITRON BUZZBAIT
Ditto on that quote.I don't throw buzzbaits much and seems like i'm missing out. Like I said in my post above. I never threw a buzzbait until this weekend. When I saw that explosion on the top of the water, I knew I was hooked on this style of fishing. Talk about fish hammering a bait.

Setting the Hook on Soft Plastics
I have only came back into the fishing game this year. I fish a small creek called the Cattaraugus. When the hook isn't buried in the worm you don't need a huge hookset. I'm 28 years old and the last time I was smallie fishing was when I was an early teenager. I probably missed some fish than, but this year I have gone around 8-10 outings and NEVER missed one yet. Not catching monster numbers when I go out but I manage to grab 3-5 SM for the two hours that I'm by the creek. You don't have to believe me but I know that I'm not lying. The smallmouth come up out of Erie into this creek and they are very aggressive. Like I said though.....as soon as I start to bury that hook for LM fishing in heavy cover than my hookups go way way way down. Thats when I start to miss the fish.

Looking for a good Ultra Light set up
I picked up the smallest Pflueger Trion and paired it with a 5'6" BPS Glass UL rod. Pretty happy with hit so far. Plus for the price I couldn't beat it as a bluegill/brook trout setup.

THE CAVITRON BUZZBAIT
Will do. Thanks RW.

THE CAVITRON BUZZBAIT
Thats what I was thinking. From what I heard you want the blade to be in disguise as much as possible. Its there for attention only. Again I don't know jack about them.....just what I heard. Going to be picking up two of them for sure.

THE CAVITRON BUZZBAIT
Must have been a buzzbait weekend. I too had the biggest LM of my life on a strike king buzz on Friday night just before dark. Thing just crushed it. Best part of it was, it was my first time ever fishing a buzzbait and now I can't wait to order a couple more cavitrons. Bad thing was I was trying to play the fish. He jumped once and threw the hook. Like you RW.....my heart was pounding and even though I didn't land him.....he would have been easily 5 lbs. Had a huge mouth on him. What colors and size are you having the hits on RW? Mine was only a 1/4 white strike king and I don't think I had a good hook set because of the small size of the lure.

gulp worm help
The absolute best use of Gulp is to sell it to somebody that doesn't know that it is no good and use the money to buy Zoom worms. Seriously, I hate the stuff, I only catch catfish, bream, and snapping turtles with it. Not a single bass. I'll be honest when I say that the original powerworm formula is a lot better. At least for me. I may have caught that nice smallmouth on the gulp.....but definately not as many fish as the regular formula.

Maybe he was smoking some "stuff" when he posted this. Odd for sure. :-/ :-?

Setting the Hook on Soft Plastics
I wait about 2 seconds after I feel a hit or the line getting that "heavy" feeling. My hookset is pretty much just a quick jerk of the wrists as I usually never fish with the hook buried in the worm. I'm always fishing the hook fully exposed or texposed if I can help it. For smallies that is all the time because I'm not around brush or vegetation. To my knowledge......I haven't missed a hookup yet. Now fishing for LM in vegetation is a different story when I have to hide the hook better.

My new "magic" rig
When is the 1/2 ounce size going to be available Brent?

Senko under a bobber
That sounds pretty sweet. See what happens when you think outside the box. I need to do that more as a fisherman.

Fat Ikas......Where to Purchase?
It is the clear poly bags with the stamped-on labeling. GYCB used these for decades until they changed bags last year. Brad Thats very very interesting. All of Dicks GYCB products are still in those bags. There very ugly and greasy lol. So Dicks must have a ton of old stock.

Favorite Shakey Head rig worm
Man I bet those roboworms that I have would work great as well. They are very very skinny. Too bad the cold weather is moving in up here. Bite has really slowed down. Can't really get into the creek that I fish either because its steelhead season and the Catt Creek is one of the best in the country for it. Therefore its flooded with anglers that are shall I say.......not very friendly. Crashing spots and just plain out fighting at points. Gets crazy down there. So I'm going to have to wait until late april, early may for the smallmouth run.

Favorite Shakey Head rig worm
No tourneys for me. I don't have the time or money for that. But I do like to fish slow and patiently so thats why this is right up my alley. Starting to come around on burning some spinnerbaits though. If anything I'm trying to be a better all around fisherman through different types of techniques.

I suck at using Shakey Heads
I have limited experience with them as well. But like I said in other treads. I pulled a nice 4lb PB smallmouth out using the technique. Still learning though. I used a gulp shakey worm in watermelon color on a 3/16th giggy head. Mainly been using this in my local creek in about 7 foot of water with shale and rocks on the bottom. I'm cautious on using this in the small ponds and lakes that I fish. The bottoms are pretty grassy and weedy. Not sure how well it would work in that junk. Probably not that great. But I'm going to give it a whirl at some point.

Favorite Shakey Head rig worm
Thanks Raul. This is one style that I really want to mess with. Finesse fishing is my type of fishing so a shakey head rig is perfect for my style. I thought it was neat that I saw a video on this rig and the guy had a beaver tail rigged on a shakey head jig. That was something that I never saw before. But I'm assuming it works well with that tail on the end.

gulp worm help
If its water with little to no vegetation than just go with a 2x straight hook in a 4/0 size. Do not rig it texas style with weight or burying the hook. Just put the worm straight on your hook until the worm touchs the knot past the end of your hook. Reel it in a couple of feet and let it sink for a couple of seconds. Repeat this procedure. If there is vegetation than of coarse tex-pose it again weightless. I usually use a 3/0 hook for the worms. I do not use a wide gap hook though with the berkley worms. There not that thick. Not too many times do I just reel it in at moderate speeds. I fish them slow with a stop and pause style. Pretty much fish it anyway you want as long as your not burning it. Berkleys line has always produced nice fish for me. Hence the avatar supporting them.

gulp worm help
Depends what worm your talking about. I like the shakey worms on a standup or shakey head rig. Produced some nice smallies for me. But if your talking a regular worm then I like to fish them weightless with a straight shank hook and let them drift down the current. For me there a smallie killer.

Favorite Shakey Head rig worm
Can I ask a question without sounding totally dumb. Like I said I fished the rig a bit last year and landed a nice 4lb smallmouth off of it. The water is a bit murky but I wanted to make sure the rig was working right. Probably in less than a foot of water I could see the rig sitting on the bottom. The tail was not floating however and it was just dangling from the hook in a downward...not updward position. Was this caused by the way I rigged it? Or just because the water wasn't as deep. Not a science man so maybe that has an effect? It was a gulp shakey worm by the way.
