  1. Lol it just happens sometimes. I posted something similar this month when my cousion in law caught a nice bass on a spider man kids pole and a crap spinnerbait. Sometimes I think we just try to hard. We just need to fish and not worry about the little things.
  2. Good stuff. I too have the habit of just bringing in a nice size fish too fast. I need to have confidence in my hooksets and tire them out a bit.
  3. This past year anyway....the crayfish are mostly a dark olive color. Thanks for the tip. Simple advice that can make a huge difference.
  4. Heard that somewhere as well. RW do you have any preference as far as the hair jigs go? Roadrunners? Or just a plain balljighead with a hair skirt?
  5. lol sounds like me. YOur going to like those giggy heads. Caught my PB smallmouth this year on a 3/16 with a watermeleon gulp shakey worm.
  6. Now I have some smaller jigs that I plan on using next year. But how big would you guys go up in jig size? The place that I fish that some of you have heard me speak about before is a nice size creek that flows into Erie. Smallmouth are huge that come up creek. They take 7" powerworms with ease. So I'm wondering if a nice size 3/8 jig or even a 1/2 could land me a monster. Just looking for different options besides tubes and powerworms. The creek has some nice flat rock and gravel bottoms that I think would be great to fish a jig and craw on.
  7. But 100% never happens. ;D Glad to here ya got going. Never thought to throw a carolina rigged plastic. Thanks for the idea.
  8. I'm getting that same 6735x for my new Avid spinning 68mxf rod. Heard nothing about good things about this rod at this pricing point. I have the Pflueger Trion ultralight reel on my ultra light rod and I'm very impressed with it. So I'm expecting some nice things from the President.
  9. From my understanding Megastrike is almost like a vaseline/petroleum type based stuff. It doesn't come off easy at all from what I have heard. Some people have said they can fish with a plastic for a week wtih the scent still on, if the plastic isn't all beat up. Again this is just what I have heard. I do plan on making a purchase before the spawn next year. I too don't usually believe in attractants but if it holds up as long as I heard, I would think it would be a great investment.
  10. LOL thats how I am with both LM and smallies. You know how certain cultures consider a cow holy? Well its that same kind of respect that I have for bass. Except I don't see them as holy considering that I'm a christian. ;D
  11. I thought I had it bad having only 5 options to fish. :'( Sorry to hear that man.
  12. Have fun......... Nothing beats fishing for smallies. Nothing......
  13. My dicks has a lot of there tubes on sale for 2.35. In the bargain bins though. Some tubes were not marked down. I picked up pumpkin/char laminate and watermeleon/copper/red flake. Excited to try them out for the spring time smallies coming up my local creek. The wait stinks!
  14. Never keep LM or SM bass. Its almost like a thing of respect between the fish and I. Weird I know. Never have kept blue-gill or pumpkinseed either. But I hear they are good eating. In the small lake that I fish, there are a good amount of brook and brown trout. I do keep the brookies because they re-stock them every spring for the purpose of taking and eating them. But bass IMO are off limits to me.
  15. Right on. I use to keep Oscars in my home. Awesome fish with great personalites. But they do get big and they do get aggressive if kept in small tanks with more than one oscar.
  16. Yes I'm a bitsy bug fan. I have been tipping them off with a zoom baby chunk trailer because the jig is a small jig.
  17. Okay, I understand what you are saying, but when the deck is stacked against you, I just think there are better alternatives to look for when choosing a place to fish. But he is seeing fish in the water. Again I wouldn't fish this place for hours on end 2-3 days a week. Myself I would fish this place for an hour once a week at different times with different lures. Again thats the competitor in me though. I like to prove people wrong. ;D
  18. No kidding? I use the #4 for northern pike. Never thought to give it a try for smallies.
  19. Haha road warrior that made me laugh so hard, nec237 i try another pond not worth it to waste ur time after u have tried all of those things and not catch a thing Some people like to fish for the challenge though as well. Thats why I recommend him not to give up on it. I just wouldn't spend a lot of time there. Like if somebody tells me there isn't any good fish in a body of water...........I fish it anyway for that challenge. I just don't spend time there as my main spot. That would be too frustrating.
  20. Yeah I posted this early last week. The second post just kind of bumped this back up. Actually they arrived in the mail yesterday for me. So there is no longer a link because the sale was over I believe on Saturday.
  21. Just started to get confident in my spinnerbaits again and was able to try a buzzbait for the first time. Question is.......How many of them are necessary to have in your tacklebox or lure selection? I have two spinnerbaits. One is a double willow the other is a single colorado blade. I also have one white 1/4 ounce buzzbait. Definately going to be picking up a Cavitron. Getting back into this sport after taking 12 years off is proving to be an expensive hobby. Probably have thrown down close to 800 dollars this year on restocking. Bait monkeys are horrid creatures. :'(
  22. Davis replied to KevO's topic in Fishing Reports
Try riggin up a senko/trick stick with a 3/0 EWG hook weightless and twich it around the surface. I had some luck with that setup the other day when they were bustin the surface. You had some nice choices though......sometimes they just want the "real" thing.
  23. Last time I checked they don't carry it. When I place my order for it, its going to have to go through cabelas.
  24. Brent sent me some of those in the 187 deal. Going to be using them definately. Actually already rigged one up last week to just see how it would look.
  25. What are your most productive jig trailers in your tackle bag/box. I have a few like Zoom chunks and Uncle Josh Pork Frogs but I'm looking into fitting my jigs with more of a selection.
