Anti-reverse off - Back reeling
Thanks David. I always appreciate your thoughts. I guess I should try it. Especially with my crappier reels. Isn't it harder to keep tight lines though? That could be why you say its an artform.

21 & 1/2 Inches on 1 Inch Grub
I don't know if they need one. See someone sees my point here and its not racist at all. On a sidenote there are some Amish that do fish for fun and release them. But a good amount take them home and some are questionably not "legal".

21 & 1/2 Inches on 1 Inch Grub
I hope that came out wrong... I don't know you but I can't think you meant it as it sounds. That's actually some of the most racist thinking I've ever seen posted here on BassResource.com. Fish were put here for our consumption. Recreational considerations were a few thousand years later. Lets at least give other people the benifit of the doubt. Not too many amish executives out there pulling 6 figure salaries, they might really need those fish for the table. They won't get all the fish, so use that pond/lake as a place to sharpen your skills. Surely you can outfish cane poles and worms? Maybe we should use cane poles and worms if they took all the "monsters" out... Is it a public lake? Maybe the Amish are mad at you for invading their favorite fishing spot.... they probably think you should go elsewhere, you throw them back, they need dinner. Just a thought. Its not being "racist". I wave to them all the time and actually carry on conversations with them. My point is that there pulling a ton of them out of this small lake. Like RW says, I don't fish there anymore because there is nothing of size there now. Mostly bullhead and bluegill. I don't hate the Amish, I just hate that they pull everything out of there and never catch and release. Believe me there not starving. Maybe my word usage came out wrong, and I apologize for that. Thats a big pet pieve of mine when people don't respect there fishery. The amish do just fine down in my parts. Probably make more money off there lumber than most people in the area. To call me a racist or suggest that I'm being racist is a little judgemental don't ya think? But as a fellow christian brother I ask that you forgive me because I did not mean for it to sound like it did. I'm far from a racist. The crappy thing is that you can't take boats out. Its only shore fishing. So you can't get deep for them fish. Anyway I hope ya see my point in some way. Stinks trying to type sometimes to try and get a point across.

Anti-reverse off - Back reeling
Okay one question here. I always have my anti-reverse in the "on" position. What is the purpose to turning it off? I know what the anti-reverse feature is and how it works. I just don't know anything about backreeling. What does the technique of backreeling really mean? I have seen some people talk about it but I can't for the life of me think of what it could be used for in a situation. Especially with a drag. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The WORST Feeling ever
I have the same feeling right now. My new Med X-fast action Avid came in yesterday. But I felt "dirty" just thinking about putting my crap Mitchel Outback reel on it. So until my Pfleuger President comes in, my Avid will remain "naked". I ended up going fishing and left it at home. Also another reseason was because it was raining and I didn't want it to get "wet". Talk about babying a rod lol. I will feel better when my President comes in. Yes I know its ridiculous.

Types of Sluggos
Sluggos.....man I think I have a kit of them somewhere back at my moms house when I was growing up there. Never really used them. But I think its time to make a phonecall and dig through that attic. Could be usefull not that the craze has worn off.

Bass On A Buzzbait
Very well wrote up article with some very helpful pointers in there. I have a buzzbait but I haven't used it once this year. Reading this article has helped me understand them more and I definately will try using it this fall. Thanks Matt!

Power Tube Baits
I don't know how there tubes are. But there grubs and 7" power worms in black/chart or motoroil are awesome on them. Throw them parallel to the shore and big bass kill em. Nothing but great luck with them.

New to bass fishing...did I make a good selection?
Translation: Ugly Sticks are not a good brand when it comes to Bass fishing. 8-)

Fishing line
Hey RW you know I'm going with this stuff on my new pfleuger president when I get it. But it comes with a second spool. So I want to put some heavier line on the second spool if I'm fishing the slop. Most likely 10lb. What is a good 10lb line that would cast decently and not come off the spool on my spinning reel?

21 & 1/2 Inches on 1 Inch Grub
Me too. Now I have nothing but respect for the Amish Community and there ways but come on!!!! Do you really need to take all the bass that you catch so your family can eat? Isn't corn and cabbage enough? Fortunately they fish with night crawlers most of the time so the bluegill are a pain for them. But the Amish pretty much have killed a small lake where I started fishing this year. I thought I was just sucking at fishing there but low and behold I went there own morning and there were about 10 lines out from the bank and all Amish fishing. People than told me that if you want LMB this isn't the place for them because the Amish fished all the monsters out. :'( Man that makes me mad. Especially when it could be a gem for LM fishing. Or there is the guys that go up to Zoar Valley at this one LMB pond that the DEC is getting back together. It is a Catch and Release Pond and people still take them out of there. Ticks me off. The only thing you can do is report it.

where and when
The second technique I use all the time. Works great.

Senko Rod
I have this matched with a chronarch 50mg... it's a dream. I'm spoiled to death and the wife hates the baitmonkey, but she still loves me so I win either way! B Tell me about it. The baitmonkey is hitting me hard! The wife keeps asking me...."Now this is it right?...No more?" I keep saying yes no more. But than I keep asking her if its okay to order this type because I need it for this situation. She says its better than me going out to the bar. I agree. Fishing is a great way to relax and unwind.

Seaguar, truly a trophy hunter's line
My Invizx came in last night with my new Trion GX Ultralight reel. 4lb test but I'm just using it for trout or panfish. Tried it out last night and really liked it. BUT I must have spooled more than 1/8th from the lip because it was falling off my spinning reel at FIRST. Than I cut a good chunk off and had no more problems. Good stuff with hardly ANY memory what so ever. I might add that for the price.......the Trion GX Micro reel is very nice as well. Had some fun with this setup while I was taking a break from fishing the weed beds.

where and when
Same thing was going on with me last night. Now I never usually do this ;D, but I T-rigged a greenpumpkin purple speckle trik stick from *** last night. Not sure of the correct name because it was a freebee. Anyway.............I rigged it weightless (love the hook slot Brent!) and was keeping it just a foot under the water while it did its scampering movement. I ended up with eight last night and I NEVER have luck T-riggin. Now maybe it will give me some more confidence on this style because usually I'm wacky worming it all the way with these baits. Babbling again I know............so if your a plastics man, than mix up your presentation a little bit to make it look like a wounded baitfish. Worked great for me.

New to Forum
Welcome from one of the few Yankees on this site. ;D

New PB(w/pics)!
Thanks for that. Going to check it out the next time the wife goes there for groceries. Like I said before. That would be great to walk the creek where smallies come out of Erie. Carrying just a pole instead of a pole and all that tackle would be a welcome change.

Smallmouth fishing in Virginia - need advice
I know you don't hear this often, but my big producer for smallies in the Catt Creek is a 7" power worm in motor oil or green pumpking color. Big smallies love em. Also a gulp shakey worm on a 3/16 giggy head produced my biggest smallmouth of the year at little over 4 lbs. Going to try some tubes next year but in all my years of smallie fishing they LOVE the power worm line. Never felt the need to try anything else even though a big go to bait are tubes.

In the pursuit of new fishing spots LOL
Man you sound like me lol. I have a good amount of spots already, but lately I have been wanting more since being stuck on shore. Find myself scanning the satellite images on my area for anything that looks like water lol. Than of coarse when I find something I have to research it to make sure its not posted. Unfortunately most of the time they are. :'( Two nice small resesivors (sp?) but they can't be touched. One is the villages water supply that only "village" workers can be around. The second is a nice body of water with a good amount of perch and LMB in it. Unfortunately somebody went swimming in it last year and drowned. So the village made it off limits. Again......... :'(

NEED ST CROIX HELP A.S.A.P
I don't know if its true but they recommend a ML fast action for most types of applications for smallmouth fishing on St Croix website. I would say go for it! If you don't like it. Just return it or ebay it.

Unadvertised sale on St. Croix Avid rods at dick's
Only the Avids are being marked down because of the new models that are coming in. From my research if you want premiers that are marked down than visit reeds outdoors store online. But the pickings are slim and they may already be sold out.

3:16 wake bait
no no no, im not that crazy the big ones are like 200 i got the baby wake which is only 45 bucks Man even I would have a tough time forking out for that around here. But we also don't get monster bass in our region. Living next to Erie, the only LMB that are around are in the local ponds and state owned ponds/small lakes. Smallmouths are definately king around these parts. BUT.........if I knew there were some monster bass in my waters than I probably could shell out 45 bucks for a lure. Man and I thought I was paying a lot for an Xrap lol.

What should I have done to catch these fish?
Agreed 100%. I was fishing a local pond with some swampy conditions on the other end. When I was walking back to my truck, a guy came walking down the path with an UL setup and a dragonfly lure on the end his rod. It definately was not a fly type lure. It looked like it was made for bass fishing. Should have asked him about it. But he says that he kills em with it.

"The Bass Pros" TV series by BPS
Putting this on my wish list. Maybe it will get me through the long winter months of snow and blowing. Sad time of year. The only reason that I would actually move down south. Fishing year round. 8-)
