  1. Good catch. I was out there for 1.5 hrs on Sunday and boated a 3lb'er give or take. Pics below. She SLAMMED a c-rigged worm of of one of the fingers. Holding close to cover and close to the bank. Maybe 4ft water if I had to guess. After that, hit it again Monday with TRE and caught nothing. Threw EVERYTHING at em to no avail. Not even a bite. I did catch a yellow perch however, and TRE caught a Crappie. :-/ The Tourneys are every other Sunday for the most part. The schedule can be found on the fountainheadbass site that SoccPlayr posted. My only advice would be this... If you can fish a tourney with someone who knows what they are doing, go for it, if not, you might want to look at the results pages of past tourneys and wait until you can come close to a 15-20lb bag somewhat consistently before you start throwing away your money. The rez can produce some good numbers, and heavy too, but if you don't know the rez, it will take a good amount of time before you really know what youre doing. This is speaking from experience and I still dont feel comfortable enough to fish the tourneys regularly. Once I start getting out there more often it will be another story as I have learned an awful lot in the 2yrs I have been fishing there. On another note, any of u local NoVA guys know someone with a cheap Jon boat and trailer for sale?
  2. I am visiting the area and will be staying right up the street from the Lake. I know nothing about the area/water. My uncle has a boat and I am not necessarily tied to that particular body of water but any advice that might help me land a hawg would be greatly appreciated .
  3. No prob TRE. Yeah, truth is he makes Charlie Moore look like Mary Tyler Moore! But unlike Ol' Charlie, TRE catches fish so cant complain. Best of luck on Friday Basser. I'll be down in Central Tex for a few days. I pray i get to go out and do some hawgin but it is supposed to be T-storms the entire time! Got my eye on this private pond out there! If I catch anything I'll post some pics... FAR away from the trespassing sign. LOL. J/K LBH.
  4. Feel the love! ;D Welcome NoVA. Myself and TRE fish the Rez with some consistency. Thats about it. Potomac when I can. There are a lot of non-boaters who are in the area. Check the forums from time to time. They should start posting heavy here soon. With the rain lately it's been slow out here. I'd be more than happy to hook up and fish the rez one of these days. Never had any real luck at Burke. Lake Brittle may be a ways out for you? They rent boats... not sure how the fishing is, been there once. Also, if you ever feel like taking a trip to Fredericksburg, Hunting Run just opened up last year, they have nice rentals, good numbers, etc... Wayne P. is the man to talk to if youre fishing out there, as he has mastered that water from what I can tell in less than a year.
  5. Andrew... You can still smoke your left handed cigarettes and fish at the same time. ;D SLOMOE... You were on the rez yesterday too? We probably passed eachother??? Same with Basser. So the day was def. slow. Pretty much no action whatsoever till about 10am, at which time we both managed a few misses. I lost my only taker when she got stuck behind some sticks. Sad part is that she felt like she very well may have been my biggest one yet. She was thrashin. Anyway, for the better news... TRE show'd me up again. I am glad someone on the team seems to be picking up their game and improving with every cast. He managed 2 decent 2+ lbers with a miss or two himself. If any of you get the chance to fish with him, he is sure to teach you something new, be careful though, he talks enough crap to make Charlie Moore shut his mouth!!! So the pics...
  6. Andrew, 2009 is halfway over! Pull yourself together bro and make it happen! Yeah it's been a tricky year with global cooling, rain as of late and all that. It's only the beginning tho. TRE and I promise to slay 'em tomorrow. We'll post-up afterwards. Anyone been out lately?
  7. Not since the 20th. Rained the whole time but fishing was decent.
  8. Wow NOVA, 100+ views and no responses. Tight lips! Anyways, I dont normally fish the Potomac but here is some info that you might find useful... The Potomac News publishes a weekly fishing report, every Friday. it can be found by going to http://www.insidenova.com At the SEARCH-bar (making sure SITE is selected) Type fishing reports, enter They should appear underneath the sponsored adds, in chronoligical order. The report will read as such... By CHARLIE TAYLOR Published: April 30, 2009 Potomac River Tide Informatio High Point, Occoquan River Day Date High Low High Low A.M. P.M. In most bodies of water, good fish are being caught. Patience and persistence is sometimes necessary, along with an understanding of what fish are doing during this season of the year. The better baits for bass are normally rattling crankbaits, small spinnerbaits and plastic worms and lizards. Topwater jerk baits are coming into their own as the water temperatures rise. POTOMAC RIVER - D.C.Bass are hitting plastic worms, grubs and jig 'n pigs, worked in and around the hydrilla beds from Blue Plains to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Dropoffs are also producing bass on deep-diving crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps, Chatterbaits and plastic baits. Channel catfish are hitting cut herring baits throughout the river, when fished on flats adjacent to deep water. Herring, white perch, catfish and stripers are thick around Fletcher's Boat House. Crappie are being found around submerged brushpiles in quiet waters throughout the region. Washington Channel, The Spoils, and Belle Haven Cove are producing good numbers. POTOMAC RIVER - BELOW WOODROW WILSON BRIDGEBass are actively feeding in the milfoil and hydrilla beds along both shorelines, from Broad Creek to Nanjemoy Creek. On low, outgoing tides, fish very shallow water with small, tight wobbling or lipless crankbaits. On incoming tides, shift to the extreme outside edge of the grassbeds and fish with jig 'n pig, Carolina-rigged plastic lizards or plastic worms. Use as slow a retrieve as possible or let the bait sit totally still. The bass will do the rest. Bass anglers are also being shocked by stripers, roaming the edges of the grassbeds, hitting bass lures. Rattling crankbaits are taking fish in swift moving tides, on points and steep-dropping banks. Top-water baits are taking some fish early and late in the day. Bass are beginning to move into the lily pads in the creeks. Spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and plastic worms are taking their toll here. Sunfish are spawning in the shallows, where Beetlespins, small spinners and flyrod poppers are irresistible. Yellow perch are thick on sand and gravel banks, and points. Small crankbaits and grubs produce well. Catfish are taking cut bait aggressively. Small, live white perch are also taking trophy catfish. OCCOQUAN RIVERCrappie fishing is good with small jigs and live minnows being the more successful baits. Catfish are taking clam snouts and cut herring throughout the river, at all times of day and night. Bass action is fair. Some fish are being taken from the back end of the river, among the rocks. Plenty of stripers are present in the river. Rattling crankbaits and cut herring are the preferred baits. OCCOQUAN RESERVOIRBest action on bass has been on plastic worms and crankbaits, fished along the rock walls, on main lake points and in the coves. Catfish are taking clam snouts, cut bait and chicken livers. Crappie action is holding up well. Some citation fish are being caught. BURKE LAKECrappie are thick and biting well. Shellcrackers are taking nightcrawlers and crickets. Bass are hitting plastic worms, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits in shallow water, near vegetation. Catfish are biting well on cut bait. FARM PONDSBass are roaming the shallows in most ponds. Plastic worms, Rapalas and flyrod poppers are taking some good fish. Sunfish and crappie are also biting well on small jigs, Beetlespins and flyrod poppers. POTOMAC RIVER - UPPERSmallmouth bass are taking very small baits, fished slowly along the grass beds on the edge of the river. Small crankbaits, spinners, plastic grubs and top water baits are doing the trick. Flyrodders should use small poppers and woolybuggers in black and dark chartreuse. Good bass action can sometimes be found below the weed beds where the carp are rolling. As the carp roll in the beds, they dislodge insects and crustaceans, which are washed downstream by the current. Smallmouth have learned to station themselves downstream and wait for the bounty. Catfish action is good and bluegills are starting to take baits. The larger bluegills are loaded with eggs and will bite aggressively. Crappie are spawning at the mouths of the feeder creeks, with 1-2# fish not uncommon......... The report covers a lot more water but the above covers your question on the Potomac. The info is pretty general and a little opinionated when it comes to lure selection but should give you an idea where the general migration of the fish are. Hope that helps.
  9. Does the 7'6" rod telescope like many? I was looking at one BPS online and couldn't tell.
  10. Yeah those were my thoughts... A day on the lake, would be awesome, or maybe he has family/friends who live on the res?
  11. I too am game. What body of water are we talking?
  12. So I wanted a Falcon Lowrider XG, but I cant get one fast enough. I am looking at buying a rod from Dicks and was hoping to find something very comparable. I am comparing weight, sensitivity, and overall quality. Dicks here is pretty limited. St Croix's and maybe a G. Loomis or two. I like the Falcon XG and want something as good or better for $150 or less. Thanks for the help!
  13. Yeah the last one came up as 4+ on an awful scale. I am guessing 5+. Regulation ruler said 4 3/4 I think but she was a little fat. I dont know if Rick Clunn was there? Either that or the game wardens played a great joke.
  14. So we were out there and the warden stopped us. Said Rick Clunn was fishing there? Even heard someone yell his name. Not sure what the deal was. Anyways, Partner and I went out 4/6/09 (I know, late post)... anyway, went out and caught a 16-18lb bag. Big fish in the 4-5lb range (cheap scale) Props to my partner T.R. Express. he pulled his weight and then some. Beautiful day, good fish'n. Heres the highlights (bag being 6 fish total)
  15. Hoping to head out there again Monday. Anyone been out there lately? I am wondering what the water temps are like, clarity, and any other helpful/relevant info.
  16. Thanks for the help. Mass, might I ask where you bought it and how much you payed?
  17. I was looking at buying the 798, I have several questions, they have a 798C SI and a 798 CI SI, I believe the CI has an internal antenna, and the C does not, does anyone know for sure, and what is the benefit of one over the other? Also, I am a novice by all means, I fish a 2200 acre Rez, and rarely do local tournaments, but I need a decent fishfinder and I figured why not go for it and get the SI. Does anyone see any pros/cons to spending so much for a novice angler fishing a fairly small body of water non-competitively? Also any advice on temporary mounting the transducer would be very helpful

  19. Anyone fish the Occ Rez lately? I am about to go out for the 1st time this year on Monday and was hoping to get a status report and maybe a tip or two. I think there is a tourney next week... I don't really fish the tourneys but if you want to keep things confidential you can just PM. Thanks for any help in advance.
  20. Everyone's excited, weather is warming, that good bite is about on. What is your favorite bait to throw at those pre-spawn beauties? (You may choose more than 1)
  21. Nothing real special. Got a few lures and a 7'6" Medium Heavy Woo Daves Flippin Stick. My fishing partner got a new rod too, was going to get a carrot stix but opt'ed for something more practical and got an AG Skeet Reese Revo that he fit on his new rod, as well as a gang of tackle. I been jonesin' since the last time I was out months ago though so really the new toys are just an excuse to do what I love. Santa bring you any new toys this year? I think we are going to fire up the outboard and hit the Rez. Burke lake is just too unfamiliar to me and given that it is January, I at least would like to have confidence that i am going to catch a fish when I am freezing my butt off.
  22. I do have a key to bull run. Any tips on which one to go for or where to fish?
  23. So I am thinking of hitting the water Monday to play with some new toys and I don't know whether to go tu Burke, or the Rez. I am no good at fishing in the winter, I think Burke is probably better as the water should be more clear and I hear they have some nice brushpiles that hold, but I dont really fish Burke and will be out of my comfort zone. I am pretty familiar with the rez and would likely head up-river, but I think the clarity will suck. Anyone with some insight as to which choice is better or maybe some spots and presentations to fish plz post or PM me. Thanks.
  24. I am a novice bass fisherman. I have been getting more into it and have a couple of nice rods. How do I replace eyelits. What is a nice kit. Ny tips and help is much appreciated.
  25. The Facilities are there, but not permanent. See my platest post under Hunting Run, rental prices are there. I would definately try and make a hunting run trip. The Rez is always good for me too. I can rent at both places.
