I got out there Monday also. Only a few hours, with the wife, and it was very windy, so fishing was tough to do. Anyways, Each caught a dink and missed about a dozen. Hooks too big. Bigger fish were on the offshore structure but all the visible spots were crowded and no fishfinder on the rentals. Rentals are $6 an hour with motor and battery, not bad, for a minimum of $18/3 hours. This is non-resident county pricing. The motors are nice. 12V 54# thrust. It is all flat and mostly open fields so the wind kills you.
  2. I am interested in seeing the results. I have read about a good bit about BC and thought about checking it out more than once, but always chose to stick with what I am familiar with. Do they rent boats? Anyways, good luck to all of you. I will be out at hunting run. Time to call it a night I guess.
  3. There is a good article I read on this site about removing hooks from gut hooked fish, etc. I havent been able to find it again yet, but I will PM you if I do. My other advice would be this... Invest in a good filet knife. Bon Appetit!
  4. I am 99% sure that a VA license will do. I have fished there with clubs and no one ever mentioned that I needed a MD license.

I'll be giving it my second go round tomorrow. A little more time on the water so hopefully I can put together a pattern this time. I will be dragging the wife along so hopefully we can catch some fish. I'll let you know how we fair.
  6. 50 - I don't ever see many posts here from MS, so you might not get much help, I did do a little research though and this is what I came up with: http://www.mississippigameandfish.com/fishing/bass-fishing/ms_aa083003a/index.html - This article seems to deal with bass fishing in that area, lots of good info, and mentions Tunica numerous times. You might even try contacting the Author for more info. http://www.catfish1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69170 - It is a catfishing website, but ask your question on that same post that deals with Tunica, and I'd be suprised if you didn't get back some valuable info. If nothing else they might be able to direct you to a site that might help. Also, try getting in touch with a local club, or guide, you'll have to learn to sift thru the BS and find the truth. I think the first article should help alot. It will give you an idea as to where you might concentrate location wise. After that, all you have to do is nail down a pattern. Pre-fish! Good luck, let us know the results.
  7. In what manner do you plan on presenting this?

Good luck out there Wayne. And thanks for the tips out there @ Hunting Run.
  9. With more rain forecast'd, it will get worse b4 it gets better. I'd imagine with a handful of sunny, and non-windy days, it will be back to normal... plus a few feet.
  10. G-Rod, I may be wrong, but I believe water skiing is prohibited on the rez. Just for future reference. I'd hate to see John Law get ya.
  11. A C-rigged buzzbait huh? It's d@mn near illegal to reveal that long kept secret! Dont forget the old crankbait on a bobber, go-to bait.
  12. Everyone says you have to go uplake on the rez to really pull 'em. How far upstream are we talking. I have yet to fish beyond the BR marina. Anyone have any insight on this? As far as the tourneys go... I saw guys tying fish to stumps out there just to win a tourney the next day! JK, not really tho. I will agree that it is some serious fishing these guys do. I've looked at the fountainheadbassclub webite and to pull a limit like they are pulling, is beyond me :-?

Yeah, its a fairly new site, 3yrs old. A great idea, all it needs is a few of us to frequent it every now and then and it maybe we can breathe some life into it. I mean the VA guys more or less claimed this section of this forum. Lots of fisherman in VA Anyhow, I am going to launch a site in a year or so and when I do, it will be quite nice. Hopefully by then I will be living near Lake Fork, TX It will be nice.

Wayne thanks for the report. I will let you know if I have any luck. Those are some good comprehensive reports on the other site. Thanks for the heads-up. Ron, I agree, rain may throw a wrench in the excitement, then again it might put the fish in a feeding frenzy... we'll just have to see.
  15. I am heading out to Hunting Run for the first time tomorrow. I was hoping to get as much info as possible, since I know little about it. I will be fishing it with my little brother who doesn't really fish so I would like to put some hawgs on the end of his line. You can PM me if you'd rather not make this public knowledge. Also, any basic info always helps, water clarity, temps, where the fish are in the spawn cycle... I will be fishing right after all this rain so that could help or hurt, we'll see I guess. Thanks for any help guys.
  16. Well then I guess there must be carp in the rez. All I know is that I have seen cats splashing, and if you look @ the bank in these coves where you are seeing so much action, you will notice the holes dug in the mud at the water line. I have known these as catfish nests, where they lay their eggs. I dont think carp dig holes, but then again, I know nothing about carp.
  17. Good lookin fish G-Rod. The dead shad is a normal thing. It seems to happen many places around this time of the year. I think it relates to the shad spawn somehow. I read that during spawn and other times, the population can get so thick that they deplete the water of oxygen and kill themselves. I'd believe that, as I have seen them thick as thieves lately on the rez. Also, they dont do well in water under 60*F and with the weather back and forth that probably makes it harder on them also. regardless od what causes it, it is almost definately a natural occurence, since it happens all over the place, during similar times and conditions. I don't think it affects the bass much if any.
  18. Whats this "Bass Holes" fishing club? Is there a Northern Virginia Chapter? Sounds like my kinda club. Can anyone tell me how to become a card carrying, cer-t-fied bass hole?
  19. JCrzy, Almost certainly was a Cat, not a Carp. I have never heard of Carp in this body, and I fish it constantly. Also, no Carp listed on VDGIF. I was out 4/18 - 4/20 and saw tons of Cats rolling and splashing tail in the backs of coves. Caught a decent nice bass mostly relating to wood.
  20. How do I know where the Bass are at in the spawn cycle? Also the shad and bluegill. Specifically I fish the Occ Reservoir in NoVA, that info would help too, but moreso, I am hoping to understand how to spot the spawn cycles, patterns, and how to use them to my advantage.
  21. Anyone fished the Rez lately? I was out there a while today and landed 2, my buddy none. I landed a decent 2 1/2 lber and a smaller 1+. Anyways, I was hoping someone might help me put a pattern of some sort down or just trade tips. I always walk out of there with fish, just wish I could double the numbers. I've got one type of bait that has landed me and my buddy 90% of our fish there. Also, does up past bull run produce? How far up are we talking? Hoping to make this year better than the last, I'd appreciate any help I could get.
  22. J, Long time Hoss. I'd love to fish the James. If I can make it, I will plan on driving down myself. 71 - Last time I was out that way, I fished the boulders and got good word that Zee Dam is a great place to catch smallies. Not 100% but I believe The Zee Dam is just upstream from the boulders. Dude said the catch rate is unbelievable up that ways. If you do check it out, PM me and let me know how it goes.
  23. bassmaster6, I have heard that 55in is about the minimum width for decking a v-hull, although I can't personally tell you for sure. As for the transom mount troller, Cabela's sells a mount for this. You can probably find it online, if not, let me know and I will get you the specifics when I have them handy.
  24. I live in Northern Virginia. Can anyone give me an idea of where to buy aluminum angle at the best price? Any other money saving tips would be great. We need to buy some Olive Drab paint this week. Thanks -Josh
  25. Good point on standing on the benches and the extra weight adding stability also. I certainly will take lots of pictures. Thanks for all the help.
