Eagle Cuda 168 Portable Fish Finder
I think it's probably one of your best choices. I have an Eagle (500c) on my jon boat and it has worked flawlessly. Eagle makes great stuff.

Run the cable from your unit up thru the coiled TM cable. Zip tie the transducer cable to the TM shaft near the then again a little ways down - but above the pivot point. Then leave it free. Zip tie it again to a small hole you drill thru the fin on the topside of the motor itself. That big free loop is neceesary to let the motor turn. Make sure you don't pinth the cable when you riase the motors. Otherwise, this has worked very well for me.- Shielded bearings versus treated bearings
I would say your making to much out of this. Service your reel as recommended. Probably. Thanks for the clarification.- Who has a Chronarch Mg?
Shimano's A-RB bearings aren't shielded they are open for easy flushing. The Curado' use a stock ABEC3 shielded stainless steel bearing. Actually sealed bearings are preferred for salt water.Tight Lines!!! Thanks. I started a new thread. maybe you can offer some more insight into this issue.- Shielded bearings versus treated bearings
This has no doubt been covered before. But let's do it again I'm interested in knowing more about Daiwa's CRBB and Super-CRBB, Shimano's A-RB and shielded stainless steel ball bearings. My Curado 200 DHSVs apparently have shielded stainless steel ball bearings. These reels were recommended to me as being suitable (with proper care) for brackish waters. The bearings in these reels are apparently not treated, but rather standard stainless steel bearings in a shielded design. I understand that shielded designs are preferred for saltwater. Many other Shimano reels have Anti-Rust bearings (A-RB). Are these open designs? (Since I don't have any Shimanos with A-RBs, I can't check). Daiwa's CRBB bearings are shielded, whereas their Super-CRBB are treated and shielded? It's all very confusing. The TackleYour article http://www.tackletour.com/articlebearings201.html offers some insight, but not enough. Is there a best design? Is there a preferred type for brackish water? Any thoughts or clarification would be appreciated.- Who has a Chronarch Mg?
Aren't Shimano's A-RB bearings "open bearings" whereas the the Curados are shielded? IIRC, shielded bearings are preferred for saltwater. According to Tackletour, shielded stainless bearings are 12 times more corrosion resistant than normal stainless bearings. According to them, Daiwa's CRBB are shield designs, not treated. And treated stainless, like in Diawas (Super CRBB) and Shimanos with A-RB bearing are 10 times more corrosion resistant than normal stainless bearings. It's all very confusing. Maybe Reelmech will chime in. Let's start a new thread on bearings.- Who has a Chronarch Mg?
But don't the Curado Ds have shielded stainless steel bearings? Curado Ds certainly are marketed, in part, to the inshore crowd.- Who has a Chronarch Mg?
That's what I'm afraid of, Raul. I really like the Chronarch Mg. Sweet reel and feather lite. But I really want a light reel I can use on my tidal creeks without too much worry. I think I'm going to just go with another Curado - a 100 this time.- Coming up on 8000 posts.
The rest of us did. ;D- Who has a Chronarch Mg?
One of my favorite creeks is a tidal creek that has become a wee bit salty due to the drought. I expect it will remain that way until we start geting substantial or regular rain. It wouldn't call it brackish, but you can taste a little salt in it. I don't mind breaking reels down to clean them. That woudln't be the issue. I'm just wondering how Mg will do in this type of water. I'm wondering if I should stick to a tried-and-true Revo, or get a Curado 100D, or if a Chronarch Mg would be OK. (I've got enough Revos, I really want another Shimano).- Who has a Chronarch Mg?
The Chonarch Mg is the same size as the Curado 100. I don't know what the 50 means.- Who here likes to read?
I read a lot of history. When I want to feel inspired, I read Lincoln: Selected Speeches and Writings. Otherwise, I like to read books about WWII, particulary the airwar. Some of my favorites: To Win The Winter Sky (about the airwar over the Ardennes) Six Months To Oblivion (about the destruction of the German airforce in WWII) Bloody Shambles (about the airwar over the Malaya, Sumatra, etc) The First Team (about the naval airwar in the Pacific during the first year of WWII) I don't read a lot of fiction (haven't read any in years)- Who has a Chronarch Mg?
RW, that's the one I'm going to go with. I'd like to pair it up to a Crucial - CRCC66M 6'6' medium/medium-fast.- Who has a Chronarch Mg?
I want to get a light Mg reel for casting lighter topwaters and maybe lighter crankbaits. I know the Chronarch is a little fast for these - but that doesn't bother me too much, I like fast reels. How is the Chronarch Mg? How does it handle light lures? Anyone have one that can comment?- Curado, what's with all the play?
My Curado 200 DHSVs don't have a lot of back play. But they have a lot more than my Revos. It hasn't hurt performance any.- All Star ASR rod - under $100??
I try not to pay too much attention to the techniques All Star gives their rods. I have three 806s (6'8" MH/F), one is a TAS IM 10 and the other two are American Classics. These are "supposed" to be spinnerbait rods. I use them for that, among other things. I mainly use them for heavier plastics. I've also used them for swimbaits and occassionally frogs/toads. It's a very versatile rod.- All Star ASR rod - under $100??
I don't care that they are made in China. I've got a lot of good rods made there (Brownings, Fenwick HMGs & HMX, BPS). I was just suprised that the price on the ASR was as low as it is. I was expecting in the $150 range.- Top of the line BPS rods vs. the name brand rods?
Johnny Morris Elite and Signature rods are very good, indeed. Loomis and St. Croix owners may never admit it, but more objective sources say the Elite and Signature rods compare well to the best Loomis and St. Croix rods.- Durability of Mg reels
Now that they've been on the market for awhile, any thoughts on the long term durability of Mg reels? The Core really interests me but I wonder how long it will last.- How to Fight your States Division of Wildlife
I've got the highest regard for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. These guys and girls are out there everyday looking out for our public lands, enforcing games laws, and protecting the rights of hunters. This is Krista. She's an enforcement officer that patrols, among other places, Chickahominy Wildlife Management Area, where I frequently hunt and fish. I feel really good when I see her truck cruising around the area.- What is your drink?
Fruity drink. If you are from Appalachia, you know what that is. Seriously, though. I can't stomach moonshine. I really haven't consumed alcohol in years.- What are your fears or phobias?
I trust these more than most people. Now that's scary. Getting locked in a box where I can't move. I can't even think about it.- Pictures of my unborn son
Looks just like the mail man! Only kidding! Great looking kid!!!! Congrats. - FF Mounting
