Fishing heavy cover - braid vs. heavy mono
I agree. I've still got braid on a couple of rigs, but it's going to come off before spring. I don't like fluoro either. IMHO, there has been nothing invented that really exceeds mono for all-around fishability. It's durable (enough), cheap (can respool often), and isn't hard on equipment.

Not my idea of a good time but hey, if you got the $$$....................go for it. : LMAO. ;D It's a spectator sport.

Bigfoot real?
Here's the other "bigfoot" picture that made the news. Funny looking feet for a "bigfoot." Looks quite like an emaciated bear to me.

Mattlures Shad
Green Top rocks. I buy the vast majority of my stuff from them. I'll definately pick some up from them when they get some.

Revo Premier
SHWEET! Pretty rod, reel and fish! BTW (don't want to get off topic, but), how are Yo-Zuri lures? Seen 'em, but never bought one.

Hula Poopers, Heddon Torpedos, Devil's Horses
I'll have to give them a try. I've had some of them for 10+ years and they are just dead weight in my tackle bags. I'm going to have to put them to use.

Hula Poopers, Heddon Torpedos, Devil's Horses
I've got a few old Hula Poppers with skirts that are getting a little crisp. There is no saving those. But what do you do to preserve the skirts if they are still in good shape? Nothing? I'm going to have to come up with something creative for a couple of my hulas that have bad skirts. They are just pressed onto a peg on the rear of the lure. Maybe we can make a fortune by inventing some soft plastic frog legs to stick on that peg.

Hula Poopers, Heddon Torpedos, Devil's Horses
I seem to have a bunch of Arbogast Hula Poppers, Heddon Torpedos, and Smithwick Devil's Horses. But I hardly ever fish them. I was going through my tackle and wondering why I even have them. I bought them years ago and can't remember the last time I tried one. Does anyone fish these lures? Do they produce? Edit: And I have a couple of Arbogast Sputterbuzzes, too.

Recreational Angler vs. Competitive
My job is too competitive for me to want to be competitive on the water. Also, I like to start and stop when I please, try things that might not work, and sometimes lay down the rod and pick up the camera and take some pictures of birds and such. Once fishing become competitive, it will lose its fun for me.

$100 b/c reel
For $100, I'd definately go with the Citica over the Revo S. It's easier to access the brake on the Citica.

BPS JohnnyMorris Rods on sale/recoil guides good?
I have a JM Elite with Recoil guides - 7' MH/F. The rod is the most sensitive I own. I haven't caught a lot of fish with it, or fished with it as much as some of my others, but so far I am very impressed with it. My intent is to use if exclusively for weighted plastics, like shakey-heads. I have my Revo STX on it with 12# Yo-Zuri hybrid line. I won't use braid with it. The guides are fine - no issues yet. I'm not sure they save any significant weight over conventional guides. But the rod is super sensitive and the manufacturer claims the guides have something to do with that.

BPS Extreme XPS
Yeah, you have to go to the customer service desk and ask for the internet price. They'll give you a ticket to take to the check-out line.

Curado or Revo STX high speed?
A Curado D for $129 is an awesome. Maybe I'll pick up another. I do think Abu and the Revo has been hitting Shimano in the pocket book. When you can get great reels for $129, its good for everyone.

Bigfoot real?
Don't have very big feet like a bigfoot. The feet look decidedly - bearlike. So do it's babies:

x-shad
I'm glad they work. I bought 4 but haven't used them yet. About the X-Rap (with dressed tail hook): in early spring I like to crank it. It's got a good action - like a lazy swimming minnow. It's killer on pickerel, if you like pickerel (I do).

BPS Extreme XPS
They've been running that sale since the end of summer. Extremes are good rods. The reel seats are especially good. $65 is a great price.

Re: Greenback cutthroat trout
That's a Brook Trout here.

Set-up for jigs, crankbaits, and heavy spinners...
Looks like someone stayed logged in to the website, or someone got his account hacked. I doubt that was actually Bass109.

Recoil Guides and Braided Line
I saw these photos on another site. Recoil Guides grooved by braided line. I thought they were interesting. I've got one rod with recoil guides. I use Yo-Zuri hybrid with it. I guess using braid isn't such a good idea. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p162/DRinVA/recoil2.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p162/DRinVA/recoil3.jpg

rod and reel combo
All Star American Classic AC SBR2 - 6'8" medium Heavy/Fast action. Fantastic rod, great looking, Fuji reel seat and Fuji aluminum oxide guides. This rod is very sensitive and tough as nails. MADE IN THE USA (Texas). About $90. The AC SBR2 is specified as a spinner bait rod, but I use it as an all around rod for spinnerbaits, plastics, jigs, even swim baits and occassionally frogs. http://www.allstarrods.com/as_amerclassic.html I have 7 All Star rods and the American Classics are my go-to rods. They get most of the use, and abuse, and just keep going. Great rod, great value.

Curado or Revo STX high speed?
I've been messing around with them a little more since my last post. The STX is great at casting lighter stuff. I can get a little better distance with it than I can with the Curado 200 DHSVs. The only baitcast reels I have that will outcast my Revos with light stuff are my Abu Garcia EXT Pros. I can't get over what an improvement the Revo is over Abu's older low-profile reels. I stopped by a local tackle store today and they had a few new (discontinued) Abu Garcia 2005 LPs for sale. Of course I couldn't take them apart, but the fit and finish compared to the Revos was atrocious. I can see why people that know these older Abu low profiles may not trust the Revos. The brake on the Curado is just plain better. It's the best brake I've ever experienced on any reel. I ended up putting one of my Curados on my 7'6" H/EF flipping rod, and the other on my 7' MH/F that I like to use for frogs. I think these reels will excel in these applications. I can't imagine a reel better than the Curado D. If the higher end Shimanos are better, they must be very good, indeed. I'm still in awe over what an improvement the new Curado D is over my old Curado BSF. Like night and day. They fixed everything I hated about the BSF. Inside, the reel is built like a swiss-watch. I've got an arsenal of Abus. I think I'm going to start increasing my Shimano holdings now.
