Flipping and Pitching from the bank, any success?
Sometimes it's the only way you can fish from a bank. One of the lakes I bank fish pretty much all you can do is drop baits through holes in the brush. Casting is out of the question.

I can't find a crankbait rod - help!
Yesterday I looked at a Berkely Cobalt rod. Impressive looking rod. This model was 8 feet long, and rated for 1/2oz to 1 1/2 oz lures. Power was a medium, and the action felt like a medium or medium fast. It had blue titanium/stainless guides. I looked it up a few minutes ago on Berkleys site and it is apparently an inshore rod. The guides are Pacific Bay TiBlue guides - titanium over stainless. The cork was very nice (nicer than I've sen on more expensive rods). It looks like it would make a good heavy crank bait rod. It was $90.

Weight limit for Daiwa Zillion reels.
What RM said. I just don't see it either. Nevertheless, if you are going to have a dedicated big bait reel, why not a Daiwa Luna, Shimano Calcutta or an Ambassadeur?

Weight limit for Daiwa Zillion reels.
I dunno, but people over at Tackle Tour are using the Zillion High Power to throw big swimbaits. How big of a bait do you want to throw? I don't think the Zillion is any more delicate than any other low profile in its class.

Mercury outboard smoke and fuel leak?
I have a 2008 Mercury 15 hp 4 stroke that will smoke when it first starts after having sat for a time without running. It will soon clear up as soon as I push the choke in. My old 9.9 Merc did the same thing, and my buddy's 25 hp does it too. Sounds normal to me. I bet once it has been run for awhile, it till stop.

There is no one good spot. The whole lake is good. Fish along weedlines and lilies close to weedlines. I didn't catch much in the lilies out in open water or around cypress trees. Throw your lure into pockets in the weedline and along the lilies. There is not a whole lot of assessible hard shoreline. There is some on the southside of the lake, and some up the creeks near the campground. These can be productive, too. There is usually deeper water near this hard shorline.

Bass Pro Shop surprise
I was in BPS today. I was just perusing the rods and walked past the rack that had the All Stars. Along with a bunch of GT40X rods, there are three sad looking Team All Stars that have been sitting there for two years now. Everytime I go, there are in the same spot. Today, I noticed a 4th Team All Star. This one didn't have the handle wrapped in plastic like the others. In fact, there was only a price tag hanging from it. I picked it up and the grip was turning black. You know how cork gets after it starts getting fish slime on it. There was also a nice quantity of dried blood on the grip, too. I carried it over to the counter and handed it to the man behind the counter and told him this was an obviously well-used return they stuck back on the rack. They might at least wipe the dried blood off it first before putting in a sales rack. Nice.

Sabille magic swimmer
I have some of the small ones and the mid sized one. I like them, too. They do look good in the water. I usually just cast them and retrieve them with a steady, medium speed retrieve. This keeps them under the surface (I use the slow sink), and imparts a good action. I will occassionally stop them for a second or two and the start the retrieve again. This works well over weeds. I also jerk them, but not as frantically as a jerkbait, because I've noticed they tend to turn around on themselves and get tangled. Not too much, but enough to be annoying at times. It does this more if you use a clip instead of tieing directly to the split ring.

The Human Body
Well, now you've gotten me all worked up. Where do you measure from? The first knuckle, or where the thumb connects to the hand? BTW, when I get past this one, I'll read the rest of them.

That thumb thing is rather troublesome. Do you have a source for that? >

Daiwa Viento
This reel is intriguing to me, too. I have a few Daiwas and love them. But I don't have a Viento. I think the twitching bar is a gimmick. But from what I understand, it is otherwise an excellent reel. I understand it handles light baits very well. I'm interested in hearing some opinions on this reel.

The hook is an Owner Twist Lock, 4/0, with a 1/8 oz weight. All I do is cast and slow, steady retrieve.

Re: What rod $100 - $150 to match with Revo SX?
The Revo SX is a fine reel. You made a good choice. You didn't say what length, power or action you are looking for. Nevertheless, I'd recommend the Fenwick HMG line. They run about $120 on average. That are light, extremely sensitive and very tough. Very comparable in to the St. Croix Avid line of rods, but less expensive. They have a lifetime warranty.

Chickahominy Reservoir - 5/12/09
I went back out again today. Did just as good as yesterday. I post a few new pics in the thread-link above. I'm not fishing tomorrow. I want to go see the new Star Trek movie.

Yes, Ed's rents boats. They rent jons with both 6hp gas motors and electric trolling motors. The lake can be fished by canoe, but IMO a gas powered jon is better if you launch from Ed's main ramp. It's a relatively big lake, by eastern Virginia standards. If possible, I wouldn't launch a canoe out of Eds main boat ramp since you'd have to paddle so far to get to the good spots. I would go to the campground and launch right into Johnson creek. There's a ramp there, and I've seen campers launch there. They will probably charge you a launch fee to put out there. That's OK, though. Launching there would put you in one of the best spots on the lake. It is VERY canoeable if you put out there.

A shameless plug for Rage Tail Baits
It's shameful. They ought to be banned. It's like fishing with dynamite. A smattering of today's haul... Bass Bass Bass Bass Bass Bass Bass Bass These lures seem to work exceptionally well in my lake. This particular lake has water clarity like a bottle of Yoohoo. The water looks like chocolate milk. Visibility is only about a foot or two in the creeks, more on the main body. The water also gets severe algea that seems to settle a foot or two under the surface. I need a lure that has a lot of action, and can be worked in the top two feet of water. Weedless is mandatory. The Space Monkey fills the bill better than any other plastic I've tried to date. As I was trailering today, another fisherman asked me if I had any luck. He had been throwing cranks and topwaters, lamenting all the snot he pulled up on each cast. (Parts of this lake are not treble hook friendly.) I gave him my last 3 Space Monkeys in Watermelon/Red Flake, and a pack of Owner hooks. Hopefully, they'll bring him some luck, too. And to the people saying the lake is beautiful - thank you - I agree. It's a very typical southern lake . We just don't have any alligators. But the scenery is spectacular. Here is a nice little cove I like to pull into and eat lunch. Nice little cove
