Fish Identification
If you own a pond producing fish like that, you are very lucky, indeed. That's a very nice looking bass.

Couple more cranks.....
That's some mighty fine work!

Space Monkey Surprise
The Space Monkey is my most consistent producer of quality bass that I've used this year. It has accounted for my biggest of the year (a little over 5lbs) and the most of any single lure I've used. I've found it to be an extremely versatile lure. You can fish it fast, slow, on the surface, down deep, and anywhere in between, in weeds or open water. An excellent bait. The other bait that has done well for me this year is the 7" Anaconda. I've fished this bait next to the Swim Senko. I've had a rod rigged with a red shad colored swim senko and another rod rigged with a red shad colored anaconda. The anaconda caught more fish. In fact, I made followup casts into spots where I sent the senko with no result and caught fish on the anaconda.

Black Bass in PNG - Great Experience!!!
Man, what a cool place to fish. I've always wanted to go to PNG. Mainly because of my interest in WWII history. But the fishing must be incredible. That fish reminds me of a snapper. Are they good to eat?

centrifugal or magnetic, which do you prefer and why
You'll wait 'til tomorrow when I'm at work to respond. ;D

centrifugal or magnetic, which do you prefer and why
Would you really have us believe that is the perfect setting under all circumstances and with all lures. Heck, why even make a 6-pin then. Just make a 2 pin and have them on all the time. Or that might be too Abu'y for some. Like I said, do it that way. No reason you can't do the same with a mag brake.
-
centrifugal or magnetic, which do you prefer and why
The "six-pin crowd" will show up here any minute to tell you that centrifugal is best. "All you have to do is set it and forget it." So, let me counter by saying, you can do that with a magnetic brake, too. People say all you have to do with a centrifugal brake is set it and forget it. I say under normal fishing conditions that's all you can do. Unless you appeal to having to open your side plate and play with little weights on pins on a boat with wet or sticky hands. But when you set it and forget it, all you've done is pick some compromise setting that handles a wide range of lures reasonably well, but hardly any optimally. Nothing that says you can't do this with a magnetic brake. But a magnetic brake at least gives you the option of fine tuning your reel to a specific bait without opening your reel when you do change baits.

Very sad, indeed. Lubina never posted a lot, but always had something good to say when he did. Man, I will miss him.

Where can i guy yo zuri ultra soft line online?
Wow, Kent, that place looks great! I couldn't find any of the deep diving 3D cranks anywhere - until now. And their prices on 600 yard spool of Hybrid are fantastic. I'll be placing an order tonight. Is this a new sponsor?

50 Amp Breaker for 12v trolling motor
50a is fine. I have a 55# thrust 12v bow mount and use a 50a circuit breaker. Its max amp draw is just under 50 amps. So a 52# will be even less. 50a is perfect. It was break sooner than a 60a in case of a problem and still allow you to develope full power.

where did the weeds go?
Where could the weeds have possibly gone in one day? I think you went to a different lake.

i know i know
Or you can step up from a Curado and buy a Revo SX. It's a tough, smooth reel that casts like a champ. However, I agree with the Daiwa comments. That's what I would go for. A Daiwa Advantage HSTA is a great choice. Or you can find a Daiwa Fuego on sale. I got my Fuegos for $149 ($100 off MSRP). These are light, extremely smooth reels.

And it may be closing, due to lack of funds and donations to keep it open. Heard that on the news just this week.

Confusion between right and left handed reels.
A right handed reel is a reel with the crank on the right side. It's on the left side for a left handed reel. Doesn't much matter which way you go, bass ain't tuna so you don't need to use your "strong arm" to crank. A lot of right handed people use left handed reels for the very reason you mentioned. Go with the way it feels most comfortable. I'm right handed and use right handed baitcasters. However, with certain techniques, like working a jerbait, I like to hold the rod in my right hand. So a left hand reel would probably be better for me for that technique.

How to Fish cattails
On the lake I fish most, cattails seem to be the prefered cover for big bass. My lake only has a few patches of cattails in and near the water. It's mostly water lily, pickerel weed and other stuff. But if there is a patch of cattails in the water that I can get a bait to, I have my best chance of pulling out a big bass. For some reason, cattails is high-end real estate for bass and the biggest ones seems to get these choice spots.

issues with suffix braid
Braid. : I think the stuff is only good for sewing up holes in lawn tarps. Gotta use backing. Gotta use a leader. Braid is the biggest PITA product on the fishing market.

Dropshotting with braid
I went out tonight and pier fished for 2 hours. Bass were holding right under the pier. Caught a few, nothing big. But did have a chance to give drop shotting a whirl with braid. I used Stren Super Braid, 10# test, 3# diameter. I did not use a leader. It seemed to me that the dark green Stren blended well with the water. Fish certained weren't shy. It's a light drop shot rig. I like the sensitivity. My 6'6" Fenwick HMX M/F rod has Pac Bay SS304 guides. Sensitivity is very good. Better than with Yo-Zuri. Not greatly so, but noticable. Now, that's the only thing I liked about it. I lost 4 rigs in under 2 hours. It seems braid finds every little nook and cranny on the pilings and cross members and digs right in. There was no getting it loose. The line is too limp for me. Several times I reeled up my bait to find that the line had looped around the plastic minnow. It's harder to get the hook to stick straight out with braid. I find the hook positions better with Yo-Zuri. After reeling in a few fish, the line does dig into itself on the spool making subsequent casts harder. Your can feel it popping off the spool. This does hinder accurancy. All in all, its going about like my experiences with braid for other applications. Sensitivity is the only thing I liked. Everything else I could do without. And to top it all off, there was an old guy on the pier tonight. He had 9 saltwater rods with him and a big aluminum cart with a cooler. He had a rod in just about every holder on the pier with line going out all over. And he talked my ear off. He just yammered and yammered. Nice fellow, but d**n.

Hot Secret Local Baits
The 4" frog from The Wright Bait Company, as well as the 5" Salty Slugs are fantastic baits. In fact, the 5" Salty Slug does better for me than the Senko.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid
Flipping in heavy brush does not require braid. Neither does fishing frogs in heavy weeds. I use Yo-Zuri Hybrid 15lb for both of these techniques. Yo-Zuri may not "cut" through weeds like braid, but it also doesn't tangle around things like braid does.
