  1. Thanks matt. I never threw spinnerbaits seriously until this challenge. It's fun to learn new things. I caught over a 14" fish today to complete it.
  2. Bigbass Although it seems fish hook themselves on those spinners it's still important to give them a pop when you feel the weight of the fish. I dont know what size you are using but panfish and perch like those too. You might be feeling them peck at it. Some tips for fighting/landing fish: keep steady pressure, they go low you pull high, if they're trying to jump point your rod low, leave about the length of your rod in line when landing the fish to give yourself some room, there's probably a million more
  3. I fish a 30 ft murky lake a lot. I generally fish "shallow" in 10-1 ft. of water. I can only dense grass out to 6 feet and after that there isn't much. I think 90% of the forage is going to be shallow. 10 feet is a 1/3 of the overall lake depth so who knows how shallow the fish think that is. Pay close attention to any vegetation and use this to build the underwater terrain. I try to fish everything slow in murky water, big pauses on my frogs and worms, suspending jerk baits, big colorado spinnerbaits. It's been pretty windy the past three evenings I've gone fishing and I've had the most success with frogs and worms in pads and on the edges of grass. It's slow fishing, usually catching only a few quality fish. Look for irregularities Fish slow, fish thoroughly. Try to make contact with the wood and let the bait fall to trigger a strike. (there's a little bit of lillies in the midddle somewhere)
  4. Working on my August Challenge, 14" bass on a spinnerbait. These are the top two so far. Have had some really windy days this week. The bass, though smaller, all have had full bellies. Do fish get active and stay active longer when it's windy? They seem to school up more. Made a sea anchor from my anchor + A LOT of weeds, worked ok until I wanted to drift upwind.
  5. Ok, this isn't poop falling out of a tree nor does it involve gettin nakey. This summer I was at Round Lake, my local lake, working the lillies , when a family on kayaks shows up 5 of them. They stare at me, I stare at them, they stare longer because they're kayakers. I sigh, hope I can show off a bit. First cast, huge blow up. Getting the fish out of the thick pads real quick, oooooo aaaaahhhhhh the excitement... and I hear a little tick and my reel is in my left hand, rod in the right. So there I am, taking turns between pulling the fish in with my rod, then trying to crank my reel all the while thinking I should just old man and the sea the SOB. They laughed, I cried (on the inside) about the one that got away. (I got the whole mess sorted out to see what was going to be my biggest bass ever, for that lake, laugh as it swam around 10 stems still pegged, unhooked itself and then slowly disappear into the murky gloom.)
  6. I'm slowly falling for McCoy braid
  7. Would you fish braid there during the day? What qualities of the braid are you interested in?
  8. I like a 3/O circle on whacky 5 and 6 inch stick baits. two cents
  9. Have you tried a suspending jerk bait?
  10. I don't think so. Why do you ask?
  11. What action rod are you fishing it on?
  12. Food for thought: http://bassresource.com/fishing/fishing_weeds.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/vegetation_fishing.html http://bassresource.com/fishing/weeds_bass.html mega neat
  13. If you can find Low Budget Hookers video's on the forum he has one where he goes over 4, I think it's 4, jig fishing techniques. They're supposed to look like a crayfish, most of the time, so keep that in mind when choosing a spot to fish them. edit: He replied in the poll below for quick access
  14. Was surprised, in a good way, this evening when I caught a few smallmouth. No trailer, with the rattle. They advertise them rattling at a lower frequency and thus traveling farther...who knows.
  15. I put a bargain bin storm curly tail bluegill on one of my spinnerbaits that the skirt was in rough shape. I caught one hungry little bass. Maybe a bigger profile to match all the commotion the blades make?
  16. Thank you. It just seems so odd that they would build a jig like that. I picked up a boo ya and their rattles are up and away and there is a barb as a chunk keeper.
  17. If your friend has the patience to fish slow try a senko, they still catch fish even when fished wrong. All the before mentioned cast and retrieve methods are great too. If the conditions and time of day are right try some top water. Poppers, jitterbug, buzz baits will be the easiest, maybe some walk the dog stuff too. They're fun and easy lures to work. Your friend can watch the action the whole time and they're so exciting when the bite is on. Good Luck!
  18. Thanks for the tip, I'll give both a try.
  19. Hi all this is my very first post on the forum and yes it is asking for help. Hopefully some of my limited experience will be of service to someone later. I just picked up a TT jig from the local tackle shop and noticed that their "removable" rattle seriously impedes putting any kind of pig, chunk, trailer...whatever and still leaving any hook available for hooking the fish. I really like the jig's feel and skirt. Has anyone else run into this with their jigs? I'd like to be able to fish it in all combinations (of course). 1/2 ounce, black and blue....the usual Thanks
