Deep fishing equals little success for me
Have you tried putting some marker buoys out? I like having something to cast at, it seems to help. What are your guys thoughts at catching fish really deep? I have never caught a fish from so deep that its swim bladder was messed up, how realistic is this? What depth does this happen at?

BPS brand plastics
I exchanged them today for store credit. No hassle to it at all. I smelled some of the other packages and I guess that's just how they all smell. I don't like it, I don't know if the fish can smell it. I don't have confidence and that's the biggest thing. My roommate has a few bags of BPS brand worms, curly tail, paddle tail...etc. They smell like a normal worm. Maybe the tubes are just funky. Thanks again.

LBH I am going to give *** tubes a try, don't you worry! However, I wasn't thinking ahead and "needed" a certain color.

BPS brand plastics
I went with the tender because I've been fishing a heavily pressured, clear water reservoir and my normal "bulkier" bates haven't been cutting it, i.e. 4" senkos instead of 5". Not a big change, but enough. I tried leaving one in a bag with some anise oil and it didn't last longer than a few seconds. So I'm thinking I might have gotten a bad batch? I'm going again this thursday and will open some other bags, give a smell, and report back. Thanks for all of the insight everyone.

BPS brand plastics
So that's how plastisol smells? Are you sure it doesn't offend fish? I guess I won't return them just yet :-/ My nose and I were just so shocked when I opened the bag. Not like catfish bait shocked...more like this is what made the teenage mutant ninja turtles.

BPS brand plastics
Picked up a pack of their tender tubes over the weekend and I am not pleased. My BPS had a very limited brand variety and colors so I had to go with BPS brand to get the right size/color. The skirts have many strands that aren't cut and they smell like toxic plastic chemicals. I took one out to see if I could disguise the smell with anise oil and even that couldn't cover it up. Has anyone else run into this with BPS brand plastics? Is that toxic plastic smell intended to be beneficial? I'm thinking I'll be going to the customer service desk on my next trip.

Wintertime Jig Fishing
Water is sub 60 degrees so I went fishing today with Catt's post in mind. I found what I thought to be nice spots, only to come up empty. Operator error it seems. Worse, I get back to the dock and one boat pulled out a 6.5 on a rattle trap...that has to be the opposite of slow fishing... Shallow grass is dying off. Deep grass is still green in places. I did right by throwin a jig...right?

Fishing from the Edge, Mike Iaconelli
I understand what your saying, but he is doing a lot for the sport. Those loud guys always get attention and kids love his enthusiasm....Bassmasters probably edge him on to be that way. In fact you will find in the book that they begged him to do his Breakdancing on stage when he won the classic i believe. He didnt even think they were serious until he went on stage and they brought the lights down and started jammin the music so, its not all his fault They most definitely did. I remember reading on here a while ago that someone broke down and Ike was the one who stopped. Once the camera's are on, the game begins. In media, they have to keep the real them and the characters they are on TV separate. If they took it personally every time someone called them names, or said they sucked, they wouldn't make it. I liked the part when Mike was KVDs non boater and they both had a shot at winning. Mike kept crowding KVD on the front deck until KVD had to yell at him to back off and scared Mike to the back of the boat. What a punk!!

Name 1 thing you learned
Thank you Glenn for running such a great site. Thank you to all the mods for answering my questions with great advice. Thank you to all members that have helped me become better at fishing. The latest thing I've read is Catt's piece about winter jig fishing. I will be trying to learn it tomorrow. Also a second shout out to LBH's message about getting out there and practicing what you read on here.

Fishing from the Edge, Mike Iaconelli
Finished it in two days this week. Quite the page turner. Wonderful insight as to what it takes to "make it" in tournament angling. I liked learning about the amount of time they actually have to put in to make it look easy to catch limits for a week. And of course, how crazy they all are.

Just for fun
Would have to assume that less people are throwing jigs than cranks or plastics. Front running is a good thing in fishing 8-) I found that table, if you compiled all that out of the table on their website...wow! A new level of respect for that information. So what's going on in Texas January through April?

Just for fun
That's nifty. Is that reflective of what works or what people fish with more? Do you think that people fishing in Texas fish with plastics 45% of the time, etc.? These aren't directed to Catt, just more food for thought. Yes, I do go to a liberal arts college :)

I relapsed !
Don't worry, you'll get back on track! Try to pay extra attention to the situations that make you want to chew and avoid the ones you can. Don't dwell on setbacks or obsess about chewing, consciously think about something else. Set realistic goals, like abstaining for a day, a week...etc. Use healthy tools available to you, like chewing sugarless gum, trying a patch, exercising and eating right. Enjoy the flavors you missed. Quitting forever is a big pill to swallow. One day and one cast at a time, right? Cory-ex a lot of unhealthy decisions

Fish Going Deep?
Largemouth bass can survive in temperatures that are just above freezing. On the other side of that, LMB start to die at around 97-98 degrees. They function the best between 55-85. For every drop of 18 degrees the metabolism of a bass is reduced 1/3 of it's previous rate. It takes them longer and longer to digest meals. I'm not a scientist, but this guy is, Keith A. Jones, PhD. He's the author of Knowing Bass: The Scientific Approach to Catching More Fish. Yes this is a plug for this book, because it's good. Dr. Jones was the Director of Fish Research at Berkley Fish Research Center. Yes, tank bass are definitely different than wild bass, but there's still a lot of good stuff in there. There aren't any plugs for any Berkley products either. As far as baits, tactics, and depths...I'm with the above posts.

Finesse Fishing, Why spinning gear?
I don't have a lot of very technique specific setups. My spinning rod picks up the slack.
