Merry Christmas, Do I have to send this rod back?
Well St. Nick knew exactly what I wanted, unfortunately his elves at the north pole (errr China) might have goofed. This is the first guide: and here is the second, for comparison: One of the nicest Christmas's I can remember, and that's strictly speaking about spending time with my family. I don't get to see my mom that much and am really glad I got to spend Christmas with her this year. Hope everyone had a chance to enjoy time with the one's you love today. Cory

Bait scents, softness, and such
I like salt impregnated baits. Fish need salt, they lose it and need to get more through the food they eat. It's in a lot of livewell additives to help those stressed fish stay healthy. Cory

Senko worms - best colors?
Fishgeek, Everyone certainly has their own special go to senko color and their own special opinion, here comes mine. 1. If you're looking for new colors to try, pay attention to the replies from people from your region or that you think might be fishing the same water clarity and forage for you area. You're from NH, pay attention to other NE'rs...the fish are going to be living in similar habitats. 2. It is really about the action or wiggle of this bait first, if the fish are interested...great. 2a. Kind of like girls at the bar. If they're into you, they're into you. It doesn't much matter if you have blue jeans or khakis on. A fresh pair of Tigers or chuck t originals. (I mean we all have our lucky shirt, you know?) It helps if you have your shirt on straight, but they've made up their mind based on something. And it's probably not your smoke w/black,blue, and gold flake shirt. 3. Again, assuming that you are just getting going with the senko. Learn how to fish the bait and gain confidence with it. Then buy the green and purple swirl with emerald and red flakes. 4. Don't limit yourself as an angler, learn other baits and techniques. 5. A lot of colors are better at catching fisherman than fish. It's awesome. 6. Familiarize yourself with the Search feature, the FAQs, and all the awesome articles. There are answers to questions you didn't know you had in there. Happy Holidays, Cory

What hook sharpener do you use?
I think magic marker, i.e. sharpy, on scuffed or sharpened hooks will protect against rust. Definitely not a 100% on this, something I'm going to try the next time it presents itself.

Choosing lures
Get yourself a heavy rod and some braid. My guess is that most of the ecosystem and plenty of bass will be in 5ft or less, and in the pads for most of the season. Weightless t-rig any softplastic. 4/0 or 5/0 ewg, with a hitchhiker cork screw or superglue. If the nose of the bait keeps catching on the pads that bait is going to be short lived and it's just a pain to keep fixing it. Some of my favorites for in the pads are 6" senkos, 7" or 10" curly tail worms, swimming frogs, tubes. I don't think it matters a whole lot. Favorite colors, junebug w/ chart legs/tail, black w/blue, white, green pumpkin. Make a lot of casts to any irregularities, points, pockets, drop offs. The limited visibility means you're going to have to hit them right in the face or give them plenty of time to come check it out. On the edges I like jerk baits and spinnerbaits as search baits. Buzzbaits and jitterbugs get a nod too. Man I love fishing in that crap, can't wait until the ice melts!

Hooks For Swimming Frogs
Owner twist lock 4/0 or 5/0. They're not cheap but they're the bees knees. If you don't go that route, add a corkscrew to your favorite hook. Gives you a lot of extra life out of your bait when fishing in the heavy.

Lunkerville TV
Mike, Definitely my favorite fishing show, thank you for something real! Favorite would have to be Pat X and the technicolor brag rag, I think you learned a lot on that day and I know I picked up some great advice by watching! Cory

Bronze eye
Bassaddict, You're right, a sale doesn't always mean a bad product. The truth will come out as to why Shimano is doing the rebate (got me to buy a curado), and as to why every major retailer is have a sale on the bronze eyes I don't know. Hollow bodied frogs seem to be a crap shoot. I got very short life out of the two bronze eyes I bought in the middle of summer. Also one was definitely softer than the other. I'll be sure to give the swamp donkey a shot next season. Cory
