Cost of getting a outboard engine looked at
I have a manual for when I replaced the water pump and I am kind of handy around cars but I'm still learning about outboards.

Cost of getting a outboard engine looked at
That gives me a lot of good feedback. I was going to call around but I wanted to know what a good around about charge would be so I knew if some was over pricing me or if it was normal. No I don't have a tach on my motor, but maybe that might be the easiest and in the long run I might just need to upgrade the engine to a slightly newer, 80's-90's model and more HP since it is rated up to 75HP and only has 55HP on it right now. thanks for all the feedback guys.

Cost of getting a outboard engine looked at
I have a older boat and the engine starters up pretty about on the 3 try every time so it is pretty solid. The previous owner (brought the boat 3 years ago) and he said he just had the engine overhauled. I don't think the engine is running to the top performance because I only go 21 by myself (10-11 loaded with 1-3 people) and I have been told it should go about 30 and maybe 20-25 with it loaded. Also even when I have it in neutral it has enough exhaust coming out that it moves the boat. I can't just sit still. I think the carbs need some cleaning but I'm not sure if the can test the prop (well prop shaft) to see about torque or anything else to be able to see if it is at full power or only running at 70% or lower or what percent it is at. I live in Nashville, TN but I ever had to take a boat in, my first running boat. If any has any prices ranges in your area or in the Nashville that would be great. I'm not sure if they charge you to look at, like car places, or just charge you when they start to actually work on it.

Trailer bunk brackets??
I think Bass Pro carries certain sizes and styles so I don't know if you can find it their and if you don't live near one I'm not sure about shipping price.

My new project.
I think half the fun is fixing and making the boat just like how you want it with repairs or add ons.

does anyone know this man
If he emailed you through your personal email, you can check the trash bin because I know gmail keeps emails for a while before 100% deleting them.

I love this forum
This is by far the best fishing (especially Bass) website. No other site can even come close.

Bilge Pump
Yeah it should work when you turn it on rather it is in water or not. If their isn't water you can hear it sucking like when you suck water out of a empty glass. Check and make sure the connections are good and tight and nothing loose, then check a fuse, then trace back. It could be the bilge and those don't cost much. Mine didn't come with a bilge and I put in one, just in case, even thou my boat is complete sealed and doesn't get a drop from leaks, but a big wave coming over the front. I also added the float switch so my bilge comes on with my manual switch or if the float switch.

So my wife tells me...
I live just 4 miles from Opry Mills and Bass Pro. You can give me $1200 and I'll tell you all about it, haha. Opryland Hotel is really nice. Opry Mills is more tourist area, but you will love Bass Pro. The down side is Bass Pro is on the complete oppisit side of the mall then the Opry. And if she wont let you spend it all at Bass Pro then say that's ok, because their is a tool store. How long are you in town for?

My new boat
You throw on a trolling motor that you can take on and off and a battery and you can get around a pretty good amount area. I use my motor some but most of the day it is with the trolling motor and yours is a lot lighter then mine so your battery should last longer and cover my area.

Boat Repair = Forever
I think, not 100% sure, but I think they work on boats first come first serve type of way. Not little projects first and bigger projects latter. So even thou you might have simple things to fix, their could be 4-6 boats in front of yours. I know their is a boat shop near my house and during the off season the parking lot is pretty empty but when boating season starts you will see anywhere from 3-10 boats sitting in the parking lot waiting to get worked on. It's just that time of the season. Just like a traffic jam on the interstate, to much of demand.

Google Maps Boat Ramps
If I have to add people by emailing them, you can put it here or send me a personal message if you don't want others to see it. It would be great if I could add the moderators here so we could spread the word fast and get this to be a big active map that can help people in the future and the sport of fishing.

Google Maps Boat Ramps
try to add this map by clicking "Save to My Maps" and sign into your google account (free account if you don't have one). Then, on my screen atleast, it shows the ones I have done and then click edit and that's when you can add other post.

Google Maps Boat Ramps
I have it open for anyone to edit the map, but this is my first public map so I'm still learning. I might have to add people by emailing them, but one person can email another person and that person hopefully can email others and it can grow quickly hopefully.

Google Maps Boat Ramps
I thought this might help a lot of people that travel to other lakes and to find boat ramps and also get a little info on the ramp (price if any, condition of ramp, and their is a dock). I just did 2 lakes that is in my area but I thought I would make the map open so others can add ramps from their area. I figured it would help people plan their trips better and help out beginners that might not know where boat ramps are. I'm not sure in anyone else has done anything like this. I've shared a map with you called Boat Ramps: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid= 114551775841055112909.00046a771f22c0cf6ea57

PVC
I actually did. How my boat is designed, the front and back fishing spots the seat drop in place and when they aren't used they going their certain spot at the back of the boat. I made one with light 0.5 inch and that was way to small. I ended up going with about 2inch (or 3inch) round PVC pipe. Once the cover is on and you pull it tight you need the thicker PVC to keep it up and not break or sag bad. My cover is trailerable so it needed to be strong enough for any wind. But what I did is get a PVC pipe long enough to go from the front fishing spot to the back. At the ends I put a 90 degree angle and that goes over the fishing post which will keep the PVC from moving. I also cut the PVC right in the middle and I put a adapter to connect the two PVC side. That way when I'm at the lake I can pull the PVC pipe apart and the lengths are short enough that I can put it in the bed of my truck. I only have a 4 foot bed. Then I just close the bed cover and you have a place to store them while you are at the lake. I have a 16 foot fishing boot, so my PVC pipe maybe about 8-9 ft long (guessing). I had fishing post (attached picture) of the type of post my fishing seat go into, so if you don't have anything like this you can just think of different ways. But my PVC pipe cover pole takes about 10-15 seconds to put in place. I also have four rod holders that swivel and I aim them up so when the cover does on it helps make the cover tighter and no place near the side for water to sit or start pulling the cover down. I don't have a picture of the setup I have but I plan on going to the lake Monday (weather permitting) and I can take a pic if you like to give you a idea. PVC is very cheap so I would look at the 2inch or so width especially the longer you have to make the pipe because it will want to sag in the middle. You could get a smaller piece and have a piece connect in the middle to keep it up, but that is more parts to fall apart and put together while the thicker you can just use less and make it easier and quicker.

Get boat off trailer?
Moloch if he did that, I thought about that, but if he uses a certain type of paint then he would have to let the trailer sit over night to dry and cure and I don't think a lot of people would want to keep their boat just sitting at the dock over night. But I say maybe talk to a couple of the people with house boats and see if you can work out something that you could unload the boat in the water and drive it over to their house boat and just tie it to the back for one night. Some people use their house boat and others just seem to sit iin the dock all the time.

I don't think my boat's engine is running at top notch
I did a compression test before and it was good, but maybe I do need to get a carb kit. It starts up just about every time on the first to second crank, only had battery problems when I did have trouble. Just trying to get that little bit of get up and go wen I have others in the boat.

Get boat off trailer?
my boat is only 16ft long but being built in 1972 it was built solid and not very light but maybe a couple of buddies could pick the front up.
