  1. I had looked at the River2Sea a few times, and never "pulled the trigger". I will have to pick up a pack or two this spring and give them a shot. Thanks for the input.
  2. Can you elaborate please? What exactly makes it junk?
  3. I just ordered 5 of the optimum line thru 5 inch swimbaits from Cabelas...at 3.88 per. Hopefully, I will have some good success with them. Figured for that price, couldn't go wrong. Anyone have any experience with lures?
  4. No, I don't think so. You can try maybe slowing down your retrieve, but I think it is somewhat hit, or miss with these baits. I buy a couple packs, and usually 1 out of 3 doesn't swim right. I have had a little luck bending the hook eye (like tuning a crankbait), but it has only worked on maybe 2 outta 5 lures??? maybe.
  5. This is what I love about this site....folks are always willing to help another in need. Way to go guys!. I have no idea about electricity, but I do hope you are able to get it figured out with the members help. Good luck.
  6. And which ones are you guys using? Brands, sizes, colors???? deep, JFrancho, others? So far, my swimbait arsenal consists of hollow body swimbaits, lake fork live magic shad, and the storm swimshads. I am not yet equipped to throw 2-5 ounce swimbaits, but have a real fascination with them. I am not sure this is not a case of the lure catching the fisherman, but they are very intriguing to me. Thanks for all the tips and ideas guys.
  7. I too really like the yozuri hybrid...I have the 10 lb spooled on several rods. very good line, especially for the price. I have never fished with the invisx so I can not comment on it.
  8. Guys, I didn't want this to end up a contest between what is right, who fishes what, etc. I am simply trying to expand my arsenal, learn from what other's have already learned, and engage in some enlighting discussion so that I ...and others...can learn from the many fine fishermen and women on this board. We all know there are many ways to "skin a cat". Let's keep things moving forward, please. Any others have swimbait secrets, rigging tips, potions, or any other ideas/suggestions to share?
  9. How ironic is that Manning is having a HUGE season...after being discarded by the colts...who had a terrible set of circumstances affect their season...and the colts are 11-5???? I thought if Manning was healthy, Denver could be pretty good this season. I had no idea, none, that the Colts would be 11-5. Haven't seen the AFC bracket....When would the Broncos and Colts meet?
  10. Holy crap, there is some major dollars in that tackle box. Sweet!
  11. Gander mountain brand senko...watermelon/purple flake. I don't think they taste all that great, but the bass seem to really lilke them
  12. Good luck with your first car. I had a friend who had a 98 ford explorer that he loved. He used it to tow his boat, and he had no problems with the vehicle at all. I am pretty sure his was the V6. He regrets to this day getting rid of that vehicle. I certainly hope you will have the same good luck my friend did.
  13. Good points Snook. I am not ready to make the committment to the heavier type swimbaits....living in Ohio a 5-6 lb. largemouth is a really, really good bass, and I have caught a few in that 4-5 lb category. However, as I get older, I am looking forward to a move to a warmer climate...where the chances to land a 10 lb plus fish are much greater.
  14. I have never fished with the Rick Clunn rods, and at 50 bucks it would be hard to go wrong. I have handled a few of the crankbait rods, and they are extremely heavy. Noticeably heavy. Did I mention that they felt really heavy in hand??? Like I said, I have never fished with one, and they may fish like a dream.
  15. I am mainly throwing stuff in the under 1 1/2 ounce category. I am interested in trying some the other types of swimbaits....hudds, Rago, etc, but will wait till I have a boat for that . The thought of hanging up and losing a 25 dollar swimbait already makes me nauseous...and I don't even own any...yet.
  16. my best producing "walk the dog" type has been a heddon swayback spook. Not sure of the color...has a clear bottom with an olive type color on top. Walks very easily. Next would be a lucky craft sammy...white with purple top. also very easy to walk.
  17. Amen. Merry Christmas to all!
  18. I got some roboworm EZ shad swimbaits, some northstar custom jigs, have some seibert outdoors jigs on the way, got some lake fork live magic shads, a couple strike king baby king shads, a couple reel covers, some gene larew hardhead jigs, some biffle bug lures, some Xcite lures stand up jig heads to use with the Yum mightee worms I got, and a GREAT, GREAT time with my Mom, my Mom-in-law, both my sisters, my nieces and nephews, and of course my wife and two kids. Lost my Dad and Dad-in-law a few years ago, so the holidays do bring a few melancholy moments of remembrance, but I do so much enjoy spending time with the family! How terrific would it be if we could have this "Christmas spirit" the other 364 days of the year???
  19. .RM. has done service work for me as well with fantastic results. I would recommend taking his advice as well.
  20. We have Christmas eve dinner at my Mom's house every year...over the past ten years or so fixing a big meal has just become too much for her and her kitchen is really too small anyway. We have overcome this by having pizza from a local shop that my sister worked at years ago. It is the entire families favorite. Not traditional maybe, but we certainly enjoy the evening, the time spent together, and the food.
  21. Thanks for the post A-Jay. I have had success this last year fishing the white live magic shad simply rigged on a 1/4 ounce roundball jighead with the hook exposed. I have tried many different sizes/colors/rigging options and for some unknown reason...this particular setup just catches them...at least on my home lake. I fish them much the same way as A-Jay mentions above. I try to fish them so they are just above or barely bouncing of the rip rap and/rocks. Not much grass on my home lake, so can't comment on that. With the exposed hook, you will lose some baits if you fish from the bank as I do, but the rig is fairly inexpensive. I have tried fishing the live magic shad at Roadwarrior's suggestion on a swarming hornet, but I didn't purchase any till pretty late in the year and have not given it a fair chance to evaluate yet. Thanks again to all who posted.
