The swimbait rod to end all swimbait rods.
$650! My monthly mortgage is just short of a grand. How does one go about starting a finance company? That's a good looking rod, it looks camo, probably not an accident hence the 'combat'.

My summer dog days tow vehicle project (90% done)
nice. How much do you drop on filling those dual tanks?

The swimbait rod to end all swimbait rods.
neat. Maybe you've covered this already, if so I missed it. Maybe you want to keep it to yourself, if so that's cool too. What is it that you do? You're pulling a new boat with a hummer and you drop an insane amount of cash on fishing stuff. Silver spoons? executive for Smith,Smith,& Smith?

Choosing a rod
I'm a st croix guy. That said I've never used either one. I have heard that the straight xml series is a better value than the xmlti.

Daiwa Light and Tough rods
just an idea to confuse your situation even more. Today I picked up an avid 6'9 ml/xf that is a dropshot specific rod. Ironically, I looked at the L&T rod you mentioned and, I didn't think they were even dollar for dollar and wasn't at all impressed with how short it was. I did like the L&T pitching model though. Also, cabelas will price match any major competitors point for anything they carry. I think they have that avid on the site. You'd just have to talk to someone directly when you order so they can adjust the price. I just posted a beef about their customer service people about 15 minutes ago and now I'm pitching for them.........

dilemma
Good news and bad news. I just saved a lot of money on my car insurance by switching to geiko. Seriously......these avids are sweet! I picked them up today at bass pro. Sadly, I won't be able to fish them for a few days because I just came down with either the flu or ebola today. I feel like I've been shot out of a cannon. Bad news. Back in april I take a fenwick rod with a broken tip into cabelas to return with all the documents, they ask if I'd like store credit or my money back. I told them that I plan on getting two different rods at that location anyways so just give me the store credit. I then applied that towards the purchase of the triumphs. Today I go in to return the triumphs, again with all the receipts and they tell me that the price of the fenwick rod has to be refunded in store credit? I tried to explain that it wasn't a gift card and that I just wanted my money back. For some reason they could'nt see that I had paid for the fenwick to begin with. They even went so far as to return the full refund price to my amex card and then sell me the gift card for the amount of the fenwick rod! I was really upset, and by upset I mean that I thought about choking out the customer service person. The premiers are on sale at some dicks stores. I picked one up this summer for $50.

dilemma
Hey redneck thanks for your reply. I guess my titles just suck or I have stupid questions but I don't seem to garner a lot of response on this site. I'm getting the avids today.

dilemma
A have a situation that I'm hoping y'all can offer your opinion on. I'm getting two new spinning rods - Avids or premiers. I need help with a value vs. cost situation. I've got some flexible money but need to cover the cost over $140. I've checked with dicks and they're out of what I want, I don't have a gander mt. close and cabelas does'nt have thiers on sale, bass pro is my only close option. Roughly based on what I'll have to spend after the $140 the two avids will cost me $110, two premiers $50. Should I stretch for the avids? Is two Avids for $110 dollars better than two premiers for $50 in overall value? Seems like it would basically be buy one get one free vs. buy one at 1/3 the price get one free. Sorry for the long post. You guys are awesome.

Drop shot request
animatedknots.com it's a good resource on how to tie the palomer and any other knot. Bookmark it. Drop shot specific weights (long, slender, cylindrical) are a huge step over the basscasting weights in avoiding snags. Plus, they work really well when t-rigging smaller tubes also.

Tournament giveaway reel
Okuma Aveon AE20. It sounds like this is a winner after all? Good deal. Hey RW, everybody makes mistakes. I didn't know either.

Tournament giveaway reel
Bummer. So, I give a winner of a bass fishing tournament a trout fishing reel? I guess you can't look a gift horse in the mouth. Anybody want these? I've got two and need stuff that I can use as a prize for a BASS fishing tournament or cash to buy said items. Both NIB, one hasn't even been opened yet.

Tournament giveaway reel
hey everybody, Long story short: I've gotten a couple of okuma reels direct from the company as giveaways for a tournament down the road. It's an Okuma aveon spinning reel, line test range is from 4-8# and it has a ratio of 5.0:1. 11 bearing. What rod do you think I should pair these up with and are they beefy enough to handle bass fishing? They seem light to me, but I'm used to using a 6-10# spinning reel. I was thinking a 6' or 6'-6" m to ml. Something in the $50-$100 range would be best. http://www.okuma.com.au/home/okuma/product_details.asp?name=aveon

St. Croix Triumph
I have two and still use one. It's a 6'6 M/F spinning. I like it. I stopped using the other because I replaced it with an avid. Can't really argue that switch.

Suffix Siege or Elite?
I've used both, and islandbass summed it up pretty well. If you can find it get the DNA or promix line by sufix (same stuff different name), it's very very good stuff.

The new world record caught?
Sorry if you'all have covered this already, I don't fish for smallmouth and am never on this forum. Saw this article and thought some of you might like to read it. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/fishing/news/story?id=2998257

avids not on sale at cabelas?
anybody know why cabelas is the only place in the universe that doesn't have the avid series on sale?
-
where do you buy bulk spools?
fellas, I'm planning to buy my line in bulk spools. I'd be looking for yo-zuri hybrid ultra soft in 6 or 8 lb., another spool of the same in 12 lb., and a spool of sufix seige in 15 lb. Where can I get it cheap? Does anybody have a site or store they use, or an inside guy somewhere?

tons of stuff on sale
BPS just recently put an insane amount of stuff on sale on the webpage. If you have one near you, print out the page for the items you like and they'll adjust the price at the customer service desk. Just a heads up.

Another reel poll
So it's safe to conclude two things: The stradic is the projected winner, and the regal isn't $100.

Bass Tracker questions
I lived on a lake for most of my teenage years and all through college, and supplemented my income by teaching people how to drive boats safely. I had a tracker like the one you're looking at early on and used to wakeboard and tube behind it, they're good boats but that's not really what they're intended for. You can do it, but you'll run into problems with it getting on plane. If the motor is undersized (90 hp at minimum, nothing less) it adds a lot of wear and makes it hard to get up on ski's or other standing watersports, especially if your kids would be learning behind that boat. It's easy to get discouraged about actually being able to do watersports. When in reality it's really the weak motor that makes it hard, not physical ability to get up. Additionally, trackers can chine walk sometimes in turns when you have some people aboard and a skier/tuber behind it, and you'll have to back off on the throttle which makes it no fun for the person in the water. You'll need a pylon that runs over the outboard. If you use one of the tie downs on the boat the weight of the person in the water will cause the boat to list to that side and tilt hard in turns. Adversly, a fish-and-ski isn't really much of a fishing boat either. I have a 20' crown line for skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, etc. and a fishing boat for fishing. I guess what I'm saying is that a used fiberglass fishing boat like a nitro may suit your needs for a family/fishing boat better than the tracker. They're substantial in the water and safer for family use. PM me if you have other questions, I'll help out with specifics. I'm no expert, but I do have a lot of experience/mistakes that I can relay.

Another reel poll
After thinking about it I guess it makes sense to have people vote even if they don't own either one. I just don't want people voting based on brand loyalty alone. If you have a valid point by all means vote. Sorry for the confusion.

Another reel poll
Both are on sale, both are good from what I understand. I've never owned either. The Diawa is on sale for less, but most people on here are shimano crazy......I'd like to spend my money on the best option regardless of price difference. Thanks fellas.

how good is this rod and reel
I've got one. It's o.k. I'm looking to replace it with one of the stradics or something similar and give it to a friend. Adversly, People can catch fish with a cane pole though. basically, I think of it like this. If you buy a ford escort, you get a ford escort. It may be a good car compared to a bicycle, but it's still a ford escort. I buy my stuff on a budget like you and buy good stuff on sale. If I don't have the money at the time, I don't buy what I can afford then. I'll usually try to save up for what I really want. I've found that you get what you pay for when it comes to fishing equipment. Save your money little by little and keep your eye on the web sites for the stores that are close to where you live. Not department stores so much, but stores that deal in legitimate equipment. Cabelas has a top-notch return policy that compliments the manu. warranties to protect your investment. If you need to feed the baitmonkey, do it with lures ocassionally so that you build your bank of those.
