  1. I'm just here to post Andy McKee links, but I'm late to the party. This fellas music is more to my liking though. Good stuff!
  2. Bob Kavanaugh posted a topic in Tacklemaking
So, I bought gobs and gobs of finesse worms by the pound from a tackle place, and they were just sitting in boxes sorted by type and color. Now I have them separated into ziploc baggies, but they are in need of some worm oil to protect them. Just straight mineral oil ok? Or, is there a secret tacklemakers recipe out there? I saw the BR recommendation of garlic Pam, but I'm concerned about it turning rancid in the heat of the summer. I know mineral oil does not turn rancid like vegetable oils, which is why it's used on foodsafe surfaces like butcher blocks and such. So, let's hear it! Thanks
  3. Google, looking for smallmouth bass information...
  4. never seen an Avid for only $100 where did you see these and are they still only 100bucks?? Well, you quoted me. And it says "used on the swap and sell" There's one on there right now for $100 even. :-?
  5. 4 to 9 in my own boat. Depends on the circumstances, and season. If I'm just hopping down the road for a couple of hours it'll carry less than I would for a 2 hour+ road trip, where I generally will bring too many to be safe. Even in my little 17 foot tracker I can comfortably fish with 8 rods on deck up front, but I usually limit it to 6, and I'll throw the rest in the rod locker, or if I'm alone, on the rear deck rod tie downs.
  6. Also, it's really easy to pick up an '07 Avid for 100 bucks or so (used on the swap and sell), so it doesn't make much sense to get a premier for the same price. A little patience could pay off huge. And yes, there IS that much of a difference between the two.
  7. The only complaint about Premier rods I've heard from others is muddy talking about his guide inserts falling out. I've noticed that the rods are usually a little softer than their power rating, at least compared to All-Star and BPS offerings. I have the 6'6" Med fast premier, and it's so soft I use it as my dropshot rod. Not much backbone.
  8. Hopefully the grease doesn't gunk up or otherwise get heavy and jam your brakes so they won't move. They are so light, it wouldn't take much for them to stick in position. Stuck on or off, neither is good.
  9. No no no, let's back up. ;D Say you could spool your reel 220 yards on a cast. add your abec 7 bearings now. How would you hit 250 when the spool only holds 220? ;D ;D ;D
  10. 63-63 OT 73-68 kansas is my guess for the OT period...
  11. What is the lure weight rating on your rod? Sounds too stiff for your lure if it's going left. Like was previously mentioned, it's not your gear ratio, since the spool is disengaged during the cast. A minor adjustment may be needed on your reel, but my bet is that your rod is the major problem.
  12. Trading what? If you mean here or any other forum, it's all about trust and communication. You build up a reputation, and you use that as collateral. I recently traded reels with a forum member who lives across the country. Went off without a hitch.
  13. I got stuck with 10 gallons of crappy gas that I had to siphon from my (4 stroke) boat. I'm still running it through my mower and weedeater.
  14. I really like the rod, and I even dig the color. I just wonder sometimes, why Loomis isn't very forthcoming with the particulars, like they are with other rods.
  15. So, where does this rod stand in the hierarchy of Loomis blanks? I have the SHR822, but nowhere on their site does it state what kind of rod it is? Seems to be priced between GL3 and IMX. Is it just overpriced GL3?
  16. Do you have access to the underside of the bench? This will limit your options if you don't
  17. I use a grp 24 battery with my 36lb on my canoe, and have spent many many long days on the water, covering several miles, and have never approached draining the battery fully. I even jumped a boat at the dock after a trip. Kinda funny seeing a canoe jump a boat! ;D My bass boat has a grp 27 battery running the 42lb, and again, never drained it. One time, when my charger broke, I took it out for 4 trips before I could get it charged. Again, no problems. You will be fine with whatever you choose.
  18. I have a Tracker, and a Grumman aluminum canoe. My personal preference is to let the natural oxidation remain. Grumman says it's a natural protective barrier against further, more serious damage. Plus, polishing can be hard work, and I'm not a big fan of that. Having said that, I have seen highly polished aluminum boats, and boy are they sharp looking.
  19. But are they ice fishing gloves? :-?
  20. Bob don't fish with no Fin-whack rods > It's ugly stick or nuthin', ain't you never seen no commercials? ;D
  21. I'll toss in a pocket fisherman, and some banjo minnows.
  22. I tend to fish the same way each time out, no matter the conditions. I use finesse plastics 95% of the time, and don't give other techniques a fair shake.
