  1. Depending on the season as always I tend to move shallow as the fish that are shallow will move tight to any cover available. By tight I mean that your presentation needs to rub the bark on the way down. If it is a jig I will fish one that has a rattle, a worm that has a rattle, a SB with large colorado blades to displace as much water as possible and to slow way down. Soak the bait if possible.
  2. Ya'll are getting over my head with some of this. I adheer to the rule that a bass is a bass. If you understand the four seasons of the year and how the bass relates to each you are way ahead of the game when it comes to locating. I will take time on the water over a career in fish behavior and water ecology anytime. All of my experience comes from the school of hard knocks from 30+ years of making the mistakes that have led to last place finishes and zero weights. I still try to learn from each day on the water. I firmly believe that you always learn more on the tough days than the days that you load the boat
  3. I have drawn a few women over the years and we have an understanding rule. When it comes time we each just look the other way. Has never been a problem at all.
  4. Yes I did. The main lake was terrible. It pretty much did in my grass fishing out in the lake. I stayed out of it as much as possible. The runs from place to place were rough and wet. Caught lots of small bass. Largest for my trip was 2.88 and I was glad to get it.
  5. The best and certainly not the easiest is to strip it.
  6. Wallmart charger will be fine. One battery should be plenty. My deep cycle batteries that I run my TM with weight 64lbs. each. A 9 ft. boat will probably be fine with a standard deep cycle battery.
  7. I am constantly pulling weeds off my lure. It seems that it is every cast. That's part of it. Don't let it get to you. And as Catt said fish vertical as much as you can. It really helps.
  8. I feel it is not the bait but the location. When I hit a spot I may throw 3-5 different lures quickly as I try to locate them and then move on to my next spot. The fish will tell you what you need to be throwing. When you get bit then slow down and see if you can find the sweet spot or depth on each area. If it happens to be a point I will work my way in and around it being sure to present the lure at different angles. Angles are critical, but that's another subject.
  9. Welcome
  10. Teria; I admire you for what you are trying to do. Keep on setting the hook as often as you like. That is how you learn what different bites feel like. Good luck, and remember you already know more than a lot on this site. How do I know; by the questions you ask.
  11. My skeeter will run about 75 to and from the lake. On the water about 58. That's with 3 gallons of gas and only one battery in it. It has a 150 on it by the way.
  12. Key word being work. At least it is their money.
  13. I feel for you catt. I grew up on Rayburn and now I'm stuck in Houston. Wife won't move up there so I guess I will continue to make the drive. Good luck with yours. Congratulations on the home.
  14. First, welcome to the forum. You may have a problem with the carburetors since this motor has not been run in a long while. Be sure you dispose of any gasoline that might have been left in the tank. Also check and clean or replace the fuel line so you will not pump any bad fuel into the carbs. Good luck.
  15. Check the post I made under: help buying my first bass boat It is up above your thread. It should help you. Good luck
  16. Yes it would and probably have to freshen(Rehone and rering) about every 2 hours or 10 passes. If that long.
  17. I have posted this before so here goes. If it is a used boat: Make sure the title to boat and motor are clear. Do not under any circumstances purchase an underpowered boat. check the rating plate and buy one that has a motor on it that matches the HP rating or close to it. Do not buy it unless you have an on the water run Keep it in the water a while to make sure there are no leaks Check all electronics Check all switches and pumps(Bilge, Livewell, etc). Walk the floor checking for weak spots Look the transom over good at all points for water to enter(Drain, livewell pumping openings, around the bolt holes drilled to mount the motor) Any dark spots around these will be the first signs of rot. Grab the bottom of the lowerunit and lift up hard on it to see if the motor gives. If you are able to lift the motor up any at all walk away. The transom is weak and to repair it correctly will run about $4,000.00. If it is a fiberglas boat do not inspect it during a rain Check the steering to make sure it is easy to turn and has no play Get under the boat and look for repaired areas Run a compression check on motor. All cylinders should be within a few pounds of each other. If one cylinder checks a lot lower than the rest walk away. I would advise a leakdown test on the cylinders also. To repair a V-6 Mercury the cost in Houston runs $600.00 a hole. Examine the trailer checking the wiring, axles, hubs, and any corner that was originally welded Request all service records and list of any other work done Pay someone that is a licensed mechanic or inspector to go with you or be allowed to take the boat to a shop of your choice and pay them to do an inspection of the boat for the $15,000.00 you are willing to spend you can buy a dadgum nice rig Good hunting and good luck
  18. I retired several years ago from the insurance industry due to medical conditions. I worked years on the weekends when I was young learning how to machine, hone, and assemble engines. I have had a shop many years working on mercury engines. I had certified mechanics working in my shop as a side line for years. My love is in the machine work. My friend that I worked for retired a few years ago and I bought his machining equipment. I don't do a lot anymore, right now I have five engines in the shop in different stages of rebuild. Just something to help me keep busy.
  19. I am sure that 48mph is about right for that 90. There goes that bubble. When you have built as many as I have you just know when someone is blowing smoke.
  20. The title to this thread is so outdated.
  21. My bird dog loves me and hates my wife. He has bitten her three times this year(Drawing blood), but he keeps on loving me. She said if he bites her one more time he is gone(I will go with him). I told her to leave him alone but she won't. Must be trying to tell me something.
  22. No. Welcome to the forum!
  23. 7" ringworm in Camo.
  24. The main thing I want from a buzzbait is the squeak. Other than that I fish black, white, and chartruse/white. The squeak is the most important thing to me.
