  1. If the docks are close to a point or down the side of a point they are even better. the 8' water is a key around the docks.
  2. Ya'll just wait. When it warms a little those little green fish will be crawling all over each other trying to get shallow. It's going to be downright amazing. A 20 pound sack won't be close to a winning bag. Get ready.
  3. Wesley, don't read too much into my statement. All my bass club buddies think I'm behind the bridge to. That's not the case at all. I seldom fish behind the bridge. I'm fishing drains, humps, and ridges out in the lake on the sides of Carrice. You can catch a lot of fish behind the bridge at times, just not enough quality. I'm out in the lake 99% of the time. Strong S.E. wind might put me back there, but that's the only reason I'll be there. Carrice runs a ways out toward the river. That's the area you will find me. Jack
  4. Wacky style with a 1/32 tungsten slip sinker on them. Off the edge of a grass bed works for me.
  5. Those BPs Yellow waterproof bags work for me. The medium size will hold 4-6 Plano boxes depending on the size you use. $21.58 each
  6. Zoom Trick Worm 1/0 straight shank hook Watermellon/red Junebug Camo Pumpkin PB&J
  7. I do. Trim the skirt just below the bend in the hook Trim the weed guard at an angle parallel with the hook point. i don't trim mop jigs though.
  8. There are no fish in the Carrice Creek area. Keep on moving up or down lake. It's a total waste of time. Be there in three weeks for a "T" and will let you know if they move back in. Otherwise it's a dead area, not worth fishing...LOL
  9. It's just the way it is now. Everyone fights it. No one owns a special spot. First one there has the right. It's unfortunate that there are people out there that pull stunts like that. I hate to see it to. Fact is, if you are living or dying over one spot you're in a heep of trouble to begin with. You better have several backup plans or you're usually a non issue anyway Jack
  10. I have the exact trim set up on my boat. If you will give me a little time for the weather to break(May be tommorrow) I will look at mine and let you know where each wire should go. it's raining and sleeting here and the boat is covered. supposed to be better Wednesday. If you can wait I will try to get you some help. I am running a skeeter, i have the factory wiring diagram under one of the rear deck lids on my boat. not sure how far off it is with the nitro, but we should be able to trace a few things down.
  11. Watch your catch ratio and size increase. Just don't give up on it if you go out and struggle the first few times you try it. You will have slow days, but it is a learning process. Many days it is a grind and you may only get 5-7 bites. They should be an increase over what some of the others are doing though. Stick with it and when you pop that 18-24 pound five fish limit you will know it has been worth the effort. Good luck, let us know how you do. Jack
  12. Reguardless if it is the bottom composition, water temperature, are just the cover provided, they certainly hold fish this time of year. I don't pass up an area when i come across it. They will define a drop to. Certainly a great chance that the bottom falls away when they abruptly quit growing.
  13. Tin, i didn't take it that way at all. I knew what you were referring to. Some would rather argue and start you know what instead of trying to learn. Some areas are set up for fishing the banks. It's the knowledge knowing when to and when to back off that can make the difference in a successful day.
  14. It saved my bacon. If you work for a company and they don't offer it ask them to check on it. GSTD(Group Short Term Disability) is not an expensive product if the company has more than a few employees. Several ways to structure it to keep the rates manageable.
  15. Man, i hope my wife stays away from this thread.
  16. If you watched those guys fishing those lipless baits yesterday you should have learned enough to double your catch ratios. They wern't fishing the banks even though they were fishing them shallow. The retrieves were varied, and a lot was done with the rod instead of the reel handle. If you were really paying attention you got a great lesson in early season cranking, fish location, and bass behavior in cold weather.
  17. I just want to go on the record thanking her for all she has done and congratulate her on her weekend at the classic. I'm sure she would have liked to finish higher, but, just take a gander at the list that she finished ahead of. Congratulations Pam, now go kick some bass in the opens. Best of luck, Jack
  18. You wish...LOL... Actually, I think that is one reason he is so consistent. The area he grew up in is extremely hard to fish due to the weather, water clarity, and the changing scenarios he faced growing up. Made him work harder, smarter, and made a great fisherman out of him. Not to mention his lifestyle and clean record. That's a recipe for success that's hard to beat. Jack
  19. He's at the top of his game, as always, and just makes better decisions all the way around. Hardest worker on the circuit. Until the rest decide to make the commitment to be the best, they can just continue to cry and bi**h. It will not change a thing. Talent and commitment are hard to overcome. KVD has both. One of the best to ever crawl into a boat.
  20. Looks like we're headed for another round of snow and sleet Tuesday and Wednesday. Very unusual for this area. East Texas just thawed from a 6" snow 10 days ago and here we go again. Come on Spring...
  21. Catt, I feel for you. Rayburn was tought Saturday to. Water temp ,at the Caney Creek ramp- was 48.2 at daylight. We ran to Veach and caught nothing until a little after 9:00am. My non boater had four and I had one. they were all caught on traps and spinner baits in 3-6' of water. I caught my other fish a little later. We lost several hours when I hit a stump and blew the hub. Had to get a tow in, but the boat is ok. My three weighed a little over 7 and my partners four weighed about the same. My fish came in the back of a pocket we found that had 54.8 water temp. most of nonboaters fish caught earlier on a white spinnerbait with copper colored blades. All my fish bit a trap. The gold one with the black back and the orange belly. We have 2-4" of snow forcasted for Tuesday and Wednesday so it should cause them to hold where the are or possibly back out a little. Warm up starts on thursday so maybe this weekend will be a little better. I thought they would bite better, but they didn't. It was tough on everyone. 10 lbs. won it and big bass was 3.78. i think we finished five and six for the tournament. There were 30 fishing. If there was a limit caught I don't remember it, maybe one. Beautiful day to be on the water though. Jack
  22. I respool after a long day on the water. Just not going to trust my line after it has been run through all the stuff we have in the water on our lakes around here. So, yes, why take a chance, get it off the reels.
  23. I'm not a big fan of flouro, but decided to give it a try. any suggestions on it? I sprayed it down with line conditioner, but not at all sure if I will like it. Going to use it with a small crankbait to begin with. How is the knot strength compared to say big Game. Should i be wary of strong hook sets? Thanks, Jack
  24. I start with a 2 foot and adjust from there. Can't remember anything longer than 3 feet though. Jack
  25. Personally i don't drink at all. Have no problem with the ones that do. I did my share while younger. Do you drink while out on the water? Do you allow anyone on board to drink? I have no problem with someone in my boat drinking a beer or two while we are out unless it is not allowed. Back in 1978 a buddy gave me a beer while we were talking side to side out on the water. I ended up pouring half of it out after we split up. That's the last beer I touched while on the water. My wife loves a beer or two or three while we are out. I just don't care to indulge. Jack
