  1. Hillsborough River Saturday The wife and I decided to fish close and tried the Hills river. 3 pm to dark air temp 80 - water temp 63 5 small guys, up to 2 lbs on a purple/brown tiki stick
  2. IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When are you going to teach it to talk like a fisherman?

George, I just read the FWC freshwater fishing guidelines and the FL Statutes and don't find anything that make that rig illegal. It could be considered a trot line maybe, but then it would be illegal only on the weekend in most places.
  4. I don't run more than 45 min from the ramp and I only do that to go after big fish that I'm "sure" are there. It has been my experience that I have caught more fish within 10 min of the ramp than anywhere else. Study your new waters on goolge earth and find some areas similar to what you are used to nearer to the launch. You want to spend as much time with a bait in the water as you can.

After reading and watching you guys I decided to give it a try. It is a 7' casting light built on a mudhole custom blank, cork grips and a wooden reel seat. its not finished yet but I'm working on it
  6. Me, the hardcore tournament fisherman!
  7. That's our Avid. Humble and a great photographer...
  8. KU_basser, That is a gar. One of seven different types. We have three of them here in Fl. The Aligator Gar, state record, 123 lbs. The Longnose Gar, sr 41 lbs and that particular fellow in the picture is a Florida Gar, sr 9.44 lbs. If you bass fish a lot in Fl, which I do, you catch a lot of them, which I do. They have a particularly bad attitude and a lot of teeth to go with it. They ruin many of my favorite jerk baits and just last weekend I got two frogs back to the boat without legs...
  9. Way to go dad!
  10. caught 2 in a row this size
  11. I fish 25+ tourneys last year mostly local but these "local" tourneys draw 60-80 boats with payouts up to 5K. I don't know exactly how many days I was on the water last year but it was over 150. I'm keeping track of it this year. Since my whole family loves to fish, unless I am working or at a kid ballgame, I'm on the water.
  12. Ventilation is not a problem. Big shop fan and since it is a chilly 78 degrees most of the winter, the garage door will be open. but thanks for the tip. And you and Tin got us started in this by the way.
  13. Or maybe I should have said you're contagious. After reading, and reading and reading about how to make plastic baits...Josh and I have decided to start the "Family Secret Bait Co". We have received our first molds and are moving into our Huge luxury manufacturing facility (the end of the bench in the garage) to begin the "secret" R & D. Pics of the prototypes should be available soon. PS- Tin, I hold you personally responsible for this completely unnecessary expenditure of time and money.. ;D
  14. Two ramps - North End is City Ramp or Lakefront Park. Nice ramp but usually very busy. South End is Southport Ramp. usually less busy unless there is a tourney going out of there. Should have no problems with the "lower unit" but you will get your intake clogged if you are not careful. warmer and I fished it Saturday without much success. Mostly small fish. Two weeks is a long way off, you never know what the weather will do.

  23. OK, not really but warmer and I did fish in a team tourney today on Toho out of southport. Left the ramp in a fog so thick that I could cast my frog out of site.. A few dinks early with the first keeper at 8. Then is was dink, dink, dink, dink, and our second keeper at 10. Finally the fog lifts about 1130 and we make a 40 min run to the big K to find some decent fish. We get to Kissimmee and are greated with a 20mph wind out of the south and 3' rollers. Dink, miss, short strike, pickerel, dink, short strike. 2 fish at 4lbs was not worth taking the beating to get back to weigh on time so with released them and kept fishing. Finally we get back to Toho and decide to check a few more spots. As we are flying by Makinson Island, there are 12 guys standing on the dock waving at us. Turns out they are college students that are camping on the island and they have run out of food and have a dead battery on the titantic that got them to the island. So we put one in warmers boat, 7 are in the titantic in tow behind us, four stay with their camping gear and off we go towards Lakefront park. We finally get them there at 530 and head back towards southport and get back to the ramp at 6. All in all a good, albeit, long day on the water.... PS, a half hour later I run in the leading edge of the cold front with hail, sideways rain and falling temps. There are 12 guys that are real happy that warmer and I just could not stop fishing...
  24. First of all, if she is not the subject of the photo, my wife took it. She is the photographer.
