In several thousand days on Florida lakes I have only had a problem with one gator. But he was about 14 feet long.

How Much Do You Spend On Average A Year On Fishing ?
Since Nicole and Taylor both love fishing, we spend somewhere around 15K per year if you include our family vacations which are always on a lake somewhere in the South East US.

Fisheating Creek Hearing - Fwc
I got this in an email from FWC. I wanted to make sure you guys down south saw it. (Having trouble viewing this email? View it as a Web page.) For immediate release: July 18, 2013 Contact: Diane Hirth, (850) 410-5291 Photos available on FWC’s Flickr site: Go to http://flic.kr/s/aHsjGUXpnw Help plan the future of Fisheating Creek Wildlife Management Area A 10-year plan for the Fisheating Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will be presented Aug. 1, a Thursday, at a public hearing in Glades County. People are invited to attend the 7 p.m. public hearing at the Glades County Commission Chambers, 500 Avenue J in Moore Haven. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) staff will present the draft land management plan for FWC-managed portions of the Fisheating Creek WMA, and people are encouraged to comment and ask questions. Fisheating Creek WMA is a place full of history and wildlife, as well as outdoor recreation opportunities. Its Creek Indian name, Thlothlopopka-hatchee, means “the creek where fish are eaten.” The first known settlements occurred between 1,000 and 500 B.C., when early inhabitants known as the Belle Glade people built mounds and subsisted by netting fish and harvesting turtles, snakes and alligators. Today, Fisheating Creek WMA stretches for 40 miles in Glades County along the course of the only free-flowing tributary to Lake Okeechobee. Framed by bald cypress swamps and hardwood hammocks, the tea-colored blackwater creek shows off wild Florida and is critical habitat for native species such as panther, black bear and swallowtail kite. People come to Fisheating Creek WMA to paddle canoes or kayaks, watch wildlife, camp, hunt and fish. This is a place where hunters have a good chance of harvesting a prized Osceola turkey. “Fisheating Creek WMA was purchased in order to ensure the preservation of fish and wildlife resources, other natural and cultural resources, and for fish and wildlife-based public outdoor recreation,” said Rebecca Shelton, FWC land conservation biologist. “This draft plan will specify how we intend to do that.” All lands purchased with public funds must have a management plan that ensures the property will be managed in a manner that is consistent with the intended purposes of the purchase. Hunting and fishing regulations are not included in this plan or meeting; those are addressed through a separate public process. To obtain a copy of the draft land management prospectus for Fisheating Creek WMA, call Diana Kilgore at 850-487-7063 or David Alden at 850-487-9588, or email Diana.Kilgore@myfwc.com. Beginner Pole
Corey, first welcome to the forums. Walmart caries a Berkley Lightning Shock spinning rod for about $50. I would recommend a 7' MH (medium heavy). Add to that a $30 - 50 spinning reel. Spool it with 30lb braid. ( I prefer Power Pro) Read through the articles section and pay particular attention to: Tying a palomar knot Texas Rigging soft plastics. Fishing in dark stained water, always use a dark color. Black with Blue flakes is always a good choice for dark water. Feel free to send me a PM if you have more questions.

Have You Ever Been Confronted While Fishing By...
Luckily I live in Polk County Fl. The Largest county in Florida. It has has the most lakes, over 150. We drive biggest trucks and have bright red necks. We mind our own business and don't tell you how to lead your life. If we have many of those people around, they are at least smart enough to keep their mouth shut.

Why Is Fishing So Addicting?
It's the secret coating of crack dust that is sprinkled over the line and lures at the factory. You don't realize it but it's getting into your bloodstream through your fingers.

How Do You Eat Your Bass?
Bingo. Publix has tilapia fillets ready to go. No fuss, No mess. I don't even hunt much anymore because I don't want to clean anything. I'm getting really lazy in my "mature" days.

Pulling A Boat... 4X4 Or 4X2
I have 4 trucks. Two are mine, one for the wife and one for the daughter. They are all 4X4 and pull a boat sometimes. I have used the 4X4 at a ramp maybe twice over the last 100 trips. But without the 4X4 I would have been in trouble both times. Another added benefit of the 4X4 is the truck is a little heavier and usually handles pulling a trailer a little better.

Open Letter To Boat Fisherman
What Rhino and K mac said. I was hoping this thread would get closed before I blasted the OP. I help everyone using the lake. I give info, baits, and cold bottled water to shore bound people and "tin" fishermen all the time. I have even taken people I met at the ramp out on the water. I would bet you will not find 1% of the boaters here would do the things you have now accused us all of doing. As many of the members here can attest, If you need info on central Florida, I give tournament winning info to anyone who asks. You lumped me into a group of boat owners who either don't know any better or are just plain A holes.
