Fishing a 10" worm?
No. I fish a 4 inch worm the same as I would a 12 inch worm. (don't be fooled by the size either, dinks will hit it just the same.It depends on what they want that particular day)

Lake Fork Ring Fry
Good bait.I haven't used mine a whole lot,the almighty senko has taken a front seat.I should get them back out and play. You can make a nasty little rig by using a small glass worm rattle in each end and wacky rigging it. 8-)

You want to see a deceiving photo?
Right.Thats what I was saying too...It's a well taken photo.

Smoke colors
Smoke purple flake isn't too bad of a color for me, it's not too far off junebug. It is still translucent though and there are better choices for dirtier water.

The Trap
I got to add one to your list uncle leo... In current situations and heavy wind.

What NOT to do?
Let me add to that: Also if the fish don't want it the way your retrieving/working it. The one holding the wand creates the magic. The lure is a tool and is only as productive as the person using it. Touching back to the original post about always using your go-to or favorite baits. I know a few people that not only want to use the same thing every time but they work it the exact same way on every single cast every outing. Caught bass a few times using this bait this certain way,in this particular type of area before so this must be how your supposed to use it,right? Big mistake. I know its hard to keep focus when things go south and I am as guilty as any on occasion of doing this too.

The Trap
4. Try a different size. Don't know what depth your fishing but there is a huge difference between say a 3/4 or a 1/4 oz. bait.Weight of the bait can dictate your overall speed and/or depth. The fish may also be keyed in on certain sized bait.

You want to see a deceiving photo?
Maybe a little decieving but I can still tell it's about that weight class even if you didn't tell us. If you look at the thickness of the jaw and tail and how broad the back is. That fish is proportioned well and the picture is taken properly. The ones that are harder to tell are the long lanky ones and the very short stubby footballs. The fish in my avatar is 10.5 lbs but when you got someone who can't work a camera....

What the heck is he using?
You Can also use a bell sinker.Slide it in ring first the as you stick your hook in the top try to manipulate the hook point through the ring. The hook holds the weight in place.

Zoom Super HOG
You got 2 real good colors. Not a bad bait. I pitch with it a lot in heavy cover and use it on a c-rig. It has more of a subdued action than the regular hog.I associate it with a beaver. The body and action is very similar. I like to dip the green pumkin ones in a little chart dye and yes even the tips of the black and blue ones too when I fish dirty water. Just like the brush you can remove the little "arms" on the side altogether for a different or slimmer profile or do it if punching grass. You can also detach the arms on the rear or the front of them for a little more action. I detach them on the front and they wiggle a little bit but the bait will hang up in grass and brush if you do that. I spilt the tail the whole way with scissors so that of moves a little more. I also slit the flappers(I call them flower pedals) on the side sometimes.

Have you ever wanted to fish so bad that......

kanji soft bodied frog .....
If the body is soft anything like the Basirisky then that single hook should work great if not then I might have second thoughts about it too.

A Change to Big Bait Tactics???
No, I am not a big time swimbaiter and am just getting into big baits myself.Speaking of crappy baits. There is a reason why to stay away from these things when your talking bigger baits. Artificial lures are made and sold in certain sizes, normally very small compared to what bass actually feed on, because they are just that, artificial. In other words the larger the bait the harder it becomes to disguise it as something real or actual food. The flaws in the angler presentation and lure action become more easily detectable. The bigger the bait the more need there is for it to look and act natural.Throw in water clarity and it becomes more difficult to conceal flaws.Crankbaits for instance have a very unnatural action. A bass can easily eat a crank much larger than what we generally throw but from what I understand it would be very hard to make it look real enough to strike.Cranks are more reaction baits and the fish just sees something scurrying by and action erratic and they react on it.This is why we can catch them on some ridiculously large plastics as long as they are presented properly. Something as large as a big swimbait better look good in the water and it needs to move or act very naturally to get the best results. Its not a question of wheter a fish can eat a lure. These fish don't get big by running around chasing little glass minnows, tiny 2 inch shad, and insects all day.I get a kick out of people that think that anything larger than a crappie sized bait is just too big. A 4 inch+ jerkbait or topwater,no way man! A 12 inch worm? Your crazy! A 5 inch swimbait(Mattlures) ,you must be after a 15lber! :

Lipless Cranks And Braid
Yep works great. A hard snap of the wrist the second you feel it contact the grass. If anything floro helps with this as well but braid is tops.
-
Finesse worm
1/0 offset,1/0 EWG,1/0 straight shank ,whichever you prefer, they all fit nice.

Carolina short cut rigs

Stage of fish in Florida right now?
Yep these fish don't know if they are going up or down or left or right or anything in between and one thing is for sure they aren't biting worth a @#$%. I seen a lot of spawners in January but that didn't last long. Whats worse is I have seen a lot of fry kills in some of my ponds recently. I haven't seen a single tilapia on a bed yet this year which is very strange. They normally cover every square inch of the bankline with their beds by now.I know they are very intollerant of the cold and am still finding a lot of dead ones floating. This also tells me that the water is unusually cold this year. We have averaged 10-15 degrees below average temps every single day since new years. Over the next 2 weeks or so I think a huge % of the bass are going to come up all at once. However we can't even find them on so called staging areas right now or in shallow water for a flippin bite either. Go fishing while its warm out and go slow and low with plastics.Downsize your baits and dead stick a lot in deeper water and/or heavy cover. The cranking, topwater, and spinnerbait bite is completely dead right now. edit: One thing I noticed recently is that there have been very few if any big fish or reports in the outings section this year from the south. This tells ya something.Normally in this time of year it is hawg heaven and people post like crazy. I think everyone is having a little trouble down here right now.

Best way to use JJ's magic
No, I haven't used JJ's, but have used dyes. One thing I prefer to do is keep a few Q-tips in my bag and use them to apply the dye to my baits. I used to dip them but its kind of a pain to get certain appendages and such in the bottle plus all the accidents I've had with drips and spills.

Fishing a Cold Front?
Slow rolling big spinnerbait blades on the bottom. You will always lack in numbers but it seems the big girls have a weakness for this in cold water. This is my #1 hawg catcher in winter(however I realize I'm in Florida though) Other than whats already been mentioned I'd try a lightweight shakey head with a finessse worm or miniature craw fished painfully slow or a light splitshot rig with a 4 inch senko, trickworm, baby fluke, baby craw,or 4 inch ribbon tail. The light weight forces you to fish it slow.
